Bernedale Kennels, Saint Bernards of Supreme Quality.

Bernedale Kennels, Saint Bernards of Supreme Quality. BERNEDALE KENNELS:- Australia's Inaugural Master Breeders of Quality Saint Bernard's! Together they imported many Saints, from Europe and also the USA.

Founded in New Zealand in 1989, Bernedale Kennels was influenced with the wonderful import Saints from Brit Marit Halverson's Bernegardens Kennels of Norway.
1998 saw Jim jump the Tasman and relocate in Victoria, Australia. Bernedale continued with the amalgamation of Debbi and John Egglestone's Bronbashei Kennels. After the turn of the century further success was embraced, with credit now being g

iven to the influence of both Stoans and Cache Retreat Kennels, from the USA.

2002 saw Tess join us at Bernedale:- thus the introduction of Clumber Spaniel's and in 2007 we welcomed our first Clumber Spaniel litter. Saint Bernard's and Clumber Spaniels continued to dominate our lives, with much success in the show ring and joy in our home. Debbi's early passing in 2009 left a huge dent, her knowledge, expertise and keen eye for a good Saint or Clumber was invaluable. In 2010 the majority of the Bernedale Saints were living in Queensland. Having had numerous Bernedale Saints campaigned in Qld over the past 15 years, in 2013 Bernedale transferred their Kennel to Queensland in partnership with Frank and Lesley Newman. Saint Bernard's having always been the primary breed, were once again the only breed focused on. Jim and John, together with Lesley and Frank, continue Debbi's dream! Bernedale:- Simply the Best.

Our beautiful Miss Annabelle, another half year closer to turning 11.
To date she is coping well with Winter, still able to get up and about by herself, still quite vocal and has the respect of all except Pearl and Ursula, who would love to climb all over her and would literally annoy the hell out of her if they could!
So we endeavour to keep them well away from her!
Unfortunately, for her own well being against our energetic and enthusiastic youngsters, Annabelle does not have her mother’s sassy disposition!
Miss Polly was the best ‘teacher’ we ever had here and her stern growl in her twilight years alerted any young puppies to stay well out of her way, but Annabelle is too soft and gentle to growl at any.
We so miss our ‘Poll Poll’ and never realised how much we relied on her to not only teach the puppies good manners, but also to pull juveniles into line when they started to get a bit too big for their boots; Polly had the ability to ‘call the shots’ and a few days in solitary with Polly put everyone on equal footing.
We are thankful for every day we still get to share with Annabelle, she may not have her mother’s growl in her, but she is still our blessing that her mother left us with, our Maeson dog Grand daughter and a Great Grand daughter of my much loved Joanie Mae.❤️

After days of free runnng inside, our little girls are slowly learning house manners and their boundaries.
Miss Ursula has taken to the comforts of a bed just like our oldies, but Miss Pearl has shown a preference for the floor boards, so today I thought we would confine her to teach her of the comforts that are available to her here.
At first we received the look of horror, like Mum, what are we doing in here?
Miss Ursula tried to get her sister to give in, and with some gentle kisses she won her over to her ways.
Half an hour later and flat out on her back, Miss Pearl was certainly very relaxed.

With Willie gone, we have had a move around today!
All our puppy runs have been cleaned out and closed to be rested, hoping time will regenerate some of that worn out grass, even though Winter will not give us any favours in doing so.
The girls have both been moved into the very end run, which gives them a lot more space as it has a side yard that runs off it also, and as long as they stay respectful to each other in their play they can stay together. They also have an adjoining area where they can meet up with our oldies, who I know are grateful to see those bars separating them.
Poor old Annabelle now nearly 11 has little tolerance for nipping puppies and sadly is not as agile as she would like to be to easily escape them.

Willie left us this morning! 🥲
He has gone to a beautiful home, his human Dadda’s Grandmother was a Saint breeder herself many years ago, so he grew up having a love for our gentle giants; and his human Mumma has been familiar with giant breeds also.
Another bitter sweet moment for us, Willie was a delight to live with and one my heart told me we should have kept ourselves, but we can’t keep them all.
