Bree the Brittany on one of her recent walks - how happy does she look!

Bred to hunt and sniff, Bree is often found seeking out and checking all the game trails we pass by - her size does not stop her from keeping up with the bigger dogs either, she's a little pocket rocket and is usually the one setting the pace for adventures when she's out and about!

She's a little ball of fun!

Curious about our services? Here are some of the top frequently asked questions we get about our adventure dog walks - this post has all the details you need!

Q1. How do the dogs get to the adventure walk?
A1: We pick up and drop off the dog, included in the service price. Drop off and pick up is outside of the walk time booked, so the dogs will often be out for between 2-4 hours.

Q2: My dog can be nervous around new people and new things, can they be booked for a walk?
A2: Yes! Adventure walks can be a great way to build a dogs confidence. We also have a pool of mentor dogs which can often assist in creating a calm and safe environment for new dogs on their walk. We will always tell you how they go on their walks.

Q3. Do the dogs go off lead?
A3: No. Most places we visit are on leash areas. This minimises the risk of the dogs booked for an adventure encountering off leash dogs. All dogs are on 5m long lines which allows them plenty of room to sniff and move.

Q4: How many dogs can book to go on the same adventure?
A4: Maximum 4 dogs per handler. However most adventures are capped at 3.

Q5: How do I book in?
A5: Bookings can be made through the website. We can also schedule a re-occuring booking to ensure you always get the same spot.

Spotlight on ours squad: Meet Juno, our enthusiastic explorer! Juno is a lively and energetic Weimaraner who loves nothing more than hitting the trails. Always leading the way, Juno’s energy and curious nature mean she often pulling ahead, eager to explore what lies around the next bend.

Juno is accustomed to adventuring with her sibling, Ada, and is always happy to make new friends along the way. Her social nature makes her a great companion for any group hike, as she gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Thanks for adventuring with us Juno!

Our next puppy class will be up and running soon. If you're looking for something to help get you and your puppy ready for Spring adventures, our Puppy Class is a great place to start.

We cover a range of real life skills and provide opportunities to practice in class, but most importantly, we help you build the relationship with your dog so you can go on learning and feel confident doing so.

Spotlight on our squad, meet Arlo the Golden Retriever.
He is the embodiment of happiness!

We met Arlo when he joined our Puppy Class, and since then he has continued to grow from an excitable teenager into a sociable adventurer who enjoys exploring along side any of his fellow companions to sniff and walk along the trails.

Thank you for choosing to spend your adventure time with us Arlo!

4 Mistakes to Avoid With Your New Puppy

1. Thinking puppy behaviours will go away
Not all behaviours puppies grow out of. If you notice things your puppy does that you don’t enjoy, don’t assume it’s a “puppy thing” and they will get over it. Seek help if unsure.

2. Overusing cues before they know the behaviour
Puppies need to learn behaviours and then have a cue associated with the action to avoid confusion. By repeating cues where the puppy hasn’t respond, you risk reinforcing a behaviour that doesn’t match the cue.

3. Assuming they just know how to be alone
Often puppies are coming from having buddies with them 24/7. Don’t wait until you need to leave them alone to start their training on how to be left alone happily and safely.

4. Encouraging over excited socialisation
Yes puppies need to socialise, but sometimes we can encourage over excitement towards other dogs or humans without knowing it.

This handsome young lad is Phoenix the Dog Bordeaux, one of the pups in our recent class. His owners are putting in great effort in classes now to ensure they have the skills to continue teaching him as he grows and we just love seeing these kind of moments from pups engaging with their humans during the class activities!

Things you can do when your dog becomes over threshold in training (or life).

- remove the trigger
- user a higher value reward
- stop, try again another day
- ask for help
- create distance (from the trigger if you know what it is)
- slow down
- make note of the factors around you
- break down the training steps (make it more manageable for your dog)

This is just a selection of ways we can help our dogs when they become over whelmed and it is worth noting that triggers will be individual for each dog and will require an individual response which works best for that dog. Not all triggers are obvious and they can be brought on in different ways.

Understanding your dogs body language can also help you notice where your dogs threshold might be, before they become over threshold.

Sui, one of the Border Collie puppies from a recent class 🦊

This gal is super smart and switched on, just as her breed traits would note, a quick learner and keen to work. She learnt skills fast and was so great to see her owner challenge her a small amount each lesson to keep her brain working.

Grant your dog the freedom to explore at their own pace. Allowing them to sniff allows them to understand their environment, decompress and regulate their stress levels and will provide mental stimulation which is different to physical stimulation which is usually provided through exercise.

Long lines are great for encouraging sniffing and allow dogs to explore safely. While not all walks or spaces are great for using long lines they can be handy to take with you on a walk and use when the time is right. Your dog will definitely appreciate some slow time to stop and sniff where possible!

Spotlight on our Squad - meet Arthur the Large Munsterlander

Arthur, a Large Munsterlander, is a bundle of energy, showcasing the inherent traits of his breed with his natural desire to hunt and flush birds.

Initially he houses alot of boundless energy but he settles well into his walks, trotting alongside his fellow adventurers to sniff in company.

Helping Arthur meet his needs and seeing him find ful-fillment in exploration makes him a great part of the crew.

Thanks for adventuring with us Arthur!
