Grug 💕
Though she is very cute, breeding pigeons like this is very much not cute! Her feathers make her life more difficult because they grow over her eyes and her walking is an awkward. Add that to the fact that she has most likely been so inbred because people want an aesthetic, that she is unable to fly well and struggles socially with other pigeons.
Turkey, a girl from the egg industry, has a couple of important questions for you to consider while she raids our shopping.
Turkey the house chicken wants you to stop eating chickens and their eggs and make vegan trifle instead. It’s her solution to all problems in the world.
The house chicken is constantly in the groceries. She’s definitely recovered more of her vision after her stroke but she has absolutely no interest in joining the outside flock again.

I still have people ask me what we do with the eggs from the hens. The answer is feed them back to them. How could we not when you see how much they love them?
For isa brown chickens the process of egg laying leaches so much calcium from their little bodies because they have been genetically manipulated to lay an egg every 25 hours. Imagine having your period every 25 hours! Feeding their eggs back to them is how they get some of that calcium back.
Who said pigeons were dirty animals? They are only dirty when they live in human cities and get covered in human pollution. They would much rather be clean. Our gang are loving the sprinkler in this hot weather.

Why is my house always so messy? Oh yeah, because of the Seed Sorters, Hop and Curly Fries.
Wow, what a crazy time it has been for us here at New Life For Animals. We were forced to move out of our house due to the owner selling and although originally we were heading West of Melbourne, we ended up East of Melbourne. We have really landed on our feet in a beautiful space for the next year.
On Sunday we had a working bee to build the first pigeon aviary. A massive thank you to our volunteers 💕 For about a week the pigeons were staying in carriers and it’s been very intense for everyone. Yesterday we finished the first aviary and introduced the pigeons to it. While they are much MUCH happier in the aviary, we still need to get and build a second one so that they have much more room AND we are looking to begin adopting out pigeons to wonderful forever homes.
Over the next few months, you will see lots of posts about pigeons up for adoption. Please share these posts if you can and help us find the right people to give them safe and loving forever homes. We strictly do not adopt animals out to breeders or anyone looking to use the animal in any way that exploits them. If you do know anyone seeking to add a couple of pigeons to their household or aviary, please get in touch with us.
Petrie and his damn sticks 🙄
Sorbet searching for her treat under her stacking cups while Pudding is grumpy. We did a little photo shoot because it has almost been 200 days that they have been in care with no interest 😔

Turquoise hurt her leg the other week. Unfortunately, even after a visit to the vet and with daily pain relief, it does not seem to be improving. Today I tried her in a chair for the first time and Sage came to inspect. While Sage gave her a little groom, she had a bit of a nap 😍
We will need to head back to the vet this week with her for an X-ray but our bank account is in the negative once again after an $850 bill at the vets this week. If you would like to donate, you can do so via bank transfer:

This bonded pair of flops have moved out of foster care and back here to the rescue but STILL haven’t had a single enquiry for their adoption 😔
President Pudding and Saint Sorbet would love a very special forever home together and you can read more about them and apply to adopt via our PetRescue:

They said to say excuse their coats, they are malting like crazy in this weather 💁♀️💁♂️
Petrie came in as an orphan almost a year ago and at the time, we were unsure he was going to survive. Since then he has developed a hilarious and unusual relationship to us. He has two girlfriends and today he wanted to test the boundaries by asking if he could build his nest in the house. The answer was definitely no and I think he took it pretty well.
Wallis & Chassis are up for adoption.
They will need a very particular home that will ensure they don’t breed (There are enough dumped ducks in the world that need homes, we definitely don’t need to be breeding more!) and will give them a fox-proof space for their safety. Apply via petrescue:

Their backstory:
This bonded pair were dumped together on a lake in Melbourne. Wallis was the victim of a terrible dog attack and suffered with a nasty wound for several weeks before he was rescued by a member of the public and brought to us. He received stitches and had to have necrotic skin cut away. We were then alerted to his partner Chassis who wasn’t able to be rescued at the same time but had since been relentlessly hassled by the other male ducks on the lake. She had sustained injuries from this and from the unfortunate lack of appropriate accessibility options for getting out of the water at that particular lake. She was then rescued and has been recovering from her attacks. Both were reunited and have a clear bond to each other.
