What do you do if you are a sociable, fun-loving animal? You go to the Clunes & District Agricultural Society!

It was only the second time we’ve done a Miniature Goat Breeders Association of Australia - MGBA display (joined by fellow breeders Rosewood Lodge Farm) but our goats had a ball!

Four more sleeps until we partner with fellow breeder Rosewood Lodge Farm to display some of our Australian mini’s at the Clunes & District Agricultural Society.

This quintessential country show was the first place we’ve ever shown Long View Miniature Goats. Last year the Miniature Goat Breeders Association of Australia - MGBA helped us setup our display.

Imagine our excitement when we realised that the show promo in regional paper, the Courier includes one of our very own kids - Long View Bonnie!

The diminutive Bonnie will be a first time mum in 2025 and we can’t wait to see how gorgeous her kids will be. Meantime, we’ll show her this so she knows she’s a rockstar!

…and just like that kidding season for 2024 has come to a happy end 😀. Adorable Miss Alice aka Pippy, Queen 🤴 of our herd, safely gave birth to twin doelings.

This was our biggest kidding season so far. We’ll miss the newborn cuddles 🥰 but can now enjoy watching all the babies play together.

It’s not all mothering and stock management at Long View. Sometimes the ‘girls’ just like to have a latte and a good read 😜.

Goats 🐐 have such an inquisitive and friendly nature that putting your feet up for five minutes in the paddock with a good book is always welcomed.

Of course, I only do this to make sure they are well socialised (and read). The chores responsible goat breeders have to do 😂.

Two days after Bo Peep Gaby gave birth, Bo Peep Serenity brought another doeling (Humbug) and Tri-coloured buck (Freddie Mercury) into the world.

Serenity’s babies often have toggles which are becoming rarer these days. This is the first time we’ve had a doeling with toggles!

So sweet x

It was an exciting day for Long View Peanut, Mango and Pickles.

They visited the Clunes Playgroup at Clunes Neighbourhood House 🏠 and then had a chance to talk to the Health Futures Australia team who were getting ready for a pasta making course!

Where was mum? Bo Peep Farm Gaby stayed outside enjoying a lunch of lucerne while her babies socialised 😜.

“I want to play but you know that moment when your mum tells you to nap and she really means it?”

“Well, that moment is now so I am not moving a muscle til she finishes her breakfast and gives me the nod 😃.”

“Then I’m all yours! Bring on the day ☀️.”

On Sunday, Bo Peep Farm Gaby showed how a seasoned young mum gives birth. With swift efficiency her twins (a buckling and a tri coloured doeling) were brought into the world and tucked under her wing.

Long View Mango and Long View Pickles have mum and dad’s (Kazoo Monty) relaxed temperaments, settling down quickly after mum cleaned them up and filled their bellies.

We like to keep our goats in paddocks near our house 🏡. Australian Miniature goats make great companion animals. We like to help that along with regular handling and exposure to family life.

The end result is kids that aren’t skittish and who enjoy our company as much as we enjoy theirs.

Adorable Miss Alice (aka Pippy), Bo Peep Farm Serenity and Bo Peep Farm Gaby aren’t due to kid until later this month.

We spread out the season so we’d have enough nursery space in the sheds, as well as a chance to catch our breath between babies.

One of the bonuses of doing this is we’ll have kids of different ages to show at the Clunes Agricultural Society Show in November.

Oops. How did that happen? Long View Peanut (one of Starla’s doelings) may have snuck into the post 😜. So cute! [and weirdly the image of Gaby as a baby!]

Bo Peep Farm Starla 🐐 ensured her kids were well and truly cooked!

We seemed to be watching for signs of birthing forever, and then when we weren’t looking she popped out two beautiful doelings with stunning colours.

Their cheeky grins come from a dark lip line that was passed on from Dad Silverfern Victor of Rosewood Lodge Farm.

These doelings are likely to be part of Long View Miniature Goats display at the upcoming Clunes Agricultural Society Show in November.

Kidding season has kicked off in style with first-time mum Long View Faith giving birth to twin boys. Faith was the first doe born at Long View and this is her first kidding.

Her bucklings have striking markings (in part due to Dad, Silverfern Stud Victor from Rosewood Lodge Farm) and her tiny stature.

With only a week to go before kidding season starts at Long View, we’ve been enjoying a trip down memory lane.

At Long View Farm lambing season has started. The paddock is full of mum’s and bubs, but occasionally things don’t go to plan so we have the nursery set up at 🏠.

Long View Cadbury was sympathetic (but cautious) when I explained we had had two overnight arrivals. Once I explained that goats remained my first 🥰 it was all fun and games again 😜.

What did we learn after our first experience of a goat display at the 165th Clunes Agricultural Society Show?

Lots. But mostly that there is nothing better than legitimately having an excuse to talk goats all day 😆 . James even got to introduce young Bonnie to Martha Haylett MP and was excited to find this happy snap in her feed!

A huge thanks to Sharon and Kym and MGBA (Miniature Goat Breeders Association of Australia) for their support and encouragement. As ‘young’ breeders the best thing we ever did was work closely with other breeders to learn how to confidently care for and enjoy our goats 🐐 .

Big thanks too, to the organisers of the Clunes Show for helping us become involved!
