We are situated on around 18 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of

both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. We are best known for our amazing "up close and personal" animal encounters, which provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!

The National Zoo and Aquarium's 'Woo at the Zoo Tour' is BACK!

This 18+, after hours tour, covers everything you never wanted to know about animal dating and mating! Bring your valentine to the zoo and join us for an unforgettable glimpse into the secret lives of animal courtship. After the tour, enjoy your romantic picnic box with bubbles overlooking the rhinos, cheetah or giraffe!

We are exceptionally proud of the conservation work our team has put into conserving and supporting Sri Lankan Leopards!

Our breeding program with Yakalla and Ankesh has produced 3 cubs in total (2 boys and a lovely girl), and is really a tribute to the dedication of our Carnivore Team for making our couple feel right at home!

There’s multiple viewing points for our Sri Lankan Leopard exhibits so there’s so many opportunities to watch this elusive cat!

What are you l👀king at?!

Did you know that ostriches are incredibly unique birds?

On top of being the largest bird and also flightless, ostriches have 3 (count em 3!) stomachs!

Not only that, they are the only bird to urinate and defecate separately!

You’ll often see an ostrich (and other birds) ingest stones and this is to aid their digestive processes as they have no teeth!

Have you met ‘Dora’ our Pale Octopus? 🤔

Octopus are sensational camouflage artists so it may take you awhile to find Dora!

Helpful hint, Dora often occupies the pots in the exhibit!

This is actually a common trait of this species. Pale Octopus in the wild will often utilize rubbish or even a bed of Sea Squirts to take refuge during the day before venturing out at night to explore their environment 🐙
