Hi everyone!!

Today I wanted to show off some of the beautiful female mice we have available at the rescue. These girls are absolutely stunning in looks and personality wise.

We took in a handful of pregnant ladies a couple of months ago so most of these girls were either young mums, or were born in our care. All these girls have had daily interactions since being with us and most absolutely love a good snuggle. Some even had the privilege of spending some time in foster care to get used to different noises, smells and faces.

If you are looking for a couple of girls to endlessly entertain your household, please consider rescuing, these girls are worth it!! And if you are looking for some fat boys instead, no worries we got those too💕

Hey everyone this is Ashley!

I just wanted to give a massive/special shout out to someone apart of the rescue who has done absolutely outstanding work. Miss Rianne, is one of our foster carers. She has put so much heart and dedication to some of the rats that are under our care, we cannot thank her enough for it.

If you might remember, we had 3 rats given to us, 2 males 1 female and the female gave birth to some beans. Rianne took the 2 males and then shortly, some of the male rats as they were displaying some concerning behavior that wouldn't be suitable for rehoming.

Rianne worked her magic and made immense progress with these rats, making them available for adoption. She even picked out how one of them is pretty much nearly blind! She has given so much LOVE, CARE, and WORK into the rats we've given her, and we cannot thank her enough for it.

Rianne, I myself, cannot express how much I appreciate the work that you do. It not only helps take a load off my hands, but it also gives some of the rats even more 1 on 1 that they need that we cant always provide here at the main site. Thank you SO much for making a difference in these rats (and mice!) lives. You are truly amazing!

What happens when rats are not adoptable? What if they have tumours? Over 3 years old? What do we do in these sort of situations?

We have a couple labels that we put onto the rats into our care, Under Treatment, Adoption, and Sanctuary. Under Treatment, is basically what it sounds like! It is rats that are unwell and being treated and rats with behavioural issues, that we work towards making them better and adoptable!

Adoption is rats that are up for adoption, they have passed our behavioural tests and health exams/checks and have had all their treatments that make them safe and adoptable.

And then, Sanctuary. Sanctuary is where a rat is not well enough to adopt but is still healthy, this can be age, they have tumours, etc. This is where we keep these rats in our care and let them live out the rest of their lives spoilt in our care! (Did you know we have 5 rats as sanctuary rats?!)

Pictured is a Rat named Rosie. Rosie came in extremely timid, to the point you'd go in and let her sniff you hand and she would scream and run to the corner. With gentle guidance and being placed with a group of rats who are highly confident, Rosie is now (as you can see) capable of being around humans without fear!

We have helped several rats like Rosie over the years but it doesn't always work out like that. Some rats are genetically prone to having behavioural issues, whether it be hormonal aggression, which is fixed with desexing or genetic aggression, with this the kindest thing (with guidance by your rat savvy vet) is euthanasia. (Though not seen often!)

We do our absolute best here at the Yuki & Iris Foundation to give every rat the best chances at life. Hence why we pride ourselves on treating the rats like our own and they wouldn't know that they are in a "Shelter" setting. We have saved several rats from being terrified of life all the way to keeping rats happy and comfy in their elder years.

We love each and every rat that comes through our doors and we hope you see that when they enter your homes ! 🐀

We from the Yuki & Iris Foundation hope that you all have had a wonderful and kind start of the new year.

With the start of the new year it is not only time to look back at the things we are grateful for, but also to look forward to the wonders that are still waiting for us. We currently have three boys that are ready for adoption and they very well might be the one, or two, or three amazing wonders you introduce into your life this year.

With adoptions opening back up at the Yuki and Iris Foundation, please let us introduce Boss, Freckles and Diablo. Three young boys that were born into our care after their mum and dad(s) were left outside a vet clinic due to no fault of their own. All three boys have spend time in foster care before returning to our rescue.

Freckles (media 1-2 + video in comments): Freckles lives for adventure and nothing is too crazy for him. He enjoys spaces to explore and a engaged family to play with. He thrives on attention.

Boss (media 3/4/5): Boss is not a rat. Boss is a cat in a tiny rat body. A little man that knows what he wants. Boss is incredibly smart and would probably enjoy learning tricks (but only when it fits in his Boss decided schedule)

Diablo (media 6 + video in comments): Diablo is most content when he is napping. He loves being loved, watching tv and hanging out in your jumper.

If you are interested in one of these stunning boys, please message the rescue on our page and we will get in contact with you.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and nothing looks cuter under the Christmas tree then a well loved animal. Unfortunately, this also means that although we see a spike in adoptions during the holiday season, the reality of everyday life often kicks in afterwards. A sad reality which isn't fair for anyone involved. We, at the Yuri and Iris foundation, have therefore decided to do things differently this year and to close our adoptions starting today, from 01.12.23 untill 02.01.24.

But! Don't worry!

If you have been thinking about adopting a pet, especially for someone else, here are some alternatives to scratch that urge during the holidays😊 - or alternatively, to think about before you take the next step.

1) Pets are a huge responsibility which take up a massive amount of time. If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, think about who is going to step in, or alternatively, step up. And not just now, but for the next few years with every holiday. A childs attention span might do better with a stuffed animal for now.

2) is the pet a present for yourself, your family or someone else's family? If you are getting a pet for someone else, do you know for sure that they want this pet? That they have done the necessary research? Have you? Alternatively, you could get this person a bag of food, a cage or even a handmade voucher that promises to pay for the adoption costs whenever they are ready. Think about all the fun and build-up you guys can go through together!

3) Pets are expensive and even vet bills for smaller animals can quickly add up, often costing more then the animal itself originally. Do you know the most common diseases for this type of animal? Do you know what the average vet visit will cost and do you or the person who is adopting have this accessible? Building up to Christmas, go for a stroll, check out your local vets and gift yourself with the knowledge that when you take a new pet home, you have done your research and are all prepared!🤩

Imagine description: Gizmo, a boy that went through our care, in his current home under the Christmas tree.

As you know, we try to shed light on sad situations. We had a surrender of a pregnant female who was labelled as male with 2 very much male cage mates. So here we are on day 20 of this very pregnant girl. So why not try and have a small photoshoot before this girl has her beans!

Please enjoy Inaris small photoshoot, and it puts a smile on your face!!!

Hey, Lani here! It’s my first time posting but I’ve been lurking behind the scenes as part of the rescue for a while now.
At the rescue, we will always take on rats in need of shelter and a safe haven, and we will give them the upmost care, love, and medical treatment (where necessary), and will either give them a loving home for the rest of their lives or adopt them out, depending on what is appropriate for each unique situation.
We have a lot of experience of medical care for rats, and have exotic-knowledgeable veterinarians who we take our rescues to when they need veterinary care. We would NEVER let an animal suffer, or watch an animal medically decline without doing everything we can to prevent and treat the condition. However, in saying this, as anyone who has had a pet would know, sometimes no matter how much you love them and how much care you give them, animals can go downhill despite aggressive medical treatment. It breaks our hearts, and takes a huge emotional toll on our team. We are here to help small animals in every way possible. Recently we have had an experience where rats were surrendered to the rescue, and upon hearing that one of those rats have subsequently become unwell (because we will always honour maintaining contact and giving updates on surrendered rats when requested, because we understand that sometimes you have to give up a beloved pet due to circumstances out of your control) we have been blamed for this illness. This kind of behaviour is never okay, and will not be tolerated. We thank everyone for their continued support of the rescue and their understanding that we can’t control the health of every animal in our care, no matter how much we would give to be able to do so. ❤️🐀
