Australian Merino producers, we want to hear from you!
An MLA/AWI funded research project investigating merino ewe mortality has started, with the first phase capturing industry wide data around the extent of Merino ewe losses and management practices, through an online industry survey.
Findings will inform on-farm trials investigating the incidence and causes of Merino ewe mortality around the period of lambing, which is starting in 2024.

Great to see so many producers dropping off or posting faeces samples for worm egg counts.
A few weeks after rain is a great time to test because Barbers Pole Worm love these conditions. Spend $35, potentially save a day in the yards drenching in the heat 🥵 and sleep well at night.

🌎 Today we’ve hosted Lucy from the National Sheep Association and her partner Will, visiting all the way from the United Kingdom. Lucy is doing a project on grazing management of sheep - needless to say our environment is a bit different to what she’s used to! We were able to show her and Will some fabulous Aussie merino sheep, a tiny bit of green feed, how we calculate grain rations, a mild 34C temp and a few hundred flies!

These early weaned calves were pretty happily eating 1.8kg of pellets per day, but today there’s plenty left in the trough.

🐮The workshop was presented by Dr Jillian who is founder and managing director of AHN Consulting. Dr Jillian works along side beef and sheep producers to improve their enterprises through a blend of veterinary science, ruminant nutrition and farm management.

🐮The team was able to refresh their knowledge on how a rumen functions, feed gap scenarios, interpreting feed tests and practical feed rations.
