🌟 Meet Dakota Beattie – Senior Veterinary Nurse at Vet Cross! 🌟

Dakota first joined Vet Cross as a locum in August 2023 for what was meant to be a short three-month stint… but after a few returns, she just couldn’t stay away! We’re so glad she’s now a valued permanent member of our team. 💙

With eight years of experience in veterinary nursing, Dakota has a special passion for emergency, critical care, and surgical nursing. She holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, is a Registered Veterinary Nurse, and has completed advanced ECC and triage training. She thrives in the fast-paced environment of surgery and loves mentoring junior nurses, helping them grow their confidence and skills. 🩺🐾

Outside of the clinic, Dakota enjoys snowboarding, camping, travelling, and soaking up the sun at the beach. She’s from Hervey Bay and shares her home with Queenie—her much-loved foster fail from Red Collar Rescue. 🐶💕

Help us give Dakota a big shoutout in the comments below! 👇

🐂 Bull Testing – Safeguarding Fertility & Herd Performance 🐂

During their breeding life, bulls have a huge impact on herd productivity and genetic gain. That’s why regular bull evaluations are so important.

At Vet Cross, Dr Andrew Marland and our veterinary team provide Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluations (VBBSE) to give producers confidence in their sires. These assessments check:
✔️ Physical health & structure
✔️ Reproductive tract
✔️ Semen quality & morphology
✔️ Serving ability

By testing your bulls before breeding season, you reduce the risk of sub-fertility, improve herd performance, and protect your business’s bottom line.

🌟 Meet Dr Tomas Richards – Veterinarian at Vet Cross! 🌟

Dr Tomas graduated from James Cook University in 2018 and since then has gained a wealth of experience working across Australia—from busy emergency hospitals to rural mixed practice clinics. In fact, Vet Cross is where Tomas first began his veterinary career, and we’re so excited to have him back on the team! 🐶🐴🐾

With over six years in the industry, Tomas enjoys the variety that mixed practice brings. He has completed further training in emergency medicine through the University of Sydney and is now expanding his focus into surgery and orthopaedics—where his skill and precision really shine. ✨🩺

Outside of the clinic, Tomas loves spending time adventuring, surfing, and camping with his wife and young son. He and his family are grateful for the warm welcome back into the Vet Cross community and are proud to call Bundaberg home. 💙

Make sure to say hi next time you see Dr Tomas in the clinic! 👋

Lilies, tulips, daffodils, and even certain fertilisers can be harmful if your pet takes a bite. Many popular spring plants and products are toxic to cats and dogs, even small amounts can cause serious illness.

If you’re gardening or bringing flowers inside this season, take a moment to double-check they’re pet-safe. A little precaution goes a long way in keeping your pet out of the emergency room.

If your pet has nibbled on something they shouldn’t have, contact us right away on (07) 4151 5044.
