So hi everyone!
It’s been a while since we updated, and there’s been a reason for that. Sadly we’ve lost a lot of piggies over the last few months, mostly due to genetic mutations (particularly satin syndrome) that the start of colder weather has exacerbated. We’ve ended up spending thousands of dollars on vet bills trying our best to treat the problems and manage it all, but for many of our piggies the dental or bone problems were too great which lead to extreme weight loss and in the end it was kinder to put them down. It’s been an incredibly sad time for us to watch our babies go downhill and have to make these choices.
But it has taught us lessons. Many, many hard lessons. And we now have to make the difficult decision of whether we continue to accept rescue pigs, knowing that we could be taking on unseen potential for health issues from irresponsible breeding & unknown genetics.
In any case, we’re relieved that all of our remaining herd are healthy & happy and enjoying lots of treats & love.
Elijah & Sue
Xx
