I thought I'd start sharing more general posts of my flock here, as well as over on their instagram account - so you can meet them, get to know them a little and be part of their ongoing journey (alongside the toys!).
This is Bean, and is my most recent rescue, arriving late April - and completely by "accident".
I do some volunteer fostering with an organisation here in Adelaide, and had been asked to go and check on a couple of what I was told were canaries. Another volunteer had been stopping by to feed them, and they were worried about the health of one of them. I went to the residence (the owner was in hospital at that stage), and discovered 2 Indian Ringnecks - definitely not canaries!
Ricky, the other ringneck had an obvious wing injury, and with the state of the home I got permission to take the birds with me that same day.
I'll share more of Ricky's story at some point - the owner unfortunately ended up in a palliative care situation, and their family surrendered the birds, so I adopted them. Bean was formerly called Jelly Bean, I didn't want to change her name completely, but shortened it to Bean for a "fresh" start here in her new home.
Despite only being here a few months, she is firmly attached to me - and super smart so we started some basic training. Almonds are her most favourite thing in the world, so great to use as a treat in training. Here she is learning to "spin" - it is usually a bit more coordinated, but I was trying to record at the same time so a bit wonky.
Say hello to beautiful Bean! ๐
Every purchase of toys, helps me to support my flock of rescued and rehomed birds as the funds go towards their care ๐

Because special occasions like birdie birthdays and gotcha days should be celebrated with our treasured feathered friends - one of this months new releases is the "Parrot Party Plate" ๐ฅณ
The "cake" is food grade cardboard so safe for beaks to shred, and as they do they will discover an explosion of crinkle shred paper inside to add to the party vibe.
The plate also has 2 sola ball "cupcakes" and a small sola flower - all sitting in eco friendly cups to help catch dry foods and treats to make for a fun foraging experience to celebrate those special moments!

I had another tester checking out one of next month's new releases for me - Bean, here at the moment as a foster.
Bean hasn't really had toys before, but wasted no time discovering how good sola is and the logs and balls have been a fun discovery.
I think the theme of this "toy" is pretty clear - but a proper introduction in a few days time is coming ๐๐ฅณ

Sweet Jelly-Bean is here with me at the moment as a foster situation - and had no idea what toys were.
I slowly introduced small pieces to start with to see what he would prefer and the sola logs were a hit - so made a toy with whole pieces and while it did get side eye for a few hours.....
We have success!
Sometimes introducing new things has to be broken down into tiny steps, particularly for birds that haven't had things like appropriate toys before. As they get used to textures etc you can start introducing bigger things until you have them interacting with a whole toy.
Slow and steady - encouragement but not forcing, and letting them set the pace is a good way to set everyone up for success.

Nice chunky bits of balsa wood paired with a piece of corkbark will satisfy any beak!
There are also honeycomb cardboard slices to add to the fun, what's there for a bird not to love about this combination?!
Thanks to Elmo's dad for the support and sharing the video, love seeing my feathered customers happy ๐ฉต

One of my own flock - Scruffs - had surgery on one of his eyes this week. His recovery has been a bit up and down and he looks rougher than normal, but today he has turned a corner and is far more active which is great to see ๐
Unfortunately as he recovers he can't be in his normal cage with his friends and has an adjusted set-up for the moment.
Scruffs isn't the biggest toy bird - but he absolutely loves the "Summer Spinner" so I made sure to have one in with him to help keep him occupied ๐
The nice soft balsa and sola sticks are great for him to shred and get some energy out without over-doing it.

One of my rescue budgies - Pip - showing how much budgies love to chew and shred!
This is why a majority of my toys have natural components that help you to meet some of your birds needs.
Birds shred in the wild - to make hollows in trees for nesting, to strip branches etc of food - for all sorts of reasons!
Chewing on, or shredding bird safe woods also help your bird to keep their beak naturally trimmed and maintained.

The way Etsy counts things is actually a bit weird - if someone orders 2 or 3 of the same item in the one order, they only count it as "one" toy and not the actual individual number of toys sold/ordered๐คฆโโ๏ธ
I know my figures are higher - but I'll take this too to make it "official"!
It's a big responsibility providing safe but fun toys - each one is hand made, and rest assured that if I wouldn't give it to my birds then I'm not going to sell it for your birds.
