Meet Charlie McCormick, a purebred Boston Terrier just looking for someone who wants to hold him all day and tell him that he’s the most wonderful boy in the whole world. Is that so much to ask?!
We can’t emphasize enough how much this little guy wants to be close to his people–one hundred percent Velcro dog. He thrives on love and attention. He gets a little emotional if you’re busy and he can’t be close—a lot of whiney, complain-y, grunty sounds are involved to let you know he’s just not happy. He also really wants a home where he can share a bed at night with one of his people. Meals and treats are his second favorite, and probably the only thing that will pull him away from his favorite humans.
Charlie is a flight risk and is not a good fit for a busy household where family members or neighborhood kids are in and out and not mindful of where the dog is. Charlie is always at the door, or will sprint from rooms away, ready to dash out if the opportunity presents itself. Despite the minor challenges, Charlie is a wonderful companion and is looking for the perfect family that can meet all of his needs and help him become more confident. You will be rewarded with so much love, adoration and loyalty from the sweetest little Boston boy.
The Basics
Age: 4 yrs
Weight: 22 lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Microchipped: Yes
Vaccines Up-to-Date: Yes
On Heartworm Prevention: Yes
House-Trained: Mostly, but Charlie came to BTRET not neutered and his impulse to mark indoors has been very strong—he particularly likes to mark the resident dog’s and his foster sister’s food dishes and bedding. He may do best in a home without other dogs to help diminish this impulse. He was very recently neutered, so in time that should help as well. It is recommended to have a healthy supply of washable belly bands on hand!
Crate-Trained: No, gets very anxious in a crate. Can be confined to a room if needed.
Leash Skills: While Charlie does enjoy time outside he hasn’t been particularly excited about going for walks. He is frightened easily and the noises of the busy streets near his foster home are just too much for him. He may learn to enjoy walks in a quiet setting with lots of positive reinforcement.
Likes/Dislikes
Toys: He’s not much into toys and playing with people, but does enjoy supervised time outside where he can get some sun and a good back scratch in the grass.
Other Animals: He loves other dogs of all sizes, but sometimes gets too excited and can be a bit much for smaller dogs. He responds really well to verbal correction and will usually stop any negative behavior. He’s ok with cats, but kind of afraid of them and barks if he feels threatened. He’d probably be ok with any other animals as well.
People/Kids: Loves EVERYONE!! Again, he just wants to be close. ALWAYS.
Car Rides: He gets nervous, but does ok if he can sit on someone’s lap.
Separation: He’s not a fan, but is ok left alone for a few hours.
