About that time of year again! ❤️
Hi all!
Just wanted to post a quick little PSA as I’ve seen an abundance of posts over the reptile groups of late around feeding and the appropriate sized food items for your new antaresia family members!
Rule of thumb, the food item should be 1.5-2x bigger than the thickest part of the snakes body, when you can no longer see a noticeable bulge after feeding, it’s time to move up!
A pink mouse has minimal nutritional value and aside from when the snake is just too small to take anything else, they should really be feeding on larger prey items with fur & fully calcified bones to ensure they’re getting to most nutrients they can from each feed!
When purchasing a hatchling from either a breeder directly or pet store it’s important to ensure the snake has had a minimum of 10+ feeds and they will generally either already be on fuzzy mice when leaving their breeder or will be ready to move up in a few feeds time.
(For larger species of snakes such as carpets, olives etc, expect them to be feeding on rats rather than mice or quite a large mouse even as a youngster)
If anyone has any questions around feeding or you’re just not 100% sure and would like a second opinion please reach out I’m always happy to help 🐍🐭
