End of Life
One (1) week after doing this interview - this happened.

In the early hours of Sunday, 14th September, Graham and I were faced with one of the hardest decisions of our lives — saying goodbye to our beautiful girl, Mona-Lisa.

Graham was woken suddenly when she experienced what we can only describe as a seizure. It was completely unexpected; nothing in the days, weeks, or months before had suggested anything was wrong. By the time we reached the emergency clinic at Samford, she was already under a lot of stress.

Her vitals showed nothing unusual, yet while we were there, she had another small seizure and was clearly not herself. The vets explained that to find the cause, Mona-Lisa would need an MRI and likely further tests. We knew in our hearts this wasn’t something we wanted to put her through, and the kindest choice was to let her go peacefully. We believe what happened was neurological.

Mona-Lisa had lived a chemical-free life — she wasn’t on any chemical products at all — and she remained her authentic self until the end.

She was an interesting soul, a girl who valued her space but also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: outings, car rides, morning cuddles, and snuggles before bed. She was happy doing her own thing, yet she always shared her presence in a way that made our home feel full.

We will miss her dearly, but we have no regrets. We know in our hearts it was the right thing to do.

We stayed with her until the very end — talking, giggling, and telling her how much we loved her. Her passing was peaceful, and she left this world surrounded by love.

CURVING

I am looking for some wonderful examples of dogs curving, either in video or photo format.
Permission must be given to be shared with the PDTE - Pet Dog Trainers of Europe

This may be dogs or humans curving.

"Curving is when a dog approaches another dog, animal, or person in an arc instead of moving directly head-on. It’s part of their natural communication system—used to signal friendliness, avoid confrontation, and show they mean no harm.

Humans often walk in straight lines and approach directly, which can feel intense or threatening to dogs. By curving, dogs create space, soften the interaction, and reduce tension. You’ll often see it when dogs greet each other at the park, or when a dog approaches a person they’re unsure of.

I had a lovely session with Sid today. He enjoyed his little outing, sniffing around and exploring, as well as Applied Zoopharmacognosy - self-selection in the Healing Hut. He is such a beautiful little boy.
Unfortunately, he has a few little issues we are dealing with. Heal by Choice - Nature's Pharmacy allows him to choose the oils he needs and, more importantly, how much, how often, by inhalation, orally or topically.
Check out my course online. It will help you understand why this is so important and how you can help your canine companion.

Welcome to my beautiful Healing Hut.
Time slows down. This space is for deep connection and healing.

Whether it’s a behaviour consultation or an Applied Zoopharmacognosy session, being here makes the experience truly special—for you and your dog.

The Healing Hut is more than a room, it’s a place where trust, choice, and transformation naturally unfold. 💜

Fear of the Dentist vs. Fear in dogs

Anticipation and Triggers
Humans at the Dentist:
Even before sitting in the chair, many people feel dread simply from the thought, the smell, the sound of the drill, or even the memory of a past painful visit.
Dog: Similarly, a dog’s fear can surface long before anything “bad” happens. For example, the sight of a leash (if it predicts something scary), a vet clinic smell, or even footsteps approaching may set off anxiety.
In both cases, the fear is triggered not by what is happening in the moment, but by what the individual anticipates will happen.

Loss of Control
Humans at the Dentist: You’re asked to lie down and open your mouth. Instruments and fingers invade your space. Even if nothing hurts, you’re not in control, and that loss of autonomy magnifies fear.
Dog: A fearful dog often feels trapped—on a lead, in a waiting room, or cornered by a stranger. Being unable to escape is just as terrifying as the situation itself.

Fear often escalates when escape or choice is removed.

Physical Reactions
Human: Sweaty palms, racing heart, shallow breathing, muscle tension. Some even shake, feel sick and cry.
Dog: Panting, trembling, tucked tail, 'Calming Signals' pinned ears, dilated pupils, freezing or lunging.

The body speaks fear in all languages.

Trust and Safety
Human: If the dentist explains clearly and is gentle, trust builds and fear may lessen.
Dog: If the human respects signals, slows down, and allows choice (sniffing, moving away, approaching in their own time), the dog begins to feel safer and more able to cope.

Kindness, empathy and choice  reduce fear whether you’re in the dentist’s chair or on four paws.

Aftereffects
(Vets and Dentists are necessary)
Human: A bad dental experience can make you avoid appointments for years.
Dog: A traumatic experience can cause fear of all clinics, or even someone in a white coat.

Fear leaves lasting imprints if not handled with care

Fear is universal. Whether it’s a human anticipating the dentist’s drill or a dog anticipating restraint.

The biology, psychology, and emotional experience are deeply similar.

Both crave safety, choice, and reassurance.
