Meet Tonto: Your Future Best Friend!

Tonto, our 4 ½-year-old black greyhound, is on the lookout for his new forever home! This handsome boy is equal parts sofa snuggler and quirky character. Here’s what you need to know about this lovable lad:

🐾 Couch Connoisseur: Tonto is a pro at lounging, especially with Triple M radio playing in the background. He’s perfectly content to chill at home for 8+ hours while you’re at work—as long as he gets his 20-minute walk beforehand.

🐾 Potty-Proficient (Mostly): With a proper schedule, Tonto rarely has indoor accidents. A 20-minute morning walk and a 30-minute evening stroll keep him happy and settled until 7 a.m. But don’t forget the late-night “wee trick!” A treat usually convinces him to venture out one last time before bed. Skip this step, and you might find him patiently waiting by the door at 3 a.m. (or find a puddle in the kitchen if you’re a deep sleeper!).

🐾 Excited for Adventures: Tonto’s enthusiasm for walks is unmatched! He’ll bounce around like a puppy when he sees his lead. With a bit of patience and training, his excitement can be channeled into graceful behavior.

🐾 Ninja Cheese Detector: Tonto has an uncanny ability to sense cheese being unwrapped from anywhere in the house—even when he’s “asleep” upstairs! You’ll never snack alone with this guy around.

🐾 Loyal Leaner: True to greyhound fashion, Tonto loves to lean on his humans for comfort and connection. It’s his way of saying, “You’re my favorite person.”

Tonto would thrive with a family who appreciates his quirks, offers him love, and doesn’t mind a little extra cheese-sharing. If you’re ready to welcome this snuggly, funny, and affectionate boy into your life, Tonto is ready to meet you!

Could Tonto be the missing piece of your heart and home? Reach out today to learn more about this incredible boy and we will put you in contact with his current peoples to set up a pat n chat!

🐾 Every Greyhound Has a Story 🐾

Meet Elton 🐾🥰

Elton is a truly special boy with a heart as cute as his floppy ears (which, by the way, have absolutely no control – and it’s adorable!). He’s looking for a loving home where his unique story can unfold with patience, understanding, and care.

🌟 A Beautiful Soul: Elton has the sweetest nature and, though he’s still learning to navigate the outside world, he’s making slow but steady progress. Walks aren’t essential for him just yet—he’s perfectly happy being a bit of a homebody while he adjusts.

💕 Shy but Loving: While Elton can be a little timid at first, he warms up quickly. Once he trusts you, his happy, loving personality shines through. He adores cuddles and scritches and wants to be part of your life, though he’s never pushy or needy.

🍖 Food Lover Extraordinaire: Elton loves all food, which makes mealtime a breeze and training a joy!

🐶 Friendly & Independent: Elton gets along well with all dogs but prefers to be the only pup in the house—he’s a bit of a solo act when it comes to living arrangements.

🐱 Cat Potential: Elton has met several cats in a cattery and wasn’t fazed, lived with a cat for a short time inside, though he hasn’t been tested with outdoor cats yet.

🏡 Dream Home: Elton would love a backyard—not a huge one, just enough space to stretch his legs and enjoy some quality sniffing time.

🌈 The Perfect Match: Elton needs a patient and understanding person who’s okay with his preference to stay close to home sometimes. With your love and support, his confidence will continue to grow, and his sweet, happy nature will shine even brighter.

Elton is a happy, loving boy with so much to give. If you’re looking for a gentle companion who’ll fill your life with love and laughter, Elton might just be the one for you.

Are you ready to help Elton write the next chapter of his story? Reach out today to meet this amazing boy! ❤️

🐾 Meet Sophie – Your New Best Friend! 🐾

Sophie is an adorable, 3.5 yrs old loving pup with a personality as big as her heart! This sweet girl is looking for her forever home, and we know her perfect match is out there. Here’s a little about Sophie:

🐈‍⬛- cat tolerant. Lives with some kitty friends and respects the hiss when needed, hahaha. 🤣

🌟 A Little Mischief Maker: Sophie has a funny habit of “borrowing” things she fancies—like slippers, the TV remote, and more. It’s all part of her charm!

🍖 Food Motivated & Well-Mannered: Sophie is highly food motivated and has already learned to wait patiently for her meals when told.
Would be suitable with older kids. 8+ (only cuz she gets excited and could bowl over little kiddies 🙂)

🐾 Excitable & Affectionate: She can hardly contain her excitement when her humans come home! Sophie is a little “mouthy” during pats, but it’s all gentle and her way of showing affection.

🚶 Timid but Brave: Walks can be a bit overwhelming for Sophie, especially when passing energetic or aggressive dogs. She’s shy at first but warms up quickly, becoming incredibly affectionate and sweet.

💞 Pats Are Her Priority: Sophie loves cuddles and will happily nudge her way in for extra attention, even if it means moving her furry friends out of the way. She adores being near her people.

🐶 Best with a Buddy: Sophie thrives with company and may feel lonely if left alone all day. She would do well in a home with another dog while you are at work or out.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will fill your days with love and laughter, Sophie could be your girl!

if Sophie sounds like the perfect addition to your family, get in touch today! We can set you up with a pat n chat to meet her.

She’s waiting for her forever home! Could you be the one? 🏡❤️

Seeking a home for a loving and lovable greyhound
Yankee is a healthy, happy and very affectionate 8-year old greyhound who has lived in Port Pirie with me for three years since he was adopted from Greyhounds as Pets SA.
He is a loveable and loving boy who loves giving and receiving affection. He is shy but after a time, attaches easily to people he likes. Yankee can stay at home alone for fulltime hours and sleeps most of the day. Although he likes his own space and a calm environment, he loves the company of another dog.

Yankee will attach to a person who is kind and patient and gives him ear scratches, small regular walks and affection. Yankee needs an understanding person who gives him time to get use to a new environment. Yankee has been very well cared for. Recently he had his teeth cleaned. Due to an increase in family responsibilities, Yankee’s owner has travel commitments that make proper care for him difficult. A suitable new home is being sought. Yankee would not suit a home with children or a cat or a very small dog (such as chihuahua). He would go well with any person or family who is seeking company for their dog or any person who has space in their heart for an adorable ex racer greyhound.

Hey greyhound community…. can you help our friends at Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) South Australia?
These guys are amazing and need our help to keep their Adelaide hub going.

The Adelaide hub is extremely important to many rescues around SA with food, bedding, medication, litter, etc. Being donated to help their programs.

ARC SA help our greyhounds in foster care by donating dry food, treats, and on occasion doggy related items when it’s available.
But without these guys, we will ALL suffer!

If you could afford a donation or even a small monthly amount to help them out, it would make the biggest difference and help keep their hub supplying critical items for all rescues and rehoming groups around SA, including BTG.

Please use our link below on behalf of BTG, and show them that the greyhound community cares and will do our best to help keep them going 🥰

A big massive thank you to Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) South Australia for their generous donation of dog food for our greyhounds today.
These donations are a huge help and takes a big burden off our shoulders knowing we have some extra food to feed our beautiful greys
Without their help we would be lost!

Thank you so much!

Please make sure you support those who provide this to all rescues.
We thank them all from the bottom of empty bowls and full greyhound tummies. 🥰

Happy new year all!
This morning we received an update from one of our adopted greys, Jack (Brindle, Weblec Jack) and his GAP brother Johnny (fawn & white) .
They are on an adventure to Darwin to their new home!
This is what their hoomans sent us..

“Happy New Year Angela. Just thought I would send you some pics, we are on our way to Darwin and Jack and J***y made friends with many along the way. Jack is not phased by much at all really Also loved the local constabulary just outside Tenant Creek. They have travelled great with us and have had a great time so far.
We are arriving in Darwin Friday, we left last Saturday and had 2 days in Coober Pedy, 1 in Alice, 1 in Tenant Creek and 2 in Katherine.”

Jack and Johnnys parents are Army (thank you both for your service 🇦🇺)
So these furry army brats are well travelled and enjoying every moment! Meeting new friends along the way and smelling all the different sights.

Travels safe guys! 🐾🥰

We love getting updates and being a part of their lives after adoption.
Trainers and foster carers also love being a part of this and seeing their adventures in life from time to time. It puts a smile on your dial. 😊
This is what creates the tight knit greyhound community.
🐾🐾🐾🐾
🥰

Have a great New Year’s Day and keep your puppies safe!

A big Christmas thank you to Kelly and Dave for their wonderful donation of dog toys for the foster greyhounds in our program.

Last year when they were married, their guests at their wedding all gave gifts of dog toys which were later donated to BTG.
So on their 1 year anniversary, they donated more! Happy anniversary Kelly and Dave!

All greyhounds that enter our program get their own new toy to start foster care, this toy follows them on their journey and into adoption.
So these toys are pretty special.

Thank you so much and the greyhounds thank you too!

BTG - Rehoming Greyhounds

Bridging the Gap - Greyhound Rehoming SA is a private community group who are dedicated to assisting retired racing greyhounds with training and preparation required for the next stage of their life : Adoption with their new family.

Bridging the Gap between racing and retirement allows the greyhound to slowly adjust to the daily routine of home life. As we all know, Greyhounds are fantastic pets, however most do not understand the home life routine that most of us and our other dogs take for granted. Some greyhounds have never met their reflection in a mirror and may bark at it or may not have experienced stairs or a vacuum cleaner or those daily household appliances that we use regularly. Some have only ever met other greyhounds and need to be taught how to socialise with other dogs, both big and small. There are some greyhounds who have already been down those roads and just need a place to hang out until the right home is found.

No matter what the need, BTG is there to help greyhounds. Whether it be foster placement and adoption or some extra help with pre-training before entering another organisation. The volunteers at BTG also offer Pre-assessments to help the owner/trainer to deterimine what type of home it will be suitable for. We are there for the Greyhound, and aim to do our very best to help with rehoming, whatever type of journey that may be.

Our dedicated volunteers have been active in the greyhound industry both in racing and rehoming for over 15 years. They understand greyhound behaviour and training and also know that greyhounds are unlike any other breed, which requires a more specialised touch when it comes to training and rehoming.
