Happy Tuesday π
Today's grooms
Two Border Collies, a Cavoodle, a Japanese Chin, a Miniature Schnauzer, a West Highland White Terrier & another Cavoodle
This 9 month old border collie was given to her new owners only last Friday. Gidget had never left the farm, was very, very timid and scared. After she came in, we let her settle in for about 30-45 minutes before we started her groom, a bath & blowdry. This absolutely helped her get used to the noises of the salon, blowdryer, and going up and down of the grooming table.
Also, our own pup Bagel likes to help settle anxious dogs. What dogs can do to help each other in certain situations, we humans might not.
We won't rush any job, and always advocate for the animals' welfare and try to make the groom as less stressful as possible.
We, therefore, do not appreciate it, if we are being rushed by owners π
Sheepadoodle Holly
(Old English Sheepdog/Poodle) was in for her second groom. Just a tidy up today. Beautiful pup π€
The shorter part on her front leg is from an IV after desexing.
Meet my little friend π¦
He's crate trained too πGood that Pretzel isn't here today π«£
So satisfying, a de-shed on Golden Retriever Rambo yesterday πΆ
No appointments available this week, and limited next week.
* THE SALON WILL BE CLOSED FROM MONDAY 26TH JUNE AND REOPEN FRIDAY JULY 7**
Why do some people think we can have a dog done (fullgroom, bath-blowdry, nailtrim and finish clip) in an hours time?! π
If they think it shouldn't take us any longer, they should try it themself ππ
When the Salon turns in a "doggy day care" π
Some explanation how we rock 'n roll at our grooming salon.
We, Jo and I Dani, usually have multiple dogs come in on a day. Anywhere between 4 and 14 dogs can be in at one time. This because we try to start with checking in dogs as early as 8am. Some go home fairly quick if they're only a beauty bath or nail trim, but most stay several hours, and meanwhile new dogs come in, and others waiting for pick up which sometimes doesnt happen as soon as the dog is finished.
Why we do it like this? If we work only on one dog at a time, with then a maximum of 6/8 dogs a day, our waiting time would be way over 4 weeks. The demand is extremely high, so this is for us the best way to get our clients in within 2 weeks. We also have bathers on busy days to take some of the workload off of us.
All the dogs who come in go into the bathing room first. Most dogs get bathed and blow-died before clipping, unless it's a clip off of a double coated dog. They will be clipped off first.
All dogs who arrive at the Salon will go in a crate/cage. Why?
To keep all dogs safe from escaping, to keep them safe from each other, as not all dogs are dog friendly, to keep us safe of not tripping over dogs and to avoid them going to the toilet everywhere!
Some young or old dogs don't cope with the blow drier, so they go into drying cages. Dog friendly cages with fans to dry the coats without stressing out the dog.
We finish clip/scissor every dog after the bath therefore all coats have to be fully dry to finish the dog as good as we can.
We have had clients come in and worry that their dog has to go in a crate, but there's nothing cruel about that. At the vets all dogs go in crates/cages too if they are booked for surgery or emergency admission.
Below my (Dani) new 9 week old pup, being crate trained already at the breeder, no issues with the noise. This is amazing, isn't it? No stress whatsoever ever, just a calm safe place to call " second home" π
This is one of Jo's pups. Seven weeks old and feeling safe and enjoying the comb, as it is part of his normality.. The desensitising starts prior to their new home, however, fear not, this process can be started when your puppy comes to you, if it hasn't already been started. It takes time, routine and patience, but is easy to achieve!
We are happy to help and give you any advice to help you in this process. ππ
