Cautionary Tale: What NOT to Do When Buying a British Bulldog Puppy

As a breeder committed to producing the healthiest British Bulldogs, I’ve seen far too many people make heartbreaking mistakes when choosing a puppy. If you want to avoid costly regrets, DO NOT make these mistakes:

❌ DO NOT look for the cheapest puppy. Quality breeding comes at a cost, and cheap usually means cutting corners on health and care.

❌ DO NOT buy based on colour alone. A flashy coat won’t mean much if the dog suffers from serious health problems. Health and temperament should always come first.

❌ DO NOT say you want "pet papers" but plan to breed "just one litter." Ethical breeders do not support casual or uninformed breeding—it’s irresponsible and can lead to health issues in future generations.

❌ DO NOT ask a reputable breeder to match the price of a cheap Gumtree puppy. High-quality breeding involves genetic testing, health screening, and responsible rearing—none of which come cheap.

❌ DO NOT assume that just because a breeder is registered, they breed healthy dogs. Many registered breeders still cut corners on health testing and breeding ethics. Always ask for proof of health testing.

❌ DO NOT buy a cheap puppy and then complain when it needs expensive surgeries. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is—vet bills for poorly bred Bulldogs can cost you far more in the long run.

❌ DO NOT take your Bulldog to the cheapest vet who lacks experience with brachycephalic breeds. Bulldogs require specialists who understand their unique anatomy and medical needs—choosing the wrong vet can be a dangerous mistake.

Remember:

💡 You ALWAYS get what you pay for. Investing in a well-bred, health-tested Bulldog now will save you heartache and thousands in vet bills later. Choose wisely!
