Bravery award for the month goes to Wilma. After major surgery and nearly two weeks with us in hospital, Wilma was very excited to go home. She has kept us on our toes with finding new ways to hide her tablets and definitely has finished a few points up on us. What an absolute little trooper!

Three day sickness is here 🐮 🤒

Three day is a viral infection spread by insects such as mosquitoes.It causes fever, shivering, lameness and muscular stiffness. Animals may stop eating and drinking and become depressed this often affects the biggest animals more severely!
“The bigger they are, the harder they fall!”

The fever and joint soreness will cause a range of signs- from stiffness and lethargy through to full recumbency (which can last a few days, hence the name “3 day sickness”).

Nursing care is very important once the cow is down and there are a lot of things we can do to help them get back up 🩺 🐄

It’s looking like we’re in for some hot weather next week so please take care of your furry friends. Overheating can kill or cause permanent organ damage so be mindful that if it’s too hot for you, then it’s probably too hot for them. If you have any questions or concerns please call us.

FIREWORKS at 8pm Tuesday night for the Coonamble Show.
Please remember to look after your dogs as they may be scared of the fireworks.
* Keep your dog inside if possible.
* Give them a safe place to hide if they are feeling anxious.
* Give your dog plenty of exercise during the day prior to the fireworks.
* Distract them with food or toys.
* Make sure your dog is microchipped and your contact details up to date.

Due to the Coonamble show public holiday next week NorthWest Vets will be closed in Walgett next Tuesday the 23rd May and closed in both Coonamble and Lightning Ridge on the 24th May. For any emergencies the after hours services will still be available so please call the clinic on 02 6822 1381.
