A really weird thing happened last night here in Perth…. Wet stuff fell from the sky, I think it’s called rain 😱 🤣

Anyway, as we move closer to winter hopefully we get more of it but please… if it looks like it’s going to rain overnight or the morning of your saddle fit PLEASE rug your horse or put it in a stable so it is dry and cleanish for its fitting.

It is very difficult to feel along your horses back and under their saddle if they are wet and it cant be comfortablele for them either if they have wet sand scrubbed into their coats from being a mud pig overnight 🐴🐷.

Im totally cool if you like your horse living its best naked life out in the paddock every other day and night of the year ✌️ just not on a rainy night before its saddle fitting if possible.

Dry and mud free is how I like em 😝

Saddle fitting booking times…

Things are getting pretty flat out at the moment so please do not leave booking your saddle fits until the last minute.

Current wait times are about 2 - 3 weeks even if you come to me in the Swan Valley for your fitting.

As magical as Admin Mel is, she can not add extra hours to the day or days to the week.. 😰

Me - Cool, we have extra time. I’ve just postponed the next two clients. It’s not a great day to try new saddle on baby warmbloods.

Lucky for the emergency indoor arena being on hand before this doozy of a storm hit today ⛈️🤣

Video in comments… I missed the lightening hitting the paddocks just outside the arena 🫣🫣

The poor horse was exceptionally well behaved considering the noise, wind, rain, thunder and lightening all around.

We waited it out then got on with the job without any issues 👌

What happens when a group of people work together to achieve a common goal…. 👇🏻👇🏻

There are a lot of long hot days spent out saddle fitting, it can be mentally and physically taxing… But, days like today make every single second of it worthwhile.

After 11 hours straight saddle fitting in the heat and humidity and 3 hours into a 4.5 hour drive home I’m still buzzing from this pony and her owner and their long journey.

A little of the back story… I met this pony about 15 months ago. Another professional was treating her and asked for my opinion on its saddle fit.

A quick check of her saddle and it was not a great fit - Too narrow in the gullet, too long in the seat and panels, too flat and broad in the tree and it was sliding forward and bridging.
She was not a very happy pony 😖

The owner spent the next 12 months doing all she could to get her beautiful pony happy, comfortable and pain free, employing professional to help treat, rehab and strengthen her back again.

3 months ago it was finally time to try out some saddles and we managed to find one that was pretty good.. it needed a few alterations to be perfect but the owner trusted in me and the process and we set about getting the saddle ordered.

I took a full set of back measurements and tracings and sent them off to the crew at Horseland Midland who arranged for this girls Albion Fabrento CC Dressage saddle to be made.

Today was the day we got to see the result! MANY hours later I still have that warm fuzzy feeling of sitting the saddle on and seeing perfection 👌

I don’t think there have been too many days that have pasted in the last 3 months I haven’t thought about this pony and her owners journey, hoping the unicorn saddle would work so she could get back to enjoying riding again.

Seeing how happy the owner and pony were today was simply amazing and heart warming. Her commitment in time, effort, expense, blood sweat and I’m sure a few tears to her pony is admirable.
I live for work days like this!!

I can’t wait to see their progress over the coming months 👏🏼

Anyway, enough of the warm and fuzzy stuff, I’ve got a bit of driving still to do but the joy of today will make the time fly by!

Why do I encourage all my clients with saddles that have screw in/screw out gullet system to have a couple of gullets (usually one size either side of their last fitting) of their own to bring to saddle fit appointments?

1 - To save $ buying plates if they have the size they need stashed in their tack room and not with them..

2 - This is the number of gullets I pack, trying to be relatively conservative, for a 2 day country trip with over 20 horses booked in. And I still don’t have every single style, series or width of gullet packed 😳

So, if you’re going to your appointment, grab any spare gullets you have for your saddle and take them along 👌
