Information that is blindingly obvious to any dog trainer or behaviourist. So why do so many people insist on using harnesses rather than a simple slip lead or flat collar? Marketing at its best. Don’t be a victim of the con. Save your harness for use in the car.

Dogs generally pull about 60 per cent harder on a leash when wearing a padded harness compared with a collar, even when the equipment is marketed as “anti pull” – putting the people walking them at risk of injury.

Some dogs – especially smaller breeds – pull with a force more than twice their body weight on the collar, potentially damaging their throats, says Erin Perry at Southern Illinois University.

“It’s really very shocking,” she says. “The dogs are almost choking themselves on that collar repeatedly. But the harnesses in our study just didn’t inhibit pulling in any way, and that’s definitely a wake-up call – especially because of the risk to owners.”

We have seen two dogs recently suffering from tick paralysis - one of whom sadly didn't make it. Both were unprotected, relying on 'natural' solutions.

I'm sorry, but the risks to your dogs are too great to rely on unproven methods, chanting, healing crystals or pseudoscience.

Please speak to your vet and use a proper tick preventative treatment this tick season. Before it's too late.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

Enrol now for our snake avoidance courses in early 2025. Last scheduled courses of the season - spaces are now extremely limited. Don't miss out!

This essential and informative flagship course is one of those we are most proud of. The number of dogs we have helped save from deadly encounters with venomous snakes (and the number of beautiful native snakes we have saved from deadly encounters with dogs) is testament to the effectiveness of this training program. Not to mention, the amount of heartache and $$$s we have helped save owners too!

Most course participants have already had an (expensive and stressful) close encounter, and tell us they wish they had attended this course sooner!

We have just 18 spots remaining this season - so to avoid disappointment and reduce the risk of a fatal encounter this summer visit https://www.padfoot.com.au/events-and-clinics/dog-snake-avoidance-training-classes to secure your spot today!
