But it was only 5 minutes.......

In a perfect world it would be great if we could tie our dogs up outside shops and pop in for 5 minutes. Unfortunately this isn't always the case and a lot of people will take this as an opportunity to relieve you of your dog or hurt your dog.

It's also against council regulations to leave dogs unattended outside shops as dogs need to be under your full control at all times when outside your property.

Even if they are on a type of lead that supposedly makes it harder for them to be stolen, they can still get kicked and abused by passers by, and they could bite a person or another dog. Please don't be lulled into a false sense of security by marketing that tells you that a lock will keep your dog safe.... It won't!

Dogs get stolen for all manner of reasons, it could be for dog fights, for breeding, for cruelty or in the hope of obtaining a reward.

It might only be 5 minutes but those 5 minutes could be all it takes to lose your dog. Save the shopping for another time when you don't have your dog with you or find somewhere that lets you take your dog inside.
