It is important to read labels of the commercial food. If your pets react to commercial pet food with constant intestinal inflammation check if carrageenan is one of the ingredients. It potentially can cause intestinal disturbances. Carrageenan is not harmful in diets with plant based protein.

How impactful all his research has been and how enormously fortunate we are to have a vet with a PhD in vegan dog nutrition Prof Andrew Knight acting as a voice for the voiceless. His published studies give us all such hope for our future and the future health of our dogs (and our planet)💚

" The research looking at diets fed to 2,639 dogs concluded that the healthiest and least hazardous diets for dogs are nutritionally sound vegan diets"
- Andrew Knight Vet and Professor of Animal Welfare and Ethics

PS: Prof Andrew Knight's groundbreaking research paper made headline news around the world exactly 2 years ago and the impact of his studies has been immense and really disrupted the pet food industry for good!

Buddy is a medical experimentation survivor. Scientists used his body for 8 years. I don't know what was done to him. Most people don't. Two years ago I met Buddy for the first time around Christmas and I made him a promise – we would change the laws so that dogs like him had to be given the chance to find a loving home instead of killed in animal research. And guess what? Those laws are now in place.

For you Buddy- and every other fur baby 🐶

Our Story

As a practicing Veterinarian, I have clients continuously approaching me with one common question: "what is the best diet for my pet?"

Eating properly is an important part of health, however, the necessity of proper diet is commonly dismissed in veterinary practice. The type of diet plan that veterinarians suggest tends to be influenced by the commercial pet food industry. However, pet food sold on the market has many undesirable additives and processing methods. Due to this, there has been an increase in the number of pet owners who are developing home-made meals for their pets to avoid the additives and preservatives found in most commercial food. Raw feeding has also gained popularity amongst pet owners.

Home prepared diets have been extremely useful in some health conditions, particularly in managing adverse food reactions, and at times is the only option for animals with multiple medical conditions. Unfortunately, a home-made diet that is under-researched or produced without the necessary education received in a Veterinary degree can be very dangerous (this is another reason Veterinarians recommend commercial food – to prevent pet owners making their own pet food that lacks a vital nutrient/mineral or exceeds the required amount).

This page will provide clinically valid nutritional advice based on my extensive knowledge as a Veterinarian. I have spent five years working exclusively as a small animal nutritionist in the commercial pet food industry, prior to this I attained a Masters in Animal Nutrition. Furthermore, I have spent 15 years working as a practicing vet in small animal medicine and surgery. I also have a diploma in Chinese Medicine which I use when working in the field of alternative medicine for pets.
