Cat lovers needed!

Are you a cat person? Are you worried about the wellbeeing of stray cats? Are you feeding Stray cats?

We are building a team with people like you! Our goal: collect data about wild cat populations on the island and making sure populations are not expanding by performing a monthly TNR (C)-campaing!

TNR (C) means Trap-Neuter-Release and Care. We localize the wild population, trap them in a humane way, than we bring them to the clinic where we safely neuter and treat them after which they will be released back where they came from.

Despite the flooding, our team ( Mirte Kruijt and Jochem Lastdrager ) managed to spay/neuter 103 animals in 3 days! Thanks to the amazing and team of Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation who moved mountains (and liters of water!) to catch and release as many animals as possible!

Do you know what TNR means?

Its the only method proven to control stray cat populations in a humane way!

TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Release.

Cats (and dogs) are terratial animals: once they own a terratorium they make sure no other cats/dogs wil stay in their area. So if you make sure that cat/dog can't make any offspring, the polulation in that area will not grow. If it is not steralised, it will grow exponential. If you remove that animal from its terratium, another cat or dog will take its place!

Therefore: TNR is the best methode to create a nice area for yourself and the cat/dogs!

And we can help you with that!

Vets and Jochem Lastdrager volunteering Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation for 4 days to spay/neuter as many animals as possible.

The foundation organizes multiple spay & neuter campaigns per year for stray cats and for cats of owners without the financial means to arrange it theirselves.

Cats are very very good hunters!
Not only do they hunt for food, they also just hunt for fun!

So even if you feed your cat well, if its an outdoor cat, it wil still go outdoors and kill our beloved wildlife such as birds, lizzards and sometimes even turlte hatchlings!

Stray are forming a big risc to the wildlife on Bonaire. Thats why we have to make sure their numbers are contained!

Last week vets and Jochem Lastdrager joined the team of Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation to help them spay and neuter as many animals in 4 days!

Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation provides a safe haven for motherless kittens, nursing cats, injured cats and cats with special needs. They also go out of their way to organise spay/neuter campaings, like these, for stray cats and for cats of owners without the financial means to arrange it theirselves.

Here the of the kittenrescue is picking up animals to be spayed!

That is, if you take just a small litter of four: 36 offspring withing 16 months!

Up to 4,948 kittens can be born from

one unspayed female cat

Het is zo simpel, maar dat is de basis waarde van onze kliniek. En dit maken we waar met een goed uitgeruste kliniek waarbij we de tijd nemen voor onze patienten (30minuten consulten)

Gestart als stichting kliniek met als doel de zorg voor de dieren op het eiland te verbeteren en dit financieel sluitend te maken. De commerciele tak van de kliniek draagt de financiele zorg voor de stichting-tak, waardoor de hulp op het eiland zelf-sustainable is!

Dit project slaat aan en dus kunnen we wel wat extra hulp gebruiken en bereiden ons team in Bonaire uit!

De kliniek: BONAIRE / FLAMINGO ISLAND VETERINARY CENTER
• Veel operaties (spay/neuter)
• Divers aanbod aan patiënten (van Parvo puppy’s, bijttrauma’s, HBC tot flamingo’s, maar ook normale vaccinatie consulten )
• Gasanesthesie, röntgen, echo en dentale unit.
• Mogelijkheid tot participatie in begeleiding van de lokale asielen en stichtingen

Wat zoeken wij:
• Gemotiveerde dierenarts die openstaat voor een uitdaging
• Liefst minstens 1 jaar ervaring als dierenarts, maar een goede motivatie is het belangrijkste
• Iemand die “outside the box” kan denken
• Participatie in de spoeddiensten (1 op 4)
• Die zich minstens een jaar op Bonaire wil vestigen, langer is een pre
• Ervaring in het begeleiden van teams is een pre!

Wat bieden wij:
• Uitdagende baan, voor 32-40 uur/week
• Ondersteuning met emigratie, huisvesting en vervoer
• Achterwacht van ervaren collega’s altijd aanwezig
• Secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden bespreekbaar, zoals PADI open water course, kitesurfles of windsurf cursus!

There are several diseases that we can vaccinate against, including rabies. We don’t see rabies on the island yet but prevention is better than solution! That’s why we have a $10,- discount now on the rabies vaccination. If you would like to make an appointment please give us a call at 717 3338.

For my dearest clients:

It is with pain in my heart that I am saying goodbye to Flamingo Island Veterinary Center... what started as a month of volunteer work has turned into a 2.5 year long adventure!
While things were sometimes difficult in the original clinic in Nikiboko, I am very proud that, together with my colleagues, I have been able to build a beautiful veterinary clinic on Julio A. Abraham Boulevard. From puppy consultations, home visits, operations to emergency consultations, I have been able to do it all with great passion and pleasure. And I especially enjoyed all the funny, nice and sweet animals on this beautiful island and the equally nice and committed owners!
Now it's time for me to see what next adventure will come my way! Tur kos bon!

WARNING!

Over the last few days we have seen an increase in emergency cases where dogs have eaten POISON!

We also just received a message that POISON HAS BEEN FOUND open on the streets around Tera Kòrá!

If your dog or cat has eaten this (or something unknown and is now acting strange) do not wait and go to a vet immediately!

Bon tardi,

Unfortunately there are a lot of ticks on Bonaire. These small animals bite into the skin and engorge themselves with blood. They love to settle themselves in the warm bodyparts of your animal, for example inside the ears and between the toes. They are not only annoying for your animal but they can cause serious diseases as well.
So it is very important to pretect your beloved pet against these parasites.

The end of the year is almost here! 🍾

It’s maybe a fun time for us, but not for all the animals..
Here we will share some tips so hopefully your pet will have less stress during the fireworks:
- keep your animals inside the house
- put some music on
- close curtains
- put the lights on
- give your dog something to do, like chew on a bone or play with toys
- create hiding places
- stay at home so you will be able to comfort your pet

Hopefully these tips are useful and you will have a nice and peaceful New Year’s Eve! 🌟

One of them was donated by Stichting DierenLot and the other one was donated by Family Woustra. 🫶
With these cages we can give our surgery patients a even better recovery!
