Miss Ivy had her second โPlaceโ training lesson today.
I havenโt had time to do alot with her since she arrived while I still had puppies here, but she is very smart and very keen to learn!
Iโm quietly hopeful that I may eventually have an ANKC agility dog here ๐ฅฐ๐

Agility practice
Havenโt done much with any of the dogs last couple of days due to injuring my shoulder ๐ญ but played with Willow this morning practicing some agility. Sheโs doing so well! Going to be working hard on getting her foundations set up over the next 12 months and building her drive for the โgameโ of agility before we do anything with it. Sheโs nearly 15 months and we are not in a rush ๐ฅฐ love this little dog!!

Fear responses
I wanted to do a quick little video today because the puppies have been taken to a few new areas. Theyโve come through the house and have been out the front which is a completely new area for them and they were outside when my son and his friend came home from school and I captured this response. The puppies are now well and truly in the stage where they will exhibit a fear response in relation to something new or something that they are a little bit worried about as you can see this Puppy doing. What I work on when raising these puppies is increasing their resilience to startle, so basically what I do is give them an opportunity to practice coming back from something that scares them. This might be a loud noise like me dropping a lid on the floor or closing a door loudly, opening an umbrella, etc the puppies will startle but then they should recover within a couple of seconds and come straight back to what they were doing before which is exactly what this Puppy did. when you get your puppy home and you see a similar response like this to something new and it could be something that you wouldnโt think would cause this response such as a shopping bag or a pair of boots or a cushion (it can just be something the Puppy has never seen before) make sure you verbally praise the Puppy AFTER they have come back to the object that they exhibited the fear response to. Some trainers say you should never praise or comfort a puppy or dog when theyโre exhibiting fear which is ridiculous because you cannot reward an emotion for instance if you were sad and I gave you $20 itโs not going to make you more sad ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐ but you can reward a Puppy for showing resilience to something that worries them in the form of praise or food rewards which increases their confidence around new objects which is what I do when I raise these puppies for you guys ๐

And here I thought it was going to take a few days before they all figure out how to jump into the ball pit last litter took two or three days of being out with a ball pit before they discovered they could jump in this litter is into it day one LOL

Cheeko and I had an awesome walk out with the Ballarat Cavalier club today. We had a fantastic turnout and beautiful weather and everybody and their dogs had a ball!! Iโm looking forward to planning the next one and everyone and their cavaliers are welcome to attend. Every day I put a unique item in the whelping box with the puppies. Itโs not about something for them to play with at this age๏ฟผ. It is about exposing them to objects of different size, colour and texture in order to begin socialising them to new objects in their environment.
It gets changed daily because we want the puppies to be exploring and interested in new things not just habituating to the same objects in their immediate vicinity day and day out.
The puppies are also getting more adept at drinking the goats milk from the bowl. Next step will be adding meat over the next couple of days
