2 yrs ago I had the good fortune to procure my red girl Cooperabung Red Maybel from the Flynn family. Last Friday Chika gave birth to her first litter for Tropicrain Kennels. She had 7 healthy puppies 4x red Stumpy tailed girls, 1x red tailed male and 2x blue tailed males.

I had thought that Chika had miscarried some if not all of her pups a week after mating. Imagine my surprise when she had 7. At this point in time all are doing well and I can't wait to see how they develop.

My girl Chika due in a week to Tropicrain Jas Akai. This is her first litter and Jasper's 2nd. Jasper's daughter Temp has done quite well in the show ring and 3 of her boys have gone over to the US. I'm excited to see what these 2 produce. I won't be putting any photos up till the 1st week is done. Stay tuned!

Our Show season has started in Far North Queensland and it has been a good start for Tropicrain. 3 weeks ago was the Mareeba shows. The first 2 shows I couldn't make because of Illness but Tropicrain Tempests Fury (Nina) was there to represent and picked up 2x Bob on the Saturday. I managed to show on the Sunday with Tropicrain Reka Of the Land getting Bob and Nina getting Runner up Bob.

The following weekend was the Ingham cluster. My favourite shows of the year but this year it's been raining all year and I'm not a die-hard show person. I only went on the Sunday when it had been dry for a couple of days๐Ÿ˜‚

Justajoke were there with Ch Cumbydene Redemption (Denny), CH Anniepride Jokes on Fire (Whiz), Justajoke Rumour Has It and so was Michelle with Nina. It was a Rumour weekend with 5 out of 6 Bobs and Nina getting a Bob as well. My 2 Cooperabung Red Maybel (Chika aka Junkyard Dog, The Red Menace, Chikorita) and Reka got a RuBob each.

On to The Burdekin shows. Up till this point Chika hasn't had the results that I'd like but she has been hard work. She has now matured a bit and is working like a champion and her results are starting to show it. I must admit that I had started 2nd guessing my faith in Reka's quality but I was about to find out that I've been right about her.

Show 1 Chika Bob, Show 2 Reka Bob and Best in Group against some really strong dogs. The judge was really good giving us lots of feedback and found it very hard to decide who he would put up. He said they were all really good quality Stumpies with Whiz and Rumour also there.

Show 3 Chika Bob and Intermediate in Group and Reka RuBob. The 4th and final show on Sunday Cooperabung Kennels (Gayle, Chris and Maz) came to watch Chika and catch up. It was so good to see them and I was hoping that Chika would get a win for them but it went to Reka.

I'm very proud to own Chika and to be getting some good results with her now. So honoured to represent Cooperabung as there aren't many of the original Development Register breeders left. They have bred some really nice dogs in their time. Chika's big win in the A20 show was thrilling as I think that she is possibly the 1st Stumpy to receive an A20 certificate. I may be wrong but I think that's correct.

It's always a pleasure to catch up with our Northern crew especially Judy and Ash as that's the only times we get together. We all like to win but we don't take it too seriously and congratulate each other and help each other as we can. After all it's just a dog show the world isn't going to end.

This is Ozzie and Bodhi. Ozzie went over to live in LA with a lovely couple who were expecting their first baby. That has worked out so well. They adore each other and even play with each other's toys. Now that Bodhi is mobile they get to play together even more. What a beautiful friendship and how lucky are they to grow up together ๐Ÿ’–

I just had to share this as it cracked me up and it's so appropriate. I was talking to a buyer who had bought one of Temp's (aka psycho chicken) sons. She was say how it takes a bit to get him to settle before going into the ring. She said if he was human he'd be drinking rum and doing circle work in his ute๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Just when I thought the year couldn't get much better it did. 2 yrs ago I had a red boy named Buddy that I had to rehome. I received a phone call from Judy McCann of Justajoke Kennels who was interested in him and decided to buy him. Buddy has gone on to get some amazing results in the show ring and Judy, her daughter Ash and I have become great friends. Whenever I travel south whether it be dog shows or taking my grandson to motocross I always have a meal and a bed at their place.

Justajoke bred a very influential dog around 26yrs ago, Justajoke Stockman. He is in many of the modern Stumpies pedigrees. He was also the foundation Sire for Cumbydene Kennels. Judy only breeds when she wants to keep a pup so only bred a couple of litters back in the day. With the purchase of Buddy she wanted to get back into showing and breeding.

We happened to buy brothers around 18 months ago, Lee and Denny. I had bred Tropicrain Supa Nova out of a bitch I'd bred (Narli) and her owners Pat and Mel wanted to do another litter so I recommended Judy and her boy Denny. In the meantime I put Lee to Nova. They produced my Reka who recently received 2 Minor Puppy in Groups and a Minor Puppy in Show having not been shown much yet.

Denny and Narli produced Justajoke Rumour has It who, this weekend smashed it with 4 Baby Puppy in Groups and 3 Baby Puppy in Shows. In the 6 yrs that I've been showing and breeding this year has been amazing. Judy and Ash have taught me a lot and I have made some really good breeding decisions that are paying off.

The Justajoke/Tropicrain collaboration this weekend has blown us all away. As Judy said of course it happened when she wasn't there๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks ladies, I hope that our friendship continues and our collaborations continue to be successful. We're certainly off to a running start. Next year is going to be an interesting year with Nina, Reka and Rumour all being exceptional bi***es fighting it out.

All good things come to an end. This year has been a really successful one for Tropicrain. My dogs have brought home good results consistently up against big competition.

The last couple of weeks has been wonderful catching up with the people in my life that mean so much to me. Back home today and back to my everyday life after being away on a much needed holiday.

After buying my girl Reka back I decided to keep her as I wanted a bitch from that mating and she hasn't disappointed. Next year promises to be a big year for her.

Chika my junkyard dog has come forward in leaps and bounds with some really good results. She is a force unto herself and it took a lot of work to get her working well.

Tropicrain Firestorm (Buddy) has had a great year as well but sadly Nina's show year was cut a bit short. She has put in fantastic results as has her mother Temp who I only show occasionally now as she is titled and showing is expensive.

I pulled Shimmer (CH Cumbydene Bit of Magic) out of retirement for a few shows and she has cleaned up. She is one of my 2 foundation bi***es who has thrown some really good pups. Sadly I can't breed with her anymore but she has still contributed greatly to my breeding program.

CH Tropicrain Waitn On the Storm went on to gain his title by 8 months of age and his owner has secured a couple of good bloodlines to breed him with down the track. He is a brother to Nina plus Chief, Ossie and Holden who went to the US all out of Temp by Gerry. Chief is owned by a breeder with impressive results in the show ring, Ossie is in a pet home and much loved and Holden is showing great promise as an agility dog.

I can't forget Justajoke Rumour Has It. Bred by Justajoke out of Reka's Granddam Tropicrain Narli by Cumbydene Redemption. She has just started her show career and is showing great promise with 5x Baby Puppy of Breed and 1x Baby Puppy in Group at the weekend.
Justajoke own Buddy as well and being long time breeders and show veterans I'm honoured that they have faith in my dogs and I cherish having met Judy and Ash and calling them 2 of the most special people in my life. They have supported and educated me in the breed and in my show handling which has improved immensely ๐Ÿคฃ

So that's a wrap for Tropicrain Kennels till next year.

Well the Burdekin shows are done and dusted. Chika recieved 3xJunior of Breed. I was very happy with her as she actually performed quite well for Chika๐Ÿ˜… getting there with her.
Reka had a brilliant weekend with Show 1 Minor Puppy of Breed, Minor Puppy in Group under Mr A Brown and then Minor Puppy in Show under Carol Beckett.

Show 2 Minor Puppy of Breed under Mr J Beckett. Show 3 Minor Puppy of Breed and Minor Puppy in Group under Mrs Carol Beckett.

CH Tropicrain Firestorm received Ausbred dog and reserve Challenge dog in Show 1. Ausbred dog and Runner up Best of Breed in Show 2 followed by Ausbred Dog in Show 3.

I spoke to the Becketts after the shows were finished for their feedback on Reka. They said that she was very typey, a smidge long and could maybe do with a little more leg plus her muzzle is a little long and a bit narrow in the face.
Apart from needing a little more leg it was everything that I had thought about her.

Burdekin ran a very good event being their first one. Great competition in the Stumpies as is always the case in northern Queensland and so good to catch up with good friends who I hadn't seen in awhile. Next weekend will be the Proserpine cluster which will be my first time there then my show year is over. All in all a satisfactory weekend

Introducing Tropicrain Reka of the Land. She is the first of Cumbydene Achilles litters out of Tropicrain Supa Nova and I am pretty happy with the results. This is the beginning of the new generation of Tropicrain dogs. On the weekend we ventured to Woodstock for her first 3 shows along with Cooperabung Red Maybel (Chika) by Tropicrain Blaze of Glory out of Cooperabung Patsy Malone and Tropicrain Tempests Fury (Nina) by Gr Ch Aravan Gerry Standing as I wanted a double cross to Aravan Misterfyde out of CH Tropicrain Eye of the Tempest.

There were 5 Stumpies competing this weekend and everyone got a slice of the pie with Nina 3 x Puppy of Breed, Bob x 2, Challenge Bitch x 2 and Runner up in Group being only the 2nd time one of my dogs has achieved this award.

Chika is always unsettled for show 1 so I didn't expect anything there and she didn't surprise me๐Ÿ˜‚ Show 2 she was settled so I was excited but just before we were to go in someone's dog had a go at her. As a result she had a meltdown and wouldn't settle. She did get Junior of Breed x 3 and in Show 3 she performed the best she ever has and received BOB!

Reka was a little overwhelmed in Show 1 being her first but she was a good girl. Show 2 she was better. Show 3 she received Reserve Challenge bitch and RU Bob! Plus she was Minor Puppy of Breed x 3. Gotta be pleased with that.

Next shows are Innisfail next weekend so I'm looking forward to seeing how the girls do although they will only be competing against each other.

24/07/2023

How remiss of me not to mention my southern Tropicrain dogs. Tropicrain Enzo and CH Tropicrain Firestorm attended Rockhampton shows over the weekend as well with fierce competition. 10 Stumpies attended this one.

Enzo 3 x intermediate Dog of Breed
1 x reserve Dog challenge
1 x Bob

Buddy 3 x StateBred of Breed
1 x reserve Dog challenge

All in all a good weekend for Tropicrain.

24/07/2023

We had our 4 Cairns shows in the weekend. Thankfully the weather was fine. There were only 4 Stumpies this weekend. CH Tropicrain Eye of the Tempest, Tropicrain Tempest's Fury, Cooperabung Red Maybel and Cumbydene Baileyanna. All nice bi***es so all wins were well deserved.

Temp 2x Bob
4 x Ausbred if Breed
1 x Ausbred Class in Group
Nina 4 x Puppy of Breed
2 x reserve Bitch Challenge
1 x Puppy Class in Group
1 x Puppy in Show
Chika 4 x Junior of Breed
1 x Bob

Chika was challenging this weekend to say the least but finally pulled it together yesterday for the win.
