Young horse dentals 🦷 lots of sharp enamel points, deciduous caps and wolf teeth.

The deciduous tooth caps were loose and ready to come off. Some were complete and some were only remaining shards that didn’t come off properly by themselves.

I would like to thank my beautiful clients for their understanding and support while I am taking time off for baby and family time.

I finished appointments today and now I am on mat leave. An email will be sent out to all existing clients and I will advise about ongoing medication orders.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of chatting to riders about what I offer as an equine vet in the area and the importance of veterinary dentistry for horses.

Another dental day done :)
Can you see the open pulp on this patient's lower incisors? An open pulp is an open root canal, which can cause pain and infection.

The normal re**al temperature of an adult horse is between 37.3 and 38.3 degree Celsius and every first aid kit should have a digital thermometer in it!

Make sure you get one of my free digital thermometers for your first aid kit on my next visit.

Look at that big BEAN!

Every gelding booked in for his dental exam and treatment, will also have his sheath cleaned as part of the service.

Or if your gelding receives sedation for any other reason than a dental please feel free to ask as well for a sheath check :)

Did you know the sacroiliac joint is not a joint like the others?
It is the connection of the spine and the hind end of your horse. The space is not like other joints a joint capsule with joint fluid, it is more so a fibrous connection and ligaments joining the sacrum and hip together.
This connection deals with major forces in each stride when the hind end transfers force to the front end.

Pain in the SI joint can make your horse lame in the hind end, dip when saddling or mounting, cross canter, buck or just not feel right.

Thorough examination, physio exercises, saddle fit or even injections can help.

Grass seeds and eyes do not go well together.

Lucky we got this grass seed out before it could do any more damage. The green in the eye is the fluorescent stain uptake to show corneal abrasions/ulcerations.
