I get it, a majority of kids love to jump. I do too. I look forward to my weekly jump schooling session and competitions. Jumping is part of the motivation, for me, that goes into flat-work.

What I struggle with is the kids who who jump everyday, any-day. Whats more infuriating is the parents that encourage it.

A pony or a horse only has so many jumps in its life. A pony is not built or bred to be jumped everyday. Especially now that we are in the middle of summer, the ground is rock hard.

I just have to go on social media and witness the daily array of photos and videos of kids jumping their ponies. Day after day.

There are three reasons why as a general rule, my horses are limited to jump schooling one to two times a week.
-The basics. Limiting my jump schooling sessions encourages me to focus on the flatwork. anyone who had me as a coach will have heard me say, 'jumping is just flatwork over sticks'. One wise coach taught me this years ago. 99% of the issues I have jumping can be corrected by going back to the flatwork.
-Injury prevention. Horses are not designed to jump and jump and jump everyday. You risk lameness and the potential of a pony 'breaking down'. The impact of daily jumping is increased when the ground gets rock hard, like right now.
-Boredom. My horses love to jump. Just like humans horses get bored of doing the same thing again and again and again. Every week my horses routine is a mixture of hacking, flat-work, fitness work (especially Hippo), and jump schooling.

To the parents, this is your job to educate your kid. And its starts right at the beginning when they are learning to jump. Its saying 'No, the pony has jumped enough', when they plead to keep on going. Its your job to listen to the coaches when they say enough jumping. Its your job to teach your kid about the idea of quality jumping over quantity jumping.

A horse/pony only has a limited number of jumps. If for nothing else then the sake of the horse think quality of quantity, less jumping better jumping.

The boys finally had some time to start on the arena. Cleaning up around & dragging in the sides. Lots to do still (the list is long) as some jobs get ticked off we find more πŸ™„

The new deck is the next bigger job once all the paddocks are finished

21/10/2022

Looking forward to 2023! We will have new paddocks :) so will open up for more agistment. It will be run a little different but full board with access to stables when needed. We still offer under cover float parking & full board only with full use of facilities...lots of changes & improvements ...exciting

BORR WORK STOPS AFTER POSSUM DEATH | Clearing on the Bunbury Outer Ring Road ground to a halt for two days this week after a possum was injured during clearing on Monday.

It's understood a critically endangered western ringtail possum was in a deep hollow in a tree being felled at the construction site in Gelorup.

A Main Roads spokesman said a vet assisted, but "sadly, the animal subsequently died from its injuries."

The spokesman said all procedures were followed and regulators informed.

"Clearing was halted for several days while an investigation was undertaken," he said.

"Main Roads and the Alliance followed all conditions required under our management plans and did everything possible to ensure the safety of the possum.

"We are investigating additional solutions to support the western ringtail possum going forward."

It's understood the possum was among those tagged with a radio collar, as part of a monitoring project. Main Roads has said the study has full ethical approval - and it takes animal welfare extremely seriously.

Main Roads said clearing work for the $1.25 billion road resumed late Thursday.

We have had the last 12 months off to relax, enjoy living here and make some improvements. Looking forward to 2022

We are setting up our stables with rubber flooring and this will be completed Nov 2021 for short term injury boxing. Previously wasn't viable with cement floors but with rubber & pine bedding we can now accommodate :).

Round yard should be finally completed end of 2021 :) We have worked without a base for far to long!

Thank you so much Lee & Bronte we will all miss you very much & beautiful Angel. From us all at Elite xx
