I have such spoilt babies.
Everyone in the pen recieved a warm cooked dinner...
Cooked rice with last night's discarded roast & pan juices, boiled up with vegie scraps & a sprinkle of grits & charcoal.
The lady's get this type of dinner (and breakfast) a few times a week.
As well as their daily mixed blend seeds, bread, and pellets.

Happy hens, lay happy eggs ❤️

Busy girls, despite the chilly weather and shorter days.

I have a dozen silkie eggs avaliable, and almost another dozen in just a few days.
Fertility is high, from 2 dozen we currently have incubating (that dated over 20 days pre incubation). All but 3 eggs have taken. 2 of these, from the same hen, who had just started laying, her very first 2 eggs!
Pretty good odds!

25 clucks for the dozen.

Fertile silkie eggs now available. White rooster over partridge, white and blueTwenty five clucks a doz.

Meet Smore's.
This man was such an ugly duckling, who was never going to be kept, as a cross breed rooster his future looked grim.
However what Smores lacked in the genetic gene pool, he showed in temperament.

I've kept chooks and chickens since I was 4 years old. Tried and tested so many breeds, and I've seen many roosters in the flock kept for looks, but then after time having dominance turning nasty, and having to be culled off. But not smores.
He is the most gentle, placid, and friendly man.
I've had countless people message me to comment on chick's, and their temperament. Saying they've never had chick's before that have such a laid back 'do anything' personality.
He's certainly no pure breed superstar.
But he does win over everyone's hearts with his kind and gentle nature and friendly personality.

Marshmallow always insists on laying her eggs Under the clucky hens 🤦‍♀️
Amazingly, Big Red was more than happy to have some company on her 21 day incubation holiday, she even raises her wing for her feathers friend to lay under her.

Sent a message in regards to a few eggs to pop under 'Big Red', to swap around some genetics while she's broody, and got handed 1 egg short of 3 dozen.

Big Red, missed out this time, but hopefully will still be broody come hatching time.
I'm suspecting loosing a heap, as the shells are quite thin, but still worth a gamble.
The count down is on.
Fingers crossed 🤞
