Did you know….

It’s a new year and time to regenerate for the year to come. The axolotl is famous for their ability to regenerate. They can regrow limbs, can also regenerate parts of their brains, including the telencephalon — the front portion of the brain.

“When injured, axolotls activate specific progenitor cells that differentiate into the neurons needed to replace damaged ones.

These regenerated neurons not only mature but also reconnect to other neurons, restoring functionality. This remarkable ability, absent in terrestrial vertebrates, makes axolotls a valuable model for understanding brain regeneration.”
