Shedding is a natural event in the life of every cat. By shedding, cats replenish their coat and maintain it in a good condition. Shedding is most likely to be affected by the changing of seasons, but if your cat loses excess hair; you should visit a veterinarian. However, even if your cat experiences normal hair loss, it’s helpful to know ways to keep shedding under control.

We’re now offering de-shed spa package and we recommend doing it for twice a year. This process would help to remove as much as shedding hairs undercoat for your cats.

We offer two main options for cat’s hair grooming:

🐱Maintaince Trim: trimming underbelly, underarms, and around neck area to avoid messy hairs and matted hairs from licking. Not touching body hair

🐱Summer lion cut and teddy bear cut: body clipping length 1.2mm for lion cut and 4 to 5mm for teddy bear

We don’t do shaving which we think that are not good for our cats. They need fur to keep them warm and comfortable and also to protect their skin.

What Does a Cat's Tongue Look Like?

Cat tongues look almost furry with the naked eye. But instead of hair, their tongues are covered in hundreds of tiny, backward-facing spines called papillae, says Laura Moon, DVM, of Green Hills Veterinary Clinic in Moberly, Mo. These sharp, scoop-shaped papillae are hollow and composed of rigid keratin, a hardened protein found in human hair and nails and in animal claws, horns, and hooves.

Interestingly, these papillae are something your cat has in common with his larger, wilder cousins. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) scans show similar structures across the tongues of domestic cats, bobcats, cougars, snow leopards, tigers, and lions.

How to pet a cat?

Everyone loves to stroke cats. They are big-soft-purring-furballs. Nothing beats their cuteness. But be careful, one does not stroke a cat like that. There are untold rules passed down from cat generation to cat generation. General information are to be taken in consideration if you want to pet your cat. They vary on how much they like interactions. Although some desire attention, others don’t. Thus, how cats physically interact with one another teach us a lot.

1. Understand cats body language:

Cats use their body to communicate. So if you can decipher their body language, and respond accordingly, it is like talking cat. Pay particular attention to their tail moves, and also to their ears and all the communication signs from their body. Besides, the fact you can actually understand your cat’s body language will give your cat more confidence.

2. Pay attention to the signs of a happy cat

The most common way for a cat to express they are content is purring. However, sometimes it can also express pain, or stress. In that case, it is important to look for other signs to make sure the cat is content. If the cat is kneading while purring, then you can be sure the cat is really delighted. For more information, see signs of a happy cat. Understanding a happy cat is great, but it is even better if you can respond accordingly. For example, your tone of voice is important, so talk slowly and gently to your cat. You can take advantage of cats’ guilty pleasure and give them treats, or play with your cat. They associate it with positive feelings. Take our quiz to check how happy is your cat.

1. They Help Cats Groom Themselves

The papillae on a cat's tongue have two hollow regions that aid in grooming. The region at the tip is for wicking saliva from the mouth and depositing it deep into the cat's fur, and the flexible hollow base makes it easier to remove hairs that have gotten caught on the tongue. In other words, your cat's tongue is like a built-in, highly sophisticated comb.

Grooming serves many purposes, which is why cats spend nearly a quarter of their waking hours engaged in the task. Noel and Hu note that regular grooming is helpful in removing fleas, debris, and loose hairs, which can prevent the formation of painful mats and tangles that can lead to infection.

2. They Help Cats Cool Down

The ability of the papillae to deposit saliva deep into a cat's coat isn't just helpful for bathing—it's also an ingenious tool for thermoregulation, or helping cats maintain their body temperature. Because felines only have sweat glands in their paws, grooming has long been suspected as a mechanism for cooling cats down. They found that papillae-facilitated saliva deposits close to a cat's skin can provide up to 25 percent of the cooling he needs for thermoregulation.

3. They Help Cats Eat Meat

Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they rely on animal proteins for the nutrition they need to survive. Given the importance of meat in their diet, it's not surprising that a cat's hook-like papillae are useful in both gripping and shredding meat. This revelation might make you think twice about letting your cat lick your hand, but as long as your digits aren't made of raw meat, you should come out unscathed!

Where is the best place to pet a cat?

Most of our feline friends love rubs around the head. When cats are rubbing their face on a person, it is another sign of cat happiness. Giving more opportunities to rub their face is one way to respond. It is even possible to try and stroke the cat. It is better to try stroking cats on the head first, and then to try other parts. Usually, cats like to be pet on their head: under the chin and on the cheek, where the glands are. Even though other cats may like to be stroked on their back up to the tail, you will need to adapt to each cat individually.

One of most common causes of pet stress and anxiety is change. Cats get used to routines and a certain environment, and when that changes, it can be a difficult adjustment for many cats. Our pets are also very good at picking up cues from their humans. This means if you’re stressed out and worried, your pet could pick up on that too.

Pet anxiety comes in a variety of forms, but here are some common things that could be red flags:

😼Incessant meowing
😼Catt being glued to you while you are trying to work
😼Pets misbehaving while you are on a call
😼Pets fighting with each other
😼Pets wanting to play constantly

How can you help with your cat’s stress?

1. Set a new normal
Cats appreciate routine. If possible, keep the same feeding schedule you had before the routine changed. Then set new routines for other activities and stick to them. For example, maybe you set up some play-time at lunch. Try to keep a routine when it comes to your solo activities as well. Take any short breaks and your lunch break at consistent times every day. Doing this will help your pets set expectations about your own behaviour.

2. Activity
Plan activities for your cat. Since they’re not used to you being home during the week, take a couple of breaks specifically to focus on them and give them some attention. For the rest of the day, get a nice toy to keep them occupied. Taking an outdoor break for some vigorous exercise right before an important virtual meeting call could help wear them out so they settle down. This means less distracting behaviour from your pets on conference calls! (Not to mention a boost in energy for yourself!)

3. Take some time for yourself
Don’t forget to take care of yourself as well. That means clearing your head and keeping your own anxiety and stress down. Take a break from social media and news.

If you are the first time cat owner and nobody tells you this, I hope you know it by now that brushing is an important duty. Brushing your cats helps remove dead hair and fur, and can even lessen the number of hairballs your cat expels. Daily brushing will dramatically cut down on the amount of loose hair and cat dander floating around the home. So, if you see so many cat hairs flying around your home travelling to your food, your makeup, your eyes, that means you did not do your duty hard enough :)

However, even with daily brushing, it is impossible for you to take our all the dead hair. The reason is because cat hair has two layers. The undercoat hair is harder to be reached. This is the reason why you should bring your cat to our spa on a regular basic every 12 weeks, so that we can do the undercoat removal for him.

Fleas, mites, lice, and ticks are parasites that may lead to bald spots and sores. If you’ve had fleas, you know: they’re a huge pain, causing crusty red bumps, intense itching, and hair loss. Fleas are common, don’t be so stress about it. It can happen to indoor cats and more often for outdoor cats. Starting since your cat is at wee kitten age, do the monthly fleas and ticks treatment. We recommend using the Revolution Plus as we have been trying different brands to come to the conclusion of Revolution Plus is a trusted one. Getting rid of fleas can be a daunting task as it takes patience.

Cats shed when they are stressed just like us we lose hair when we are stressed. You might need to pay more attention to him at home. Despite how independent and cool our cats are, they are babies! They need love and your attention to live a stress free life. Also, it might come from the environment changes if any. Cats are super delicate. Any small changes can make them nervous. Even going to the spa experience can be intimidating to them at first. That is the reason why we take 3-4 hour for the spa per cat because we don’t want our babies to be stressful!

Myth: my cats hair feel so soft, they don’t need any coat treatment.
Actually your cats’ coat can be even softer with regular bath spa routine.

Ok let me ask you this: you have a beautiful skin, do you need to go for spa and skincare treatment? Yes right?! Even more so because you need to maintain your beautiful skin and plus spa time is always a happy time for yourself. Same to your fur babies!

Bathing your cats helps them remove all the dirt, saliva, excess oils and dander which will leave their coat smelling wonderful and looking sleek and shiny. Your cats will even shed less from regular brushing!

We use coat serum to apply after bathing and before drying step to give an extra treatment for smooth and shiny coat.

Also more importantly, a regular grooming routine can help check your feline for any skin problems, fleas & ticks, or physical abnormalities.

How long is our spa session? Average 2 hours per cat!

Yes, because we take every step very thoroughly. The spa package includes bathing & gentle box dry, a**l gland, ears cleaned, eyes cleaned, nails trimmed, belly and hygiene area trimmed, undercoat removal, skin & coat serum.

The steps that take most of the time is drying and undercoat removal. For drying, we use cat drying box with a noise of 50-65 decibels which is similar to the noise of a printer. For undercoat removal, unlike the brushing process you perform at home, we take about 40-45 mins to remove completely all undercoat with our specialised undercoat tool. Undercoat removal is very important step to help her shred less and maintain a more healthy coat.

Cats are very delicate. Thus we do not believe that a pet salon mixing cats and dogs is a good idea. Cats are very cautious when seeing other cats, let alone dogs. We want to create a safe environment where your cats are comfortable to enjoy her pampered time. We know that the first time to the spa can be intimidating for your cat, and we are doing our best to be selective so that we can give her the best experience for her first time.

There are many inquiries from dog owners for our spa. In fact, it is true that dogs need a more regular spa routine than that of a cat. But we think there is no pet salons in Melbourne that cater only for cats while our dog friends have quite a few options. That is why we are here for you, cat parents!

We recommend that you take your cat for a spa bath on a regular basic of every 6 to 8 WEEKS.

When should you start a spa routine for your kitten?

Let grooming be an enjoyable and comfortable experience for your cat by introducing grooming interactions when she is still a wee kitten. This makes her grow up accustomed to the feeling of being brushed and petted. You don’t necessarily have to start off by immediately giving kitty a full-on grooming session (full body grooming). Start of slow with our spa package that includes bath, gentle dry, coat brushing, nails clipping, ears cleaning, and coat serum.

Cats love sunbathing. Just like dark-haired humans find that the sun bleaches and lightens their hair, your cats’ fur will change shade due to prolonged sun exposure. This is most noticeable in black cats, who will turn a rusty color.

This is due to melanin, which is found organically in a cat’s body. It’s a genetic inheritance from a cat’s parentage. Eumelanin provides black or dark brown fur, while pheomelanin creates red and orange shades.

Melanin isn’t purely aesthetic as it also protects a cat’s delicate skin from being burned by the sun. Unfortunately, UV rays destroy melanin, causing a cat’s fur shade to lighten.

At XMMO Cat Hotel and Spa, we use coat protection spray at one of our very last steps in the spa bath routine to provide our cats with extra protection against UV rays. Just like you, we love our cats because of their beautiful coats. Taking an excellent care of their beautiful coat and maintain their coat health is everything.

Fleas are the most common external parasite found on cats. These pests can be found in most parts of the country, and even the most pampered pets sometimes find themselves with unwelcome hitchhikers.
While a flea and tick medication recommended by your vet can help keep your pet pest-free, a trip to the pet salon & spa can be an important step in solving a flea problem. More importantly, cats that go on a regular spa routine will not have flea problem because groomers are often experts at finding fleas and performing “flea funerals.”
Tiny and fast moving, it’s entirely possible for your cat to have fleas that you don’t know about. During a thorough grooming or spa session, an experienced pet stylist will be able to check out every part of your cats’ body while they wash, dry and brush your pet. If there are fleas, they will see them.
First, we choose a flea shampoo that will eliminate fleas while gently cleaning the cat’s skin and coat. We will begin by wetting and then shampooing the cat’s neck, so that any fleas that try to escape the washing process by hiding on the head are caught before they can take refuge in the pet’s eyes, ears, nostrils and lip folds. Once the neck is treated, the rest of the body is saturated with the shampoo.
Then we will brush and comb through your pet’s coat to eliminate hidden remaining fleas. This step is also to massage their body to get rid of itchiness caused by the fleas. The last step is to apply the topical solution Revolution plus on their neck.
Based on our experience, we’ve chosen Revolution Plus as our trusted brand to use for treating cats’ flea, ticks, and heartworms. Compared to other brands such as Advocate, Revolution Plus is alcohol-based so it is quickly dry. Our naughty cats will have no time trying to lick it off. While Advocate only controls adult fleas, Revolution Plus kills adult fleas, fleas egg, and flea larvae.

There’s a common misconception that shorthaired cats, with their much, much shorter fur, don’t need grooming because short hair = low maintenance. True, their short coats don’t require daily grooming like longhaired cats. And cats, being perfectly capable of grooming themselves (their bodies are designed to bend at impossible angles so that kitty may lick themselves clean in hard-to-reach areas) are able to keep their short fur relatively clean.
But believe it or not, the fur of shorthaired cats is just as susceptible to matting as longhaired cats so a proper and regular grooming session should be in order!

Even though shorthaired cats don’t usually get tangles in their fur, they can still benefit from the occasional cat bath! Bathing your cat helps her to remove all the dirt, saliva, excess oils and dander which will leave her coat smelling wonderful and looking sleek and shiny. Your cat will even shed less from regular brushing!

There are even some shorthaired cat breeds that even though yes, their fur is short (duh), it is still pretty dense so a regular bath would be very helpful in reducing hairballs, preventing matting and decreasing shedding.

Plus, there’s really no harm in grooming your cat. Also a regular grooming routine can help check your feline for any skin problems or physical abnormalities.
