Reactivity:
Reactive dogs become overly aroused by common stimuli. The dog become so preoccupied with whatever is triggering the emotion that they can be difficult to control.

Reactivity is a common issue in dogs, especially rescue dogs, where the critical socialisation period may have been missed or, for whatever other reason, the dog is struggling with triggers.

Reactivity can be worked on and managed with the right help and education.

Dog interactions. Something that is super important, but also very misunderstood.

The best way for your dog to interact with others is as neutral as possible. Try to avoid on leash greetings as this can be intimidating for some dogs. If your dog is not comfortable, advocate for your dog!

💦 Soak the kibble! It makes it easier to digest and also increases your dogs water intake.

🐟 Fish oil is described as an anti-inflammatory supplement. It’s beneficial for your dog’s skin and coat, as well as their joints.

🥕 🥦 Vegetables are a great source of fibre for our 4 legged friends. Raw carrot are great for teeth cleaning as well as helping the little ones while they are teething. Some vegetables should be given in moderation, since they can be hard to digest for some dogs.

There are multiple ways we can activate our dogs, as mentioned above. One of the most efficient activations (and something that most dogs really enjoy!) is nose work.

Dogs have a super developed olfactory system, as they possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses. Humans have about 6 million receptors. Dogs create pictures from all the different smells they gather, which makes them incredible at nose work. It’s a tiring activity: 20 minutes of nose work equals about a 45 min run!

What you feed your horse will effect your horse’s temperament and performance. It’s therefore important to make sure all your horse’s nutritional needs are met.

Horses require six main classes of nutrients to survive. They include water, fats, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals.
Horses have a unique digestive tract quite different from ours. Their long digestive system requires a high-fibre diet that is consumed in small amounts over a longer time period. This is why it’s important to feed them the right food at the right time.

For some people, puppy socialisation means taking your puppy to dog parks or greeting every dog and human you come across on your daily walks. As important as this is, puppy socialisation is much more than just playing with other dogs.

Your puppy will make positive or negative associations out of everything that goes on around them. This is where you as a dog owner can work with your puppy on making everything a positive experience and work on what is scary or uncomfortable for your puppy. Knowing how to properly introduce your puppy to other dogs, big or small, is important, as some dogs can be reactive towards puppies.
