Hello and welcome to the blog! Here at BBequines, I believe that the relationship you have with your horse should be at the centre of all your training.

To me, it should be a relationship of mutual trust and respect, where both human and horse are listened to. Quite often building this relationship involves slowing down and simply noticing. BBequines is a horse training blog where you will find lots of training tips on building an equal partnership with your equine friend, advice on how to start building a relationship with your horse and tips on

A scary morning for Mr Harry today 🩵
Harry has been out on lease to a lovely girl and her mum at my yard for the past few weeks while I’ve been moving homes. This morning, I got a call saying Harry was stuck in the creek and was not in a good way. Fire brigades, vets and some very brave people later, Harry was dragged out. My poor boy was in shock and shivering.
Besides a few cuts, some stiffness and being very stinky and dirty, he is doing well. Very grateful to have such a kind, good natured horse who knew people were trying to help him.
As you can see in the second picture, he is back to his cheeky little self 🥰♥️

We did a touch of groundwork this morning which was lovely- it was so nice to just spend a bit of time with Harry now that I’m almost over my cold and feeling better! 💪 Definitely need to get some more groundwork done this week and get this mane sorted out 🙈

A lesson I’m learning just now is accepting the horse I have today, the one that is in front of me this very moment. Not expecting the one I had yesterday or 6 months ago.
As Harry has come back into work, I’ve been subconsciously expecting him to go as well as he did back before he went into the vet, and not only is it unrealistic but it’s unfair on where he’s at today 🩵
He went really well this morning for the most part, and we’re building more trot as the days go on, it’s slow progress but it’s progress 😊

A little nostalgic this morning trying out my new Acorn Bridle on Harry. I had bought this back in 2020 for Bo and loved it, and now, in 2024 I’ve got Harry his own one and we started our transition to bitless today. It was a little rocky and all over the place, but I reckon that’s because Harry is weak, unfit and has the training level for general riding of a four year old. I’m very much treating him like such even though he is 9 because he’s just so behind on everything, bless him. He adjusted well though and I loved the feeling of these reins back in my hands ♥️
We also did our first trot in three months which was super babyish but one step at a time 🩵

Day 1!
Harry has not been ridden in 2 months and I haven’t ridden in this time either, I definitely lost my bottle a bit but I just got on and he was great. We’re only allowed to walk at the moment but I was happy with that! Baby steps ♥️

Harry has a temperament that is just golden, he always does his best, tries so hard not to make mistakes and to make your life easy, he even knocks over his bucket with his expensive feed in it to share with the rooster 🐔 how selfless, even when we’re trying to get the weight on him he feels the need to share😇😂

The boy has had a good first week back out of the vet, still got a long way to go but we’re regaining some weight and he’s enjoying being out and free again with his friends 😊

Harry got his surgery today to remove the cancer from his eye and it has apparently gone well, never managed a visit tonight as feeding this guy and his friends, can we just appreciate how beautiful River is😍

This poor boy is desperate to come home! He’ll not be out for at least another week now. Apparently he has improved 50-60% from the new treatment which started on Tuesday so hoping there will be even more improvement come the end of the week 💪

Things have taken a step or two backwards in Harry’s progress.. they were improving but as of yesterday, the treatment on his eye stopped working and made it worse, now he’s on an alternative treatment every 2 hours 😔 they’re thinking it’s a fungal infection. Fingers crossed things improve and stay that way!

Poor Harry is fed up being at the vet I think, made me feel extra bad for leaving him! 🥺

Had to leave this brave boy at the equine hospital this afternoon. Harry has had a runny eye for some time though in the last week or so it has gotten steadily worse. The tests today showed he has some cancer on his third eyelid but this is unrelated to the inflammation issue, so more tests need to be done to get to the root of it all, hoping they find out what it is quickly. Just a waiting game now 🤷🏼‍♀️
