🐝Native bees for Alexander Clark Park

Yesterday I met with Ocean from Urban Native Bees and Council's parks team to find suitable locations within Alexander Clark Park to put a few native bee hives.

The park is a great location for these stingless bees and a great opportunity to educate the community about the importance of bees in the local eco system.

I look forward to seeing them installed along with wildlife boxes along the pathway to help support the beautiful wildlife we are so fortunate to have this wonderful park.

What an amazing and busy day today at LEAF!

What a mess! The brood had fallen into the pit from being disturbed some time before all the rain. Unfortunately water had also gotten in and flooded some of the brood. Tetragonula hockingsi rescue. Not all hives are big and strong. After care is extremely important after a rescue and will continue for months and months after you remove a hive from its location. Once you have rescued a hive it is your responsibility to ensure they thrive. Stepping in when needed is imperative and if you don't know how you shouldn't be attempting to rescue.
