So it is Christmas time again.

1. Non stop carols in the shops with staff singing along quietly since they hear them incessantly. (Drives them mad). You even find yourself secretly humming the tune of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, by the time you leave to go home.

2. Hot weather storms, hail and the probable cyclone. Insurance companies nightmare! Your premiums will go up next year whether it hailed at your place or not.

3. Busy at the shops, where agitated people (women mostly) are spending their money to buy a year’s worth of groceries because the shops are shut for ONE day. Hope they didn’t forget the apple sauce!

4. People in your street start putting up Christmas decorations and you haven’t even seen them at Bunnings or Choice so with much guilt you dash around throwing a few over the flora in your yard and the front gate. Ours are outstanding this year.
Felicity Broadbent has excelled at the art of outside Christmas decorations.

5. You wander the aisles looking for that present under $15 for the work Christmas party. Hopefully, what you get in return is something that can be recycled next year.

6. The letter box fills up with junk mail hoping to tempt us to buy something we haven’t even heard of, have no use for and can’t afford.

7. This is my favourite.
None of your friends send them anymore but you won’t miss out because……
The Christmas cards in your letterbox are from your local politicians (yes plural). Haven’t set eyes on one of these elusive characters all year. Even when you make a complaint you get the soothing email saying, “ my office will look into this”. Beautiful photos of them playing Happy Families.

8. School holiday time.
Mum and Dad still have to work so older kids often left to their own devices. Lots of prepubescent young people parading up and down shopping centre malls with various tattoos, piercings and damn ugly make up. Usually, in brief attire because it is so bloody hot here at Christmas. Lucky they can. Not sure my 70 year old breasts would look half as good.

9. Real estate agents are knocking on your door because “this is the BEST time to be selling.” All the southerners head up here in droves to escape the “unseasonal “ weather (snow) in Tassie and that one below NSW! Like you need to be worrying about staging your house for inspections when you have 20 adults and 35 children relatives arriving in less than 20 days time.

10. You have been cleaning your house like you are going to rid the place of the devil. Cleaning windows, Venetians, floors, vacuum under every piece of removable furniture, rugs, dusting those parts that only get dusted when “ we have visitors coming for Christmas”. Yes, John Broadbent retreats to the safety of his shed.

11. Then there are the pets. In our case, Winnie the cat. Every morning i come out to the living room to to be met with the carnage of a once very beautifully decorated Christmas tree thanks to Felicity Broadbent.

12. The joy of grandchildren at Christmas never fades.
They are so excited going to bed Christmas Eve with much anticipation. Snacks are left out for Santa and the reindeer. Stockings are waiting to be touched by the magic of Santa. In the morning, their angelic faces are soon transformed into the look of wonder at the beautiful gifts their parents, Ma and Pa and aunties and uncles have lovingly bought or made for them.

This, of course, is all a bit tongue in cheek but I did think the absolute Magic of Christmas needed mentioning and sharing.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a SAFE and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR to ALL our family and friends. We look forward to catching up with you next year, if we missed you this year.

I have just celebrated 40 years as being a Marriage Celebrant. What a journey it has been. Absolutely, the best passion to have, being a Celebrant. I have totally had the most fulfilled years doing this.

There have been many extra special moments that are indelibly written on my brain. Mostly just beautiful but some very funny and some sad ones, as well. A few thousand ceremonies to reflect on!

As I turn the pages of my registers, I can usually remember something about each, like when the best man fainted and fell on me or, when the best man’s wife went to kiss the groom in his white suit, before the ceremony, missed and landed the red lipstick on the shoulder of his white jacket. Then there was the bride who called me outside to the limo when she changed her mind and told me I had to tell the guests. No, I said, I will go in and get your mother and she can tell them!! Then another was the bride’s mother wanted the certificate so she could tear it up!!

Some of you have shared part of this journey with me when I was your Celebrant. Thank you for sharing a very special part of your lives with me.

A few things that come to mind are, it is true it is never plain sailing to work with animals and small children!!
I always trusted the weather never really thought of Plan B is it rained and, all but about 10 of my brides, had sunshine on their wedding day.

Make sure you always attend your children’s wedding day. Especially the ceremony. Put aside your differences with former spouse, family and friends and put on your big girl/boy pants and front up as expected. And smile 😀 for the camera.

Talking of cameras, particularly when wedding group photos are being taken, I would say to guests, “If you can’t see the camera, the camera can’t see you”. Unless you want to hide!!😃

My plan is to keep my registration for another four or five years then maybe hang up my shingle. There are a couple of people I am waiting for, that have booked me before they have picked the bride or groom!!

Thank you all for your help and support over the last 40 years, especially my beautiful, patient husband John Broadbent and my wonderful children. They were the ones sometimes didn’t have Mum at a soccer game or violin recital because I was off “marrying people“.

Now the rush on Valentines Day weddings has passed, some people are looking at lucky date combinations like 23/06/23, 23/11/23 etc.

23/12/23 is getting more than its share of air play. Not too late to book any date or especially the date and the year 23 combinations, starting from 23/04/23.

If you are interested in any of these dates, give me a call, text or email.
In June, I will have attained 40 years as a Celebrant. It was been one of the most rewarding tasks I have ever done. Being a Celebrant is my passion, not a job. I know some prefer a younger Celebrant and I understand that, but I am always excited to share the wealth of knowledge I have gathered over the last 40 years with all couples who seek my services,

Last weekend I had the honour and privilege of being the Celebrant for Mr and Mrs James Duff. Hayley Duff (Fraser) was a regular visitor to our home when she was young. Our kids and the Fraser kids peddled up and down Geoghegan Road, almost daily to play together. Makes my heart glad to see Hayley as a beautiful Bride and sharing her happiness and zest for life with adoring husband James.

Congratulations Ann and Gill, Hayley is a wonderful, considerate and strong woman you have raised. No doubt you are looking forward to the future of having grandchildren to care for and cuddle.

Approximately 11 years ago, I had the pleasure of being Celebrant for younger sister Lauren and husband Jesse. Good to catch up with them. Now they have two beautiful boys who keep them busy. Lauren did a most wonderful job of doing table setting, place cards, flowers etc to make sure her beautiful sister had a perfect day.

Weddings where all the family get involved with wedding preparations, helps the family form a strong bond. Lots of love was felt and makes for a wonderful day.

The magical photos James and Hayley had taken post ceremony, at Moorelands Bush Nursery, with a stunning Roma red sunset for their backdrop, are something they will have to treasure forever.

Am putting it out there that I am keen to get back on the “busy” wedding trail. Keep me in mind if you are having a wedding or if any of your family are planning and need a Celebrant.

After over two years of down time, I have decided to relaunch my Celebrant business. The idea was Celebrancy was going to be my hobby in retirement. Unfortunately, other activities and obligations got in the way.

Now I can see the clear path to me doing something I am MOST passionate about…..being a Celebrant.

I have done almost 3,000 weddings since I was first appointed. Sometimes it was hectic and crazy times. All the time, I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the lives of every couple I have married.

I can look back through my record books and think of something nostalgic or funny that happened at almost every marriage union I officiated at. Such a privilege!❤️

Yes, lots of wonderful memories being surrounded by the love, couples and their families have for each other. Managing families where there was disharmony became an area of expertise for me!

As I step out again in my Marriage Celebrant Hat👒, I look forward to meeting couples wishing to be married, with the view to guiding them through the excitement of planning their beautiful ceremony.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like an obligation free consultation with me.

Thank you to the many families, in the past, who have trusted me to be their Celebrant. It has been an honour and privilege, I have never taken lightly.

This weekend have a wedding for my beautiful couple Rachael and Joe. So excited!
They are looking forward to the fact they will be able to have 40 people dance at their wedding.
You see, Rachael is blind and she loves music and dancing. And what a wonderful way for her and Joe to celebrate the start of their married life together.
First dancing permitted wedding since the Covid restrictions!
Should be fun for Rachael, Joe and their family and friends.

I hope all our beautiful brides and handsome grooms are staying safe in this crisis.

Maybe a good time to get married if you want a fuss free ceremony with just yourselves and two witnesses.

This lockdown makes weddings affordable and free of people you feel obligated to invite. Almost like a destination wedding on your own turf!!

Very distressing, of course, for those who have prepared for and paid deposits, on the full bridal experience. I would hope venues and suppliers are being as charitable as possible. So far my couples are all good.

It is certainly unusual times and sending best wishes to all planning a 2021 wedding. Let me know if you are interested in having an obligation free consultation to plan your Great Day.

A couple of weeks ago I was back in Roma, doing what I love most in the world ......being a Marriage Celebrant. Roma is where I first started being a Celebrant in June 1983.

I was honoured that Kurt and Jess Rowbotham invited me to be their Celebrant and share this Special Occasion with them. Thank you Kurt and Jess. It was a magical day and you are both beautiful people whom we all love. Best wishes for a wonderful life together. You have so much love to give one another. It will be an amazing journey for you.

A funny twist to the occasion was that the parents of the Best Man (Hobbsy) were there. They mentioned to John that I had done their wedding 34 years ago in Surat. We had a lovely catch up with Anita and Peter at the amazing wedding reception.

Thank you to our dear friends John and Trish Rowbotham for hosting us.

Every year Celebrants have to complete 5 hours of formal training approved by the Attorney Generals Dept.

Yesterday, 18 very dedicated Celebrants met at Samford to learn share and talk with like minded people. It was a wonderful day led by our great tutor and friend Karen Faa.

We had an interesting segment on being a funeral Celebrant. There was a great deal of real life experience information sharing particularly from Karen, Anna Staines and Carolyn Symes.

Carolyn Symes has been a Funeral Celebrant for more than 20 years and much of the information, ideas and important rituals she passed on to us is invaluable to anyone who is interested in being a Celebrant. As well as the information was generally interesting. Thank you Carolyn. I highly recommend her for your future needs!!

Thank you to all who attended and made it such a great day.

So yesterday I was honoured to be the Celebrant for the beautiful soul whom we have known as Cherelle Martin but now Pollard.
She and her soulmate Adam vowed to love each other and take care of one another in their future lives together. They have already been doing this for five years but yesterday they affirmed these promises in the company of their family and those with of us who are friends. It was a beautiful moment we got to share.
Cherelle was a picture of serenity as she entered the chapel on the arm of her Dad, and biggest supporter, at Cobaki Lakes. There were misty eyes all around.
This was a great venue, so private and rural with a great relaxing feel. Would recommend to anyone looking for an outdoor style venue.
The reception at the venue was innovative and well received by guests with them getting to choose their own food with each table having their own food trolley of hot food.
Lots of great speeches and funny moments about Adam and Cherelle were shared.
Thank you Adam and Cherelle.
You are both amazing and I look forward to seeing you and hearing about your future adventures.
