BILLY THE BRAVE - LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME

Meet Billy the Brave. He had a grooming session so he can look his best for this FB post. Three years of Billy’s life have been spent on an intensive breeding facility, and nearly another year has been spent at GRR HQ learning to trust humans. Billy has no problem with dogs, ignores cats and has shared his yard with several Goldies who have now gone to their forever homes. Now it's Billy’s turn to find a home where people will be patient with him while he learns how to be part of a family. Billy has requested a quiet life and a Golden sister, which isn’t much for a four-year-old boy to ask.

You can find Billy’s poster on the GRR website https://www.grr.org.au/rescue6.html

Please remember that GRR looks for the right home for each dog's specific needs (not just any Goldie home). If you can provide a home that meets Billy's requirements, GRR would love to hear from you. You can apply to adopt Billy through our website.

Please note: We are unable to respond to queries about Billy on our page.

🐾 End of Financial Year – A Golden Opportunity to Give Back 🐾

Meet Orlando, Elsa, and Joey – three beautiful Goldies who came into GRR’s care after being rescued from an intensive breeding establishment. Despite their young age, all three were suffering from a range of health and emotional issues. Most heartbreakingly, each of them required double cataract surgery to have a chance at seeing the world clearly. With such specialist veterinarian care required, these operations and the necessary aftercare can be (understandably) expensive.

Huge thanks go to our incredible supporters, who generously donate to help the Goldies. Because of you, Orlando, Elsa, and Joey have had their sight saved—and even more wonderfully, they’ve each found their forever families, where they’re now thriving, loved, and finally living the happy golden lives they deserve.

As we approach the end of the financial year, we’re reminded how vital your support is. Every donation over $2 is tax-deductible, and every dollar helps us continue this life-changing work for Goldies who need our help.

👉 DONATE TODAY and help us give more golden retrievers their best chance at a happy, healthy future.

The goldies currently in our care – and those who will come to us in the year ahead – will be forever grateful for your kindness. 💛

GRR is happy to report that rescues are finding their forever homes, with Rory and Abby settling into their new homes and getting to know their families.

Rory has found the perfect fit with this handsome young man, deciding that they were meant for each other the moment he met his family. Abby also surprised GRR with her interest in her new family and Golden sister, Bonnie.

Rory came from a home where he was loved and cared for, but due to family circumstances, he could no longer live at his home, so deciding on his new parents was easy for this boy.

Abby is a very different rehoming, as coming from an Intensive Breeding Facility, her experience with humans has not been positive. However, Abby surprised everyone by showing interest in 2-year-old Bonnie and both of her parents. GRR carers were left open-mouthed as Abby interacted with Bonnie and was happy to be placed on lead and come into the house to complete paperwork. Abby looked very at home, sitting in the back seat of the car with Bonnie. While she had a long road ahead of her, Abby’s family was up for the task. Rescue adoption is all about this, and GRR wishes both Rory and Abby happy ever afters.

Sunday was a golden day, with the grounds covered with Goldies for the Golden Retriever Club of NSW’s Goldens Galore. It was a day of information on health and rescue, and demonstrations of Showing, Obedience, Gundog Work, Tricks, and Scent Work. The GRR Stall received plenty of visits from former rescues, now much-loved family members, and it was good for all involved to meet these Goldies.

Hazel and Banjo, Winnie, Dudley, Ruby and Holly, who insisted their families visit the GRR tent for cuddles, smooches and tummy rubs. Who would have thought that the terrified Hazel could come to a big day out with so many Goldies and take it so well.

Plenty of sales and Golden fun made for a great day out.

Thank you to the Golden Retriever Club of NSW for inviting GRR to talk about the rescue Goldies and allowing GRR to chat to the many people who visited the Stall about fostering and adopting.

Goldens Galore it certainly was, and all involved had a Golden time.

It's going to be a wonderful day at Goldens Galore this Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you there!

It has taken eight months and many people to show Millie that life is to be enjoyed, cared for, and loved.

Recently, a family who had previously adopted Joey, a boy from an Intensive Breeding Facility, visited GRR HQ to have a meet and greet with the rescue Goldies, as this family felt that Joey would appreciate sharing his life with a Golden friend. Every rescue had a meet and greet with Joey and his family, and although the family would have liked to take all the Goldies home with them, it was one of the Goldies in care that chose them. Millie took one look at Joey and decided that he was her new brother, and Joey didn’t mind being chosen by Millie. It is somehow poetic justice that just two years ago, Joey, who was just as scared and wary of humans as Millie, now has the opportunity to help another Goldie from the same situation.

Joey and Millie’s family know that it will take time and patience to show Millie how to be part of a loving home, as they went through the process with Joey two years ago. However, GRR received news that Millie is following Joey’s lead and is settling into family life.

The rescue Goldies at GRR love their Farrell’s biscuits and don’t take long to get through the boxes of biscuits that Farrell’s donate on a regular basis, so a call to Sam at Farrells saw GRR driving to the Warehouse to pick up the boxes put aside for the rescue Goldies. Sam was excited to tell us about a new product that Farrell’s have added to their line, a Joint Supplement. Farrells were very generous in giving GRR several containers of Glucanine in both the powder and paste. We are excited to add this supplement to the Goldies diet to help improve their mobility.

Thank you Farrells for your ongoing support of GRR and the rescue Goldies.

Monty had a meet and greet with a family and their Goldie on Saturday, which proved to be a huge success. Two-year-old Monty met one-year-old Nacho, and after a few minutes, they began to play. Lots of play bowing and chasing each other around the paddock.

With the recent rain, it was a very muddy meeting with both dogs and people mud-spattered but happy, as Nacho and Monty were having a great time together. Before leaving for the two-week trial with his new family, Monty had a quick bat,h and Nacho was towelled dry before settling in the car for the journey home.

GRR has received news that Monty travelled well, approves of his new home and he and Nacho continue to play and are great mates.

Bye-bye, Monty, it’s certainly a lot quieter around GRR HQ without you.

Three new arrivals into GRR foster care are looking for forever homes. All these dogs are gorgeous Goldens; as always, with rescues, they come into GRR’s care for a reason.

The lovely 4-year-old girl Remi is a combination of Spider-Man and Superman with her ability to leap or climb tall fences at a single bound.

Rory, an eighteen-month-old boy, requires time and patience to become a fantastic family member, while 9-year-old Summer requires a home with one or more dogs as she loves to play.

IMPORTANT:

GRR observes and works with each dog to determine what will work best for them in a forever home. We are searching for just the right home for every Goldie that comes into our care.

Please be sure to read all of the information provided about each dog on their posters on our website, and only apply for one of the goldies here if you meet the criteria relevant to that dog.

TO APPLY:
Go to www.grr.org.au to complete the adoption questionnaire.

We won't be replying to messages on Facebook concerning these Goldies.

A great day for the Goldies at GRR HQ when the crew from Golden Home Stays https://goldenhomestays.com.au/ arrived to spend time with the rescue Goldies. Lots of walks, loads of tummy rubs, Golden cuddles and kisses, brushing, and a tidy up of the property. Lunch time arrived, and there was more Golden talk over lunch. All the rescues were very quiet as they were exhausted from the morning’s activities.

Cooper, a recently arrived, very overweight Golden boy, won the foster care jackpot when he left with Vanessa and Stephen to continue his weight loss program at Golden Home Stays. Doggie swimming pool, doggie sand pit, acres to explore and other Goldies for company. Cooper has already tried out the swimming pool and given the golden seal of approval to his accommodation. GRR looks forward to seeing a new and slimmer Cooper in the next few months.

Many thanks to all thirteen of you who gave up your Sunday to make life better for the rescues. It may be a few hours where you get to play with the rescues, but for the rescues, this one-on-one time with people who give them love and attention is so beneficial. Watching you interact with the rescues today, you can see the changes in these Goldies who are learning to receive love, to walk on lead and turn into regular Goldies. The time all of you have spent with these Goldies makes their journey to a loving, forever home that little bit closer.

It’s been a busy time for GRR as Ruby also attended VSoS (Veterinary Specialists of Sydney) for a check-up, and the news is better than we could have anticipated. It was thought that Ruby may need to have further surgery to pack Botox around her tube to prevent urine leakage. Ruby would be required to stay in foster care for another six months and be monitored for any leakage.

Ruby’s foster family indicated to Dr Amy Pepper that Ruby’s urine leakage is minimal, so it was decided that no further surgery would take place. Ruby will be monitored until she is eighteen months old, when she will have a check-up, and if the urine leakage has stopped, Ruby will be desexed.

By the time Ruby is desexed and ready for rehoming, there will be no trouble finding her a home because she already lives there. Ruby loves her humans and her two golden brothers, and they love Ruby. This family has gone through mopping up urine, dog nappies, puppy training, and the angst and worry that goes with caring for a puppy whose outcome is not assured.

Happy forever family, Ruby.

Orlando attended his appointment at VSoS on Tuesday this week, and the lovely Olivia took him to Vet Vision, where Dr. Matt operated on his cataracts. There were collective breaths while waiting for the call after surgery, and when it came, it was all good news!

Orlando came through surgery with flying colours, and he was all smiles as he spent time with Angie from VSoS, who is part of the team caring for Orlando post-surgery. Over the next two weeks, Orlando will be on a regimen of medication and eye drops, and he needs to be kept calm and quiet, so he is staying under the care of VSoS’s Medical Boarding, where he can attend follow-up visits to Vet Vision and receive lots of cuddles and care from the VSoS Team.

Orlando has had quite the journey since coming to GRR. The first photo is Orlando on his first day with a GRR foster carer. He arrived scared, sad, and wary of people.

Since he has been in foster care, Orlando has gradually learned that people can be nice and will give him cuddles and kindness. As seen in the other photos, he looks like a completely different dog these days—happy and enjoying all the attention he is getting with his surgery aftercare.

Sometimes, it takes a village, and GRR sends our grateful thanks to Dr Matt and his Team at Vet Vision and to the Team at VSoS who are caring for Orlando post-surgery. A special thank you to the family and friends of Dr Sharon Ryan, who helped make Orlando’s eye surgery possible. Orlando’s surgery has had a successful outcome, and Orlando’s sight has been saved. Orlando can see.
