Pony Appreciation Post - February 2022

February is Blue Ivy’s Month. Blue Ivy’s story starts out different to the other team members, her gifts are different to the other team members, and her needs were more complex than the other team members.

We met Blue Ivy on the 18th of July, 2017, Blue Ivy was the horse I didn’t even know existed and she captivated me. We had traveled down to K-town for the local show and had planned to check out a black Acres Destiny Mare named Grace that I’d been keen on for months. During conversations with Grace’s owner Callan, I don’t ever recall him mention Blue Ivy so I was quite surprised when we rocked up to meet Grace and a strikingly near black horse appeared beside the Acres Mare followed up by ol mate who had met us at the paddock asking“which horse” was it we were looking at.

Long story short, we purchased Grace and returned back to camp with both of them. After many conversations with Callan around what we could offer Grace etc. he made a decision to gift us Blue Ivy with handshake followed by him sharing that I just got given the deal of lifetime. He wasn’t wrong, Blue Ivy is the progeny of Cooks Royal Peppy out of a station bred mare named Beyoncé and she is put together well.

Blue Ivy is sensitive, we had so many “first rides” but we could never get past 3 successful rides without an incident which left me questioning if she had run with the roughstock team at the Rodeo. We transparently met with Janette, we had thought really hard about who may have the skill set (which included kindness) to take on the task of achieving 3 + success rides on Blue Ivy.

This post is also a shout out to all the people who supported and encouraged us along Blue Ivy’s journey and recognition we will be forever grateful of the time Janette put into Blue Ivy and the love Michele showed her during an extensive lease where we worked together and Michele provided Blue Ivy a chance to shine.

Blue Ivy is now back, standing beside Grace like no time has passed, and when I look out to them, and they knicker back everything feels complete.

Recently NT Integrated Therapy in partnership with Cross County Therapy Horses were invited to attend Belyuen Community.

Previously we have focused on supporting participants with NDIS plans, however, this was the first time we have had the opportunity to offer this in a remote indigenous community where needs can be high and children are often undiagnosed.

We were so humbled to be welcomed into the Belyuen School Community to share our wonderful horses and all they can offer to the students.
