🥅If you haven’t got goals…what have you got? Wasted dreams!

💭 This years dreams for the Maniacal Monday Fooligans has been:

🤗Hurricane Harlee to relax in the student body
🤗Eega Keeva to play with toys in the student body
🤗Bonnie BonBon to play in the student body
🤗The Nelliephant to catch a thrown toy
🤗Buzzy Bee to catch a toy in the student body

🤔 Did you know that dogs - just like people - grow up and stop playing. Just like us, they can get too serious and forget how to have fun in a social setting.

🏃🏽 Instead the “game” becomes competitive, it s a serious business! Each loss builds stress, each win also builds stress. The game is a loosing job.

😱 This can look like fear, reactivity, anxiety, barking, pulling and all sorts of irregular behaviour patterns.

⚽️ In our hyper fast era, play is an old school long forgotten past time. It ain’t sexy, it aint polished, it looks clumsy. But it is FUUUUUN!!!!

🏆 We have hit all of our goals for the Monday Group this year! I am terribly proud of them and am stoked to have been able to watch these Finicky Fooligans grow into the Coasty Canines they’ve become!!!

💗 Love this video! Share it and tell everyone to play with their dogs more over Christmas!!!!

🧛‍♀️Team Kara has hit the Teenie stage

👿 What fun! 🤩

💃 Mum has been working are at building our safe and social skills. But we have plateaued.

🍪 By rewarding too often we can actually degrade the quality of the performance and cause frustration based problems.

🦷 Like the probe biting of the ankles in the 🎞️.

💥 With two snaps of the lead the team was back on track. The first snap was for the problematic behaviour. The second was to teach that the rule is a rule, not a fluke. After that…no more probe bites.

🧨 Little issues like this end up becoming massive problems. Jerking around on the lead, lunging at people, barking, jumping and biting are not social or safe behaviours. Our Canine Coasties need to be taught better.

💗 End result: We can walk next to another dog without looking like a German Shepherd…. Stoked!!

PS: You can achieve something like this through purely reinforcement also. Though it takes a skilled hand with great timing and powerfully charged reinforcement. 3 things most companion dogs do not have access too. You won’t get an inhibition to the bite, but you will get a different redirection behaviour. I am not prepared - in this instance - to spend months whittling away at something we resolve within a fraction of a session.

👹Maybe I’m wrong…but…not so far. Not in the holistic context of my lifestyle.

I allow stick chasing, even though I’ve seen dogs impale themselves on sharp sticks in the bush.

I promote risky play, letting my dogs jump high and climb like goats.

I give my dogs species appropriate left overs.

I let my dogs scent and race after food in communal settings.

I give my dogs long periods of getting no stimulation.

I take my dogs into the mouth of fear.

I will actively favour one dog over another.

I will let my dogs jump, bash and scratch me.

How then, do I not have anxious emotional wrecks?

Because:

Without joy, there is only despair
Without fear there is only anxiety
Without challenge there is only weakness
Without risk, there is no reward
Without reward there is only panic
Without variety there is only boredom
Without Life there is only Doom

I am a Professional with skills that have taken me a lifetime or two to learn and master. I do not play stuff around and find out. Instead I tweak and adjust.

What I can do, even with your dog, you may not be able to do. It should help to inspire action, provide relief and bring joy.

And it all starts with the fundamentals of knowing how to start, pause and stop behaviours.

💤 Please pick them up…Hanky Tanky has wore me out. He ain’t heavy 🎶 He’s my brother 😆

🧸 Play is extremely important for our young and old dogs alike. That’s why it’s an integral form of our enrichment plan.

🤯 Playing tug and fetch in a safe communal setting allows us to spike excitement through the Predatory sequence and maintain the rest of the class inna Social or Defensive mood without issue.

🛡️ Defences (Fight/Flight/Freeze/Appease) is critical to be able to work through in a fast social setting. The recovery and mindful interaction helps to promote improved thinking in scary situations at home.

🤗 Every student gets a little 1-1 after all the excitement, for some it can be scary, for some it can create feelings of FOMO or frustration, leading to anger. A hug helps to relieve and release those emotions and switch them back into a Social mood.

⭕️ Some students need to learn to let another take a turn, the Prey sequence is designed to be communal in function. We can’t have the creature teacher getting blind sided by opportunistic predators. We build play up over time. Giving each student experience.

🏖️ This is a reason why I advise staying away from busy and dense dog populations. Particularly at peak holiday times. There aren’t many places that teach these skills. And those that do…too many have a “let the dogs sort it out” mentality. 🥜 to that!

😆 Send ‘em home stoked, not smoked!

Keeva doesn’t like other dogs getting high speed. So we have been trying different strategies out this year and have found Premak to be the easiest for her.

✅✋There is no OFF-SEASON for ticks anymore.

🌳 I live next to a Wyrrabalong national park. It’s gorgeous. Full of wildlife and birds and other natives.

🐞 But we also get bugs, moths and other creepiest. TICKS are becoming more prevalent.

🌪️ You can remove them by twisting them 🆓. This is supposed to prevent further toxin release and remove the entire tick whilst alive and unharmed. Which is for your dogs benefit. Dine the chances of increased toxins and infections are reduced.

🧩 I’m worried about over-chemicaling my dogs, just like you. But the statistical shift seems to be towards monthly chew tablets…from my world view. This aint medical advice, I’m simply sharing what I do.

⚖️ My thinking is that monthly chews minimize the spike in medication and that makes me feel better ❤️‍🩹

🎬 Project Sonny Boy continues!

🚨 The boy who would pull like crazy? Lie down instead of go with? Drift off with the 🧚🏿‍♀️?

🕵️‍♂️Where did he go? I’m stuck with this imposter who does what he’s told and has a great time doing it! 😝

😵‍💫 There’s still some confusion there, the old habits still exist. But we are getting clearer brain-behaviour connection every session. He’s not just cute…he’s smart!
