One of my fav lazy horses going came home yesterday for a tune up โค It's only for a short while before he goes home to his new home but God I forgot how much I love this horse! So much fun having this chunka home for some night sessions, Not to mention how good is my new night light??? Bonus of dating a sparky, you get light ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ’กโšก๏ธ looking forward to the longer days and more horse time!

Another unposted transformation picture!
This mare had been retired to the paddock and as you can see is a very good doer. Her rehab took almost 3 months between these photos as she would only tolerate smaller less active sessions to reduce stress on the joints and build fitness and had an infection that had to be treated. (She has since lost further weight and is much more fit but I am slack at doing the further picture updates ๐Ÿ˜…)

Almost done for the season! Thankyou everyone for your support โค๏ธ I will be taking on outside horses again in aug/sep once the days start to get longer again. Winter is for my ponies and long shifts at work in the hospital ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Still have some clients I am catching up with on a regular basis to keep their horses progressing and some to set up ready for the next intake of training ๐Ÿ’ช

Please get in contact with any enquiries.

Love seeing the progress ๐Ÿ˜ so much muscle and lots of toning after 4 weeks of work. This little guy also got some important massage work and had hocks taped to see if it helped with stretching and comfort. His almost finished his training here and his owner is very excited to have him home. ๐Ÿก

Love this app gives me a chance to check out how many hours are going into the training horses. I also use it with my own horses to get an idea of what a training session is looking like and how much time is going into each gait.

Alittle look at one of the trails taken with a trail riding horse coming back into work after some time off.

Morning liberty session.
Playing around with jumping the barrels at liberty. Now to get abit more energy ๐Ÿคฃ

24/04/2023

The current training horses lined up ready to go for the morning. Time spent tied up at the rail teaches patience, not to mention the horses love to come in for breakfast! Have a black theme going at the moment, once the bay training gelding comes back we will have a black and a bay team ๐Ÿคฃ

Update time! My big rescue Ted the starving horse who was unable to be loaded onto a float has made a massive turn around. He is now sound (he was dead lame when i picked him up), has his energy back and has put on some weight! He has now moved on to be a companion for a retired horse in a large grassy paddock. Ted now at 14 gets to live out the rest of his life enjoying good food and company ๐Ÿ˜Š

New edition,
He needs a paddock name!!

Bought this big teady bear today. He's got such a kind face ๐Ÿ˜ the owner had nothing to do with horses and the horse had been left in the paddock for the last 3 years, apparently had tried to rehome him for a while but everyone that came could never get him on a float or truck they had tried with and without other horses but left with an empty bay. Soo I set out for the challenge and 30-40 mins later we were on our way home, after just slowly taking our time no sweat or getting upset and he floated home like a dream. Horses definitely teach us patience.

He will be here for while now whilst we sort out his feet, teeth, put some weight on him and have him healthy then he will either go to a companion home or be retrained.

Good morning!
I am very excited to announce that I will be able to take individual lessons for introduction to horses. This is aimed at people looking to get into horses but are unsure how or where to start, and people that have bought their first horse but never grew up around them so have found themselves in a brand new environment!

These sessions will cover important information such as:
-How to safely catch a horse
-How to lead a horse
-Hoof care
-How to keep a horse out of your space
-Basic understanding of herd dynamics and body language
-Basic introduction to Natural horsemanship ground work
- Health requirements of a horse
- How to drench
- How to prepare your horse for farrier, dentist and vet
-Horse float safety

Green on Green makes black and blue. It's the old saying and it's very much true, beginners are attracted to cheap horses or young horses thinking they can learn together but this unfortunately leads to many injuries/ frustrations and result in people getting out of horses before they even start. I have recently been assisting a friend who purchased her first "beginner" horse after riding as a child at riding schools then having the money to do so as an adult. Fortunately he has a very kind nature but he turned up lame, undernourished and had worked out how to push against pressure and rode with his head up and threatened to buck due to pain in his back and hinds.

It's after this that I have decided to offer these sessions with well handled horses to give others a basic understanding of horses and learn from some of the mistakes we have all made.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Tays Neighs!

Tays Neighs was founded a few years ago when I was asked to use my horses as background cast on the movie set! Since then it has been running in the background used to assist me in selling my project horses and assisting friends and family with their horses as well as the occasional outside horse on their own properties. Unfortunately this all came to a halt due to covid and logistics of trying to handle green horses on properties without adequate facilities to manage them and the inconsistency of one off sessions to gain big changes in horses and humans.

Fast forward to today, we have now amazingly been given permission to utilise the facilities at this property which is Fantastic! So starting next week we will have our first outside horse in for training which is very exciting!!

My goal is to have a small number of horses through every year and to eventually have a horsemanship group set up to meet.... but shh more about that later ๐Ÿ˜‰
Lots of logistical and legal hurdles to jump through between now and then so strap in and get ready for the ride ๐Ÿคฃ

Thankyou again for all your support,
Remember to always be kind we are all learning!

Float loading!
We have all been there, going to get your horse ready for a lesson or event then can't load ๐Ÿ˜… float loading is about more then just dragging your horse in slamming shut the tail gate and tieing him in, then when you get to your destination swifty opening the back and standing out of the way as they run backwards to firm ground! Training is about breaking down each part of floating and working on each area until they are of quality ๐Ÿ‘Œ (this takes time some horses much longer then other especially if there has been a previous injury or catastrophic learning event)

1- The load, can you ask your horse to self load? Can you load them half way stop then continue to load? Can your horse load straight without running over the top of you?

2- Accepting the float, can your horse stand inside the float comfortably without the barricade closed and untied without wanting to leave? Are they happy to stand and eat comfortably or do they try run out at the first noise?

3- Unload, can you ask you horse to slowly come out of the float? Can you stop your horse halfway when unloading? Can you ask them back in when your halfway done unloading? If you open the tail gate can your horse wait to be asked to unload?

Float loading and travel has always been something that made me very nervous, growing up I always had difficulty asking my horses to load and it wasn't until after training challenging horses to load that I started to understand the breakdown and the importance of taking the time it takes. Now days float loading isn't an issue, my mare helps out my green project horses to feel more comfortable on the float, she can load by herself or I challenge her to load at the same time as another horse but I have confidence that when we go somewhere we can get home and I can do it all by myself as I am usually travelling alone.

Alittle snippet from Mr Major, This awsome boy was a project horse of mine who has since found a new home ๐Ÿ˜ major came to us completely unhandled and very sceptical of new things but he has always been a very clever horse and once he understands something is friendly he is not one to waste extra energy being worried about it.

This pretty guy was bought as a project and quite the project he was! Isn't he stunning. He showed natural jumping talent when we went to pick him up and he jumped straight out of the pen and ran away.... he was not keen on the idea of people and we had to use another horse to coach him onto the float (large 3 horse angle with no barricades and completely enclosed). It took a few days in the round yard and time sitting doing not much as well as some join up to get him to start showing some interest on his own terms. Here's alittle video of a breakthrough. (This is old footage this horse has since been sold on and is not doing Fantastic being ridden by a young girl out competing with his jumping skills)
