Dogs and Cats of Antigua Created for animal lovers to assist in improving the welfare of dogs and cats on our island through rescue and rehoming and veterinary assistance

This page is a platform for like minded people who are interested in the welfare of animals in Antigua. We assist animals in distress through rescue, rehoming and veterinary assistance. We are continuing to lobby for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws and an end to dog fighting. We are a voice for the animals and we want our voice to influence the cultural mindset that sees animals as a commodity rather than a member of the family.

💔She was found dead about 100 yards from the Sanctuary this afternoon. Sadly we are surrounded by demons masquerading as neighbors. Most neighbors would have contact ed us and got the dog back to us, if they had seen an old girl half blind shuffling around, not killed her. She was no threat to anyone or livestock. Until laws are enforced and the government gets on our side, we are powerless to protect these animals. RIP Silver.

Thank you so much Julia and David for picking up this girl Rossa and getting her to the vets. Rossa has been roaming the Ganble’s area and dropping litter after litter. We just picked up her last surviving pup Rowan who is being boarded. Thanks to David and Julia who have been monitoring her and giving her food and accelerated nexgard treatment to help with the mange, her life is getting better by the minute. Tomorrow she will be spayed, so she wont be having litters any more. We just need to get her safely installed somewhere. She is a sweet gentle girl, can anyone help? It would be a temporary measure. Our new pens will be completed in another 2 weeks.

This guy was hit by a car on Putter’s Main Road. Big thank you to a couple of men who were helping me. Thankfully Danielle arrived. She is fearless and has mad skills so we were able to load him into my car. I wish I could say we were able to help him but we currently have 178 dogs in Antigua alone. Overwhelmed is an understatement. We dont currently have the room or resources to handle this kind of injury, sadly he was PTS.

Thanks Mary Beth Lane for picking up the dog from XPZ parking lot so we can get her spayed.

I’ve been looking after this male cat after it got hit by a car and suffered a broken pelvis. He’s a lit better now although with a slight limp. He’s a sweet boy, very affectionate (intact - hoping to get him fixed). I think he belongs to someone but they never returned to claim him. I’m hoping to either find his owner or rehome him as I have 2 other cats and it’s a bit much in my small apartment.
For reference, I live in Scott’s Hill.

Biggles got his wheels! This is our paraplegic Biggles, who left us for Rhode Island a few weeks ago—and now he’s our Christmas miracle. Biggles is ‘walking’ again! It’s called spinal walking, which can happen in some cases after a spinal injury. We’re so excited for Biggles! 🥹🎄

Thanks Gemma for picking up this poor guy: “He ate like a horse but wouldn’t drink. Gave him a snap test. He has severe elihcia, very mild heartworm, severe mange, and probably scabies. All treatable unless he also has kidney disease for which he is being tested tomorrow morning. Let’s hope. If he has a chance, he desperately needs a foster. I cannot take in anymore and Fiona thinks he needs one on one care, not a shelter. Can anyone help?”

SANCTUARY UPDATE: The land has been cleared and scalping added—next up, flattening it for the new pens! Building a safe and comfortable sanctuary on the island comes with its challenges—materials are costly, and upkeep is never-ending. Thanks to your generous support, we’ve been able to expand with new pens featuring cement floors to keep the dogs dry and tools like long hoses to make cleaning easier. With more dogs arriving than ever, this progress means so much. Thank you for making it possible!

Meet Boots and Jeanie!! These two cats are both currently being fostered in Brooklyn, NY and are looking for their furever home or homes! They’re super friendly and cuddly but also playful!

They are bonded but can either be adopted together or separately. Boots (male) is 9 months and Jeanie (female) is a little over a year! They are both fixed and UTD on shots. Please send us a DM or apply on our site if interested!

🐾 10 Reasons to Give on 🐾

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome. It all begins with the basics—feeding a hungry dog, providing vaccinations and parasite prevention, spaying to prevent future strays and transporting animals to their forever homes. All of these steps lead to life-changing transformations.

Your support makes it all possible. No matter the amount, every dollar helps save lives.
