Lucky to have plenty of space to get young horses out of the arena to have good miles
This lovely Clydesdale yearling is here for some pre training. It is super important in all young horses but especially bigger breed horses that they have plenty of handling when young, so that when it comes time to break them in it’s easier on them and on your trainer!
The key with young horses is to keep your lessons short!
Learning on the ground!
I strongly believe in plenty of ground work, where it is safe for the horse and the trainer, also not rushing! It is easier to spend a few extra days preventing a problem rather than trying to fix one 🐴

Had time to have a little play with one of my own horses yesterday this was his first time with out a bridle ❤️🐴
It’s crucial that horses understand that just because you are moving doesn’t mean they can walk off. One of the biggest issues I find with retrain horses is that they have no patience and have never been taught the difference of someone fidgeting in the saddle and someone asking them to walk off.. which then leads to people being frustrated with their horse because they won’t stand still while they are in a line at a show or while they are trying to talk to someone or while they try open gates, it’s a very important lesson to teach a horse.. 🐴🐴
This horse goes home this Saturday after being started here 5 weeks ago he has come a very long way, he was a very unsettled horse when he came I also had lots of trouble with him throwing his head around and carrying it to high, but now that he understands he has a job he is very settled and willing to start learning. 🐴🐴
Manners is something I find very important to instill in all the breakers and trainers that come here, such as walking a safe distance next to or behind me and not pushing or rushing, standing still when tied up and left alone, being patient on the ground and also when you ride them. This discipline doesn’t mean the horse will end up not liking you, if you set solid boundaries it means he or she should look at you for leadership and guidance ultimately making a better team 🐴
All breakers are given lots of life experience when they come to get started, to prepare them for anything that might arise when they go home. Here is one of the breakers getting use to having a flag on him, if he can handle this he will be fine with jackets, plastic bags things blowing underneath him bunting at shows ect..
I am currently fully booked out for the remainder of 2017! So am now taking bookings for 2018! Please book in advance to secure your spot.
Here is a video of "happy" one of my first breakers to do professionally this is right before she went home after 4 weeks, being ridden with out a bridle 🐴
