It was a real pleasure learning about their individual personalities, and using lots of enrichment activities to keep them busy!

Sandy & Barney have let me look after them since Sunday.

It’s been very hot 🥵 at times even in rural NSW so plenty of water fun 💦 in the daytime & access to fresh drinking water at all times is paramount!

Their 10 sister chooks have continued laying eggs so it’s good to know they’re not stressed while their owner is away.

No new kids (goats) yet but the existing 3 are doing very well!!

Currently located in NSW, I am staying on hobby farms in between my casual retail work and embarking on the new, exciting path of early childhood care.

As an ex-Principal/teacher it’s important I keep busy in productive and worthwhile activities that bring me joy and satisfaction- as well as doing good for others!

These 4 bundles of joy were a great end to my time in the UK before heading back to NSW, Australia!

With different walking needs, I was happy to mix up their exercise routine to ensure each paw had the appropriate amount of steps each day… sometimes this meant 2-3 shorter walks on the warmer days.

One old girl was a little unsettled in the last 2 days and I made sure to keep in regular contact with the owner before they returned. After their regular check up, everything was ticked off.

For the next 2 weeks I’m lucky enough to be returning to look after 2 rescue cats in North-East London.
These two very quickly let me know they’d adopted me until their owner returns!
They’re pretty chilled and occasionally playful. With their own cat door they’re low maintenance too.

We’ve managed lots of short bursts of activity morning, noon and night as I use the nearby forest that is always cool!

Did you know that a dog’s sense of smell can be tens of thousands times stronger than ours?!

They gain so much information that there are dogs who are specially trained to detect when a person with epilepsy is about to fit, or a person with diabetes going into hypo or hyper. And of course we are all familiar with their skills in drugs and bomb detection at airports, in the army and so on.

Dogs are even being used in workplaces and schools because of how healing and calming they can be. I digress…

All of this official work takes a great deal of training.
However, incorporating a ‘sniff or smell walk’ for your pets can be a really fun and stimulating part of their day.

During sits, if I’m not doing puppy massage, or reading, I often play ‘Hide and Treat’ with dogs using small pieces of peeled apple or a healthy liver treat… Especially if they haven’t been able to get out with bad weather or for other reasons ... It’s best to play this game in an area that’s free from parasites so the kitchen works a bit better than the garden.

Want to know my previous experience? Absolutely I would love to share stories during massage and strokes if you want that sort of thing.
