We are reaching out for some help. Unfortunately, here at Billie's Mission, we have had a very tough week. 💔

As you know, we are a small rescue, primarily run by just the two of us, with a lot of help from some amazing volunteers and foster carers.

One of our founders was broken into this week, their home ransacked and many expensive and personal items stolen and damaged.

As if this wasn't devastating enough, they also stole over $1000 of Billie's Mission cash we were about to deposit from a recent BBQ fundraiser. They stole our Etfpos machine and even some handmade earrings we had been donated to sell to raise funds. This is so heartbreaking when we work so hard at these events, every dollar is valuable in a rescue.

We are incredibly grateful that a friend/supporter of the rescue has donated us a sum of money which has taken away some of the stress we were facing.

We would love to sell some raffle tickets to help us put toward a number of upcoming surgeries we have and to assist with the financial loss.

Meet Margaret, an early senior lady who is looking for a place where she can retire, relax and reinvent her lifestyle, centred around herself (and her family). 🐈😻

She is a confident girl who will happily follow you around the house, keeping you company. Margaret is certainly a four paws on the floor type of girl, and will ensure you know when she needs a moment to herself. She's very honest and open like that❣️

Don't be fooled though, when that burst of energy comes, she has to partake in those zoomies across the floor to keep herself nimble and sprightly🏍😼. This is particularly the case when making the bed. She must inspect those sheets on a daily basis to ensure you are staying on top of your chores👀!

Margaret came into care after she was found wandering a little lost on the streets. We were contacted by a local clinic after her family decided not to pick her up, instead opting for her to be rehomed.

Unfortunately for this gorgeous girl, it isn't her first time being without a home, having had a different family again when she was very very young, and ending up in a similar situation.

Our mission is to find her a home that understands every cat, no matter what age they are, deserves a family that loves them from their first to last day💜. Margaret will need a patient home without any other animals or young children. An experienced cat owner would be preferred, with the awareness that although Margaret wants to be near you, she is not always in the mood for cuddles or socialisation (how many of us can relate to that!).

Meet Truffles!🍫

Truffles arrived in care with her six little babies after being left to fend for themselves. Truffles has been an amazing mum, with her babies now grown and finding their homes. Truffles of course, now also wishes to find her own home with her very own family.💕

Truffles is one of the sweetest cats you’ll meet, happy to sit and watch you do your daily chores, patiently waiting for her pats. She will rub up in between your legs and is more than willing to sit with you of an evening and watch your favourite TV shows.

She isn’t needy and doesn’t ask for much, except for all the love you can possibly spare of course. Truffles is friendly around other cats in the home, so if you are already a feline household, this would suit her fine.🐈

Cats and Christmas Trees. The eternal battle!🐈🎄
Here are some of our best tips for keeping your cat, your decorations and your sanity safe! 🎊

🎄Secure your tree: Use a sturdy base or anchor to prevent a toppling tree if your cat decides to climb. 🎄
⛄️Skip the tinsel: Whilst tinsel looks great and certainly livens up your tree, it can be very dangerous if ingested. Consider skipping this festive decoration. ⛄️
⚠️Keep cords covered: Use cord protectors where possible to prevent your cats from chewing⚠️
🪅Cat safe ornaments: Place more fragile or smaller decorations higher up on the tree, and utilise 'shatterproof' ornaments down the bottom🪅
❄️Avoid toxic add-ons: Skip any artificial additives such as fake snow❄️
🎁Presents: Don't leave anything edible under the tree, even if it's wrapped! 🎁

🚨 Tick Season🚨

With the warmer and wet weather, the risk of your dog or cat suffering from a paralysis tick bite has significantly increased! On many occassions a bite from a paralysis tick can require life-saving interventions including administering tick antiserum and mechanical ventilation 😿 Many vet clinics in South East Qld have seen a rise in unprotected and sick pets caused by tick bites. Now is the time to keep our furry friends safe by checking they are up to date with tick preventatives‼️

How to protect your pet:
💊 Tick Prevention Treatments: Consult with your vet about the most effective tick prevention options for your pet’s needs, particularly if you’re travelling to high-risk regions.
🩺Know the symptoms: Weakness or wobbly walking, collapse, vomiting or retching, difficulty breathing, sudden changes in behaviour.
🕵️ Daily Tick Checks: After any outdoor adventures, inspect your pet’s skin daily, especially around the head, neck, and ears, as ticks often attach in these areas.
🌿Keep Your Yard Tidy: Mow the lawn regularly, clear out tall grass, and create a tick-safe zone to minimize exposure.

‼️PARVOVIRUS OUTBREAK IN SE QLD‼️

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is issuing a critical alert to pet owners in South East Queensland regarding a significant outbreak of canine parvovirus (CPV) affecting the region.

-Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious, potentially fatal viral disease that affects dogs.
- It is spread through contact with contaminated faeces.
- especially dangerous for puppies and unvaccinated dogs aged six weeks to six months.
- It is preventable with VACCINATION

COMMON SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:
❌️ Severe, bloody diarrhoea
❌ ️Vomiting
❌ ️Lethargy and weakness
❌ ️Loss of appetite
❌ ️Fever

If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms, isolate them immediately and seek veterinarian care.

How gorgeous is little Dove? 🕊

Dove is a playful and affectionate little kitten who loves to explore his surroundings. He enjoys chasing after feather toys and playing with his siblings, but he also has a sweet side and loves to curl up in your lap for cuddles. His gentle disposition makes him a perfect companion for both children and adults.

Rosemary's herbs🪴 & spices🌶

Coming into care at under a week old, Rosemary's babies are all thriving and so close to finding their forever homes! Over the next 2-3 weeks these little ones will be desexed, vaccinated and microchipped in preparation of entering the big wide world. They have grown into such perfect little kittens, although we do feel for their foster carer having to clean up after nine of them, plus mumma! What a feat!!! 🤩🥳

We've been overwhelmed with enquiries for these little ones already, and although we are not accepting any further applications for these kitties at this time, keep an eye out for a couple of upcoming events where some of our little herbs and spices may feature👀. If you come along, you might just find and fall in love with your newest furry family member 😻

Of course, our biggest shout out goes to the beautiful Rosemary for gifting us these little ones. She will also be on the hunt for her own home, having done a great job raising this gorgeous family. Mum's of litters are often the last to find their happily ever after, but we are determined for Rosemary to find her own family as soon as her babies do ❣️

We can't wait to update you all with pictures of their happy endings! 🐈🥰🙌
