Suspect your pet has eaten rat bait? Act fast, it could save their life.

Here’s what to do:
1️⃣ Call your nearest emergency vet hospital immediately.
2️⃣ Bring any bait packaging or product info.
3️⃣ Keep your pet calm and quiet.
4️⃣ Do NOT induce vomiting or give home remedies.
5️⃣ Don’t wait for symptoms, some poisons take time to show but act fast internally.

Even if your pet seems fine, urgent treatment can prevent serious complications.

One Blood Donation. Three Lives Saved. ❤️

When a dog donates blood, the impact is powerful, just one donation can help save up to three other pets in need.

From trauma and surgery to snake bites and serious illness, blood transfusions are often the critical turning point.

It’s one of the most meaningful ways a healthy dog can help another.

Could your pet have eaten rat bait? Here’s what to watch for.

Even small amounts of rat bait can cause serious internal bleeding in dogs and cats, often days after ingestion. Early signs might be subtle, but they can quickly become life threatening.

Common symptoms include:
🔸 Pale gums
🔸 Lethargy or weakness
🔸 Coughing or laboured breathing
🔸 Bleeding from nose or gums
🔸 Vomiting or diarrhoea (with or without blood)
🔸 Bruising or swollen abdomen

If you notice these signs, especially after known or possible bait exposure, seek emergency care immediately.

At AES Jindalee we have been inundated with stray cats & kittens. We do our best to work with the public, council and local foster groups to reunite them with their owners or find their forever homes, however this can mean they stay in our clinic for a very long time. When adopting a cat, please ensure they are microchipped so if they go missing, we can reunite you with your best friend a lot easier 🐈

Did you know dogs have blood types too? 🐶🩸

Just like people, dogs have different blood types—more than a dozen, in fact. Most pet owners don’t know their dog’s type—and that’s okay. But in a veterinary emergency, it can be lifesaving.

Every donation helps give critically ill pets a second chance at life.

Curious about how canine blood donation works?

Could Your Dog Be a Lifesaver? 🐶🩸

Just like in human medicine, blood donations can be life-saving for pets in emergencies—from snake bites to surgeries, trauma to disease. But here’s something many don’t know: pet blood can only be stored for about a month.

That means we rely on a community of healthy, happy dogs to help us deliver this critical care—when every second counts.

Does your dog:
✔ Weigh 25kg or more
✔ Fall between 1–8 years of age
✔ Have a calm, friendly nature
✔ Stay up to date with vaccinations and preventatives?

If so, they might just have what it takes to become a donor hero. 🦸🐶

🚨 Bessie’s Story: A Reminder About the Risks of Stick Play

This is Bessie - a brave and resilient pup who recently presented to our Tanawha hospital after a traumatic stick injury. While chasing a stick, Bessie ran onto it with force. The stick entered through the back of her mouth, narrowly missed her chest, and almost exited through the side of her neck.

Thanks to the rapid response from her family and the expertise of our emergency team, Bessie received prompt surgical care and is now recovering well. 💪🐾

This case is a powerful reminder:
🪵 Stick play can lead to serious, even life-threatening injuries. Please consider safer alternatives when playing fetch with your dog.

We’re proud of our Animal Emergency Service Tanawha team for delivering compassionate expertise during a very confronting emergency - and grateful to Bessie’s family for trusting us in such a critical moment.
