Update:

The dog has not been seen over the weekend. We have received about 200.00 in donations towards his vetting. Thank you to those who donated . We still need around $500.00.

WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURES

Ladies and gentlemen we need your help to save this dog's life!!

He/she is in God's Lake Narrows and it looks like it has an embedded collar. Since this is a fly in only community , Denise at Flights for Hope has graciously offered to take care of the cost for the flight.

A live trap, which Jaz Madenlina has lent Peggy Yuill , is being sent up tomorrow to assist in catching the dog. The live trap is heavy and needs to be flown up as well tomorrow. Peggy will give us the amount it costs to fly it up and we will have to cover that cost as well.

Once the dog arrives, in Winnipeg, it will be rushed to vets at Grant Park Animal Hospital who will take care of all the medical issues it may have going on. The dog will need vaccinations, medications and to be spay/neutered.

We do have a foster in place so now all we need is for the dog to walk into the live trap, move into a kennel and be flown down to Winnipeg without a hiccup . Right ? It is never that easy.

This is a complicated rescue for many reasons but we do have a number of people, vets, groups and rescuers all working together.

We need to raise between $700.00 - $1000.00 for the vetting . ALL donations need to be sent to [email protected] and put embedded collar dog in the message line.

We have a plan to get this ellusive animal accustomed to eating some pretty amazing food in one location, over the weekend in the hopes that we catch it on Tuesday to fly out .

The flights in and out of remote communities are sometimes a crap shoot. So we have it arranged for this to take place in Tuesday.

Please help us get this dog to safety and a better life.

Please welcome Selma to the family!

Selma actually came into care on October 4th and has been given time to settle in, gain some weight and get accustomed to a new routine and way of life. She is about a year old, lab cross retriever mix.

Her family was strughling to care for her so we were contacted to see if we could help. When she first came in Selma was quite a bundle of pent up energy. We were told that she had been abused yet she has shown no signs or behavior that suggest that she has been abused. Regardless Selma is with us now, will be assessed and found an amazing home. Selma is working on leash training , is kennel trained and house trained.

She has since settled down ,she will have her first vet visit on 29 th at Grant Park Animal Hospital for a wellness exam , first vaccines and to make a date for her to be spayed.

We would appreciate any donations towards this appointment . Donations can be sent directly to the clinic by sending an etransfer to [email protected].

Thank you in advance for any help you can give this sweet dog.

So Murphy has almost healed from his neuter and has been on meds to help him settle in a kennel.

The vet has decided that we can do the slow kill method to deal with his heartworm infestation. This method is easier on the dog but takes 9 months to accomplish. He will be given Heartgard for 9 months and then we will do another Heartworm test. If the test is negative then he will be done treatments. If it is positive then we need to reassess the plan.

Once Murphy is off all medications we will be able to assess him better to figure out what type of a family he will need.

As of now he would be best to be on a rural property where he can run around and then lounge around.

If you or someone you know may be interested in Murphy please pm this page.

Tulip came into care last November, 2023 ,with 16 other animals and was adopted in January 2024.

A month or so ago the family reached out to say that their family dynamics had changed and that they were no longer able to keep Tulip. To say that this was a let down for Tulip is a huge understatement.

Tulip is now up for adoption ! She needed time for us to get to know her and make sure that she is medically sound . She is up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and spayed.

She loves kids, is a very active dog , medium in size, huge in personality and a lovely pet. She has been around farm animals but does need constant supervision or her heeler traits will kick in to overdrive. She tends to bark quite a bit when she is playing and getting excited , but with some work she does better. Experience with working breed dogs would be best for Miss Tulip.

If you are interested in adding a sweet heeler cross to your family give us a call or send us a pm.

Miss Pepper is ready for the next part of her life's journey!

Pepper was also found at the gas station that Lily was found at ,but a few weeks apart. Pepper was being attacked by large dogs so some of the elders saved her and gave her to us to help her find a home. To celebrate saving her they fed her pepperoni pizza , which came up halfway on her transport to us. Poor Aiesha.

She is about a year old, up to date on shots, plays well with smaller dogs but gets in the face of larger dogs and doesn't seem to heed thier warnings . She is a work in progress with manners. She would do well in an active home so she can burn off some of her energy.

She is kennel trained, house trained and has been on a leash for a while now. She is still learning not to pull while on leash ,but that shouldn't take much longer to correct .

She is up to date on vaccinations, dewormed and spayed. If you are looking to add a medium sized dog to your family this girl may be just what you are looking for as a sidekick.

Please fill out an adoption form or pm this page if you are interested in Pepper as an addition to your home.

This sweet dog is looking for a family to call her own!

She is looking for a family with children who are good with dogs ( over 5 years of age ), a mom and dad who will continue teaching her new things and are patient while she is learning. She is looking for a dog friend to play with and be rough and tumble. She is looking for a safe place to call home.

She is kennel trained , house trained , leash trained and loves snuggling. Lily can be a couch potato or a hiking buddy. She does well in the car and is up for going on an adventure.

Lily is up to date on her vaccinations, dewormed, and spayed. She did very well whenever she was at the vet office.

Anyone who has met this pint sized ball of fluff instantly falls in love.

For more information about ho you can make this little girl part of your family please fill out the adoption form or pm this page.

Update #2 :

Bernie is eating regularly now and has a meet and greet tomorrow morning with a potential foster . He has met the people and they adore him . Now to see if he gets along with their dogs .

Update 1:

The raw diet only worked for a day and a half. So next diet has consisted of some wet gastro food, recovery food, 1/4 of a raw pattie, some kibble and cottage cheese, with forti flora.

He is eating this mixture really well and is finishing his bowl clean . He is sleeping better, bowel movements are better and he is settling down a bit. We may have a long term foster for him if the meet and greet with their dogs goes well.

The hard part with dogs like Bernie is that we have no history on him so we are learning about him through trying to best meet his needs. He is a large breed , zero training two year old immature dog. So we are dealing with an 80 pound out of control teenager , lol. We cannot neuter him until he gains some weight as he would probably have a hard time to withstand the sedation in his present state.

He will be given all the time he needs to get well and we may already have a loving home for him , once he is better.

We will keep you posted .

Good evening .

We wanted to give you an update on Bernie aka Lewis.

He has been doing very well with people, being in the house ,training and such . He has , however, been having issues with eating.

Since he came in he has not been eating well. We are not sure but he seemed to be eating the bare minimum and has not been gaining any weight . Bernie weighed 81 pounds on 9 October and should be at least 100 - 120 pounds for his breeds. As such the decision was made to try him on a raw diet . He has been dewormed and has his first vaccinations .

He started his raw diet , yesterday , and he is eating much better. He is on Carnivora whole diet , with cottage cheese and sardines. We will keep you posted on his status as we get Bernie back to a healthy weight.
Until he gains weight we will not be able to have him neutered.

As most people know raw diet meals are not cheap and we would not have been able to put him on it without one of our most staunch supporters paying for this first box. Thank you Lisa!!!

Bernie is loving the new menu!

He will not be up for adoption for a while .

Update on Murphy :

Murphy was supposed to have teeth pulled today. When the vet looked in his mouth the teeth that were supposed to be removed were gone . Xrays were done to ensure that all was well, and all is well so no teeth were taken out.

He did get neutered today. He is on pain medication and sedation overnight. As with most Huskies he was quite vocal at the clinic and is resting comfortably tonight.

The break in Murphy's left rear leg is over a year old and it has healed . Murphy has figured out how to use the leg and does not seem in any pain or discomfort while using it. It has been decided that if we were to do anything with that leg that we would do more harm than good. We will add supplements for arthritis, which is already present.

As for his heartworm his vet is looking into doing what is called a slow kill off. As was stated earlier Murphy has been through quite a bit so we want to give him a chance to heal , and recover from his neuter before we go any further. He has been on Doxycyline for the past month and Heartgard. We will continue with Heartgard on a monthly basis and reevaluate his condition in a few months.

Thank you Marlene for stopping by to meet the boy you helped save and for the kennel, bedding and toy donation. You and your crew should be very proud .

Initial post :

Good day everyone.

Murphy is at Grant Park Animal Hospital today being neutered and having his dental work done.

Murphy has been through a lot and has been giving his foster a good workout in the process.

What we have come to know about Murphy is as follows:

- he hates being kenneled and destroyed two

- he loves being in an outdoor run

- he has a real sense of mischief

- he loves spending time with people

- he enjoys having steady meals

- he is starting to understand what toys do

- he would do best on a rural property being an only dog

- he is a character and needs a handler who will let him be a dog but put rules and boundaries in his life

- he can be pushy if he thinks he can get away with it

As you can see in the pictures Murphy loves laying in the sun, and chilling with his foster.

We will find out what , if anything , we will do about his broken leg. The break is probably a year or more old, he is getting around fine on the leg and sometimes leaving breaks alone is what is best for the animal.

We will also find out where we are in treating his heartworm. The xray of his heart was unremarkable , meaning that his heart is not enlarged so his burden of the parasite may allow us to do a slow kill method of treatment instead of the injections.

Once the vet calls we will update this post. If you would like to donate to his care please contact Susan Minter Noga at The Doughnators or send the donation directly to his vet at [email protected] and put Murphy in the comment line.

After we have addressed Murphy's medical issues he will be put up for adoption. If someone would like to help by fostering Murphy please contact our director to find out more information.

Another fundraiser that we have underway is being spearheaded by Linda Coutu one of our team members. Diana Brown has graciously offered for us to sell her jam to help pay for our vetting costs .

Some people may not realize it but our adoption fee never changes . When a dog has some serious medical issues we never recover the cost of their vetting through their adoption fee. This is why we , and all other rescues, are constantly fundraising for vetting costs .

Thank you Diana for this opportunity to help our animals .

Post made by Linda :

We have the opportunity to do a Homemade Jam /Jelly Fundraiser . Diana Brown has generously donated her homemade jam so we can raise funds for Lexi Relief Rescue to help pay for vetting, medications. Homemade Jam/Jelly Fundraiser 💯 percent of the money made will go to the rescue. We have 2 sizes , small are $5.00 and the larger jars are $7.00 . Here is the list of types we have , Crab Apple, Crab Apple Pear, Blueberry, Rhubarb,Rhubarb Apple, Rhubarb Strawberry,Apple,Jalepeno Jello, Grape.

In the large jars we have Blueberry,CrabApple Jelly,Apple Jelly, Pear Jam, Crab Apple pear. If you would like to place a order please message me ,and ty for your support.

Please message Linda Coutu or this page if you are interested in purchasing some wonderful jam. If you message our page we will get your order to Linda.

Thank you.

Update: #1

Lewis had his vet appointment today and we found out the following:

- 2-3 years of age

- weighs 81 lbs should weigh over 100 lbs

- heartworm negative

- his eyes are crossed because of genetics as there are no neurological issues with his eyes

- he was a real sweetheart with the vet and the staff

- he was given deworming medicine and his inital vaccination

- the staining on his fur , from the f***s and urine he was kept in , should fade with more baths

He is very skinny , has a great temperament and needs some training. The training will not start until he settles down and figures out that he is safe. Also a full report of his appointment will be sent to the RCMP in Steinbach.

Thank you Tannis Podheiser-Michaw for your donation.

Initial post:

Please meet a new addition to the Lexi's alumni. His name is Lewis, which we will be changing, who was abandoned in a wire kennel for 7- 10 days in his own f***s and urine, outside.

He was brought in to care by a Bernese Mountain dog rescuer but they couldn't take him in because he isn't pure enough for their insurance company to cover his liabilities . They dropped him off at a groomer who called us and now he is in our care.

The RCMP has been contacted to have his previous owner charged with abandonment, neglect and abuse. In order to make the case Lewis needs to see our vet at Grant Park Animal Hospital .

He has an appointment tomorrow afternoon, with Dr. Carey, which will cost between $180.00 - 300.00 , depending on his condition during the exam and any possible medications he may require.

He did have scalding on his sc***um , embedded f***s and urine in his coat when he came in . Since his arrival he has been given a medicated bath, at Loving Care Grooming owner Lisa Haney, and is getting used to being brushed. He is settling in but is still somewhat frantic in new situations.

If you would like to donate to his appointment tomorrow you can etransfer Grant Park Animal Hospital at [email protected] and please add the name for Lewis in the message line , or call in a credit card.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

02/08/2023

On Friday, 28th July 2023, seven puppies were transported to Cranbrook BC. They were taken in by our partner rescue Leslie Long Rescue . Originally there were only five pups going , but the week before we were contacted about two other pups in distress. I contacted Leslie and in true get er done fashion, Leslie Long found two more fosters . Birdie, Benji Naryan , Bianca, Aree, Lisa and River were the pups transported.

The pups were amazing on the trip . We did a layover walk, water , feed at my cousin's place in Lethbridge. All the pups loved being out running around . Natyan wasn't too sure about coming out of his kennel so Brad sat patiently with him and convinced Naryan that it was safe. Thank you Brad.

Jack got to meet the tiniest puppy named River. She may be small but she sure has grit!

Then Jack got to meet the puppy he named. Lisa was all over him in a flash.

Tina had everything ready for us when we pulled in and even her neighbour helped with River and donated some bedding.

Thank you for the rest stop and the donation Tina,Brad , Jack and Lucy. These stops are important for the animals and the drivers as well. Once back in the vehicle the pups went for a nap and we headed for Cranbrook.

Upon arrival, in Cranbrook, we were met by the excited foster and adoptive families. Each pup was introduced to their family , supplies distributed and one by one these pups were off to their new life. This trip was an emotional one for me as it will the last trip we will be doing for a while.

We rested overnight and headed back home. On our way home we encountered a severe thunderstorm with pounding rain, hail, high winds and non stop lightning. The storm delayed our return trip by six hours .

Having a partner rescue , like Leslie Long Rescue , is a life saver for these animals. Leslie is very particular with choosing the adoptive and foster families. The animals we bring in come from some very difficult situations so it's important to have them in loving , understanding homes. I sometimes joke with Leslie that she needs to find an adoptive family for me. 😉😉😉

Thank you Glenn Purpur for putting up with me during these crazy transports , the thunderstorm from hell and the long hours on the road. Some people would call you a Saint. Lol

Now that these pups have found their families , we still have four animals needing placement before I can take a long overdue break. We are still on an indefinite intake freeze and holding fundraisers to pay off our vet bills. Please keep watching for the posts on the animals needing a home and the upcoming fundraisers. As I've always said every penny counts.

Have a great evening !

Carmen

Well ladies and gentlemen Lulu found her family so let's see if we can get these two sweethearts a family to call their own.

Sam is a one year old husky/ shepherd/retriever mix. He is neutered and ready to bring someone many memorable moments of shear joy. He is a bit of a jester by times. He does need to burn off energy before you want him to focus but once you have his focus he's all yours. If you think this beautiful boy could be your heart dog please contact us for a viewing. Lol

Miss Mia! Mia is a year old female who came in as a stray. She is a sweetheart of a dog who needs a family to give her a reason the stay put and be loved on forever. She is a low energy dog and needs a gentle nudge to learn . Please contact us for more information on adopting this sweet girl.

Please share this post as far as possible. Getting these two dogs into a great home would be amazing .

23/07/2023

Good morning.

We are on an INDEFINITE INTAKE FREEZE effective today. At the moment the entire team has taken a hiatus to go back to their busy lives. Some have been on hiatus since our event in May and some only in the past few days . As such our team consists of me, the director.

As I have said all along this is not an easy gig with a team so you can imagine how daunting the past two months have been, doing everything on my own, except a few transports Glenn has done and Shona with the yard sale.

I do know how hard our team has worked , over the past couple of years. I know that they have changed plans at a moments notice, and that they have missed out on family functions so that they could help a dog in need or a stranded mom with 9 pups. I appreciate all that this group of wonderful human beings have done for me personally and for the animals we have seen come through the rescue. Thank you all for being there for these precious souls.
I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished thus far.

Burnout in rescue is real and affects every aspect of your being. From your physical , mental and family health, burnout can, and has already killed more than a few rescuers. With this in mind I too , have decided to take a break from bringing animals in to care, for the foreseeable future.

What does that means ? It means that while we may not have animals physically in care, we will still be helping to network with our partner rescues to help them help animals. Once I've had a rest we will only be bringing in a few dogs at a time.

Over the past two years we have helped over 300 animals. We have had some amazing animals show up and they have enriched our lives. We have taken in some tough cases , some costly cases and some cases that have ripped out our hearts. Some animals that came in to care were at death's door and we had to make the decision, with our vets, to humanely end their suffering. You cannot see what we have seen and not be affected. The pictures in this post are only a few of the sick, injured and emaciated animals we have had come through our doors. The anger , frustration and hopelessness eats away at you whenever another emaciated mom with a litter of puppies comes in to care. All you keep thinking is just feed the dog ffs . And to add insult to injury they want the mom back after they have bred her continously to make money with little to no regard for her well being, but tell you that they love her. 😪

I have been attacked on social media by other directors with lies about how we conduct ourselves and defended our practices . I have been dealing with the PVO since December 2022 , 7 months, because someone lodged a complaint about our rescue. So I've endured several inspections, a whole raft of emails and text messages from the PVO to ensure that I am being compliant with what they want.

My psyche needs a break from all the negativity, my body needs a break from the constant physicality of dealing with so many animals , and my heart needs a chance to grieve the ones we couldn't save or we could not bring in because we already had so many. In the past week I have recievd requests from people to take in almost 30 animals. I have had to say no to all requests.

With only one potential adoption this month I will be focusing on raising funds to pay off our vets. Our vets have been extremely understanding and patient, but the bills must be paid. As such we will be holding an on-line fundraiser starting August 4th until the 11 th, details to follow.

If you would like to donate to help pay off our vet bills please send me a message on our page and I will give you the information on where to send the donation.

In the next few posts I will showcase the remaining animals we have who need homes. Please share their posts far and wide so we can get them a family to love .

Thank you to our amazing supporters for your words of encouragement, your championing of the animals we have helped and investing your time to read their stories, make a comment and help us help the animals.
