The Aquarist Chronicles: Things every fish tank keeper has (or inevitably will) experience. Only once you have completed everything on this list you can call yourself a true aquarist 😜

1. A taste (or mouthful) of tank water 🤢

2. Unintentional flooding

3. A fish that mysteriously disappears for a long time and you assume the worst. Only for it to casually show up and act like nothing happened

4. A camera-shy fish that knows you’re trying to take a photo

5. Telling oneself that one tank is enough

6. Telling oneself maybe just one more fish 🐠

7. A fish that dramatically plays dead, only to jet away at the speed of sound when you prod it

8. A fish that gains ninja-like evasion skills and dodges your every move when you’re trying to catch it. Sometimes you have no choice but to tear the whole tank down

9. The Algae Hall Of Fame: i.e. black beard, hair, brown, green film, green spot, green water cyanobacteria. Extra bragging rights if you've battled them all! 🏆

10. That divine sensation when you successfully breed your fish for the first time. Bow down, mere mortals!

What ever emotions or hardships we have faced, the aquarium hobby is still worthwhile to us.

Did we miss any? Feel free to add to the list

Meet Mr Hoser,

Mr Hoser runs a number of organisations including the Snake Man ®️ and Snakebusters®️. Mr Hoser is “very litigious” according to The Age Newspaper (2023) but we need to actually take a stand for the sake of our animals. Without our voices nothing will change.

Mr Hoser, according to his website, has a hands on reptile encounter service which is available to hire for events such as children’s birthday parties, adult parties or educational sessions at child care care centres and schools.

These events includes display of venomous snakes being handled. The reason they can be handled is some of the snakes are classed as risk free. That simply means, the snake may have undergone “de venomising”

“De vemonising” is removing a snakes venom glands in an elective surgery after being refrigerated for up to an hour and attached to a plank of wood with restraints. This is not done under anaesthetic and Mr Hoser is not a qualified veterinarian. (An image of the process is in the comments of this post or visit http://www.smuggled.com/VenArt1p.htm )

Some of these poor animals have since had " silicon implants" for appearance sake.

Join us in condemning this horrid exploitation of animals by letting others know just in case the consider having such a party. There are plenty of amazing wildlife demonstrators to choose out there who don't mutilate the animals in their care. You are also welcome to give the company feedback on their enquiry lines or website.
