Eastern Brown on a boat. 🤯

The fishermen in this boat saw a snake swimming over to them but didn't think it would be an Eastern Brown... or that he'd be climbing in for the ride home.

Safely relocated. ❤️

Finding sea legs while catching a deadly snake isn't as fun as you'd think. 🤣

These guys are venomous but not considered too dangerous.

Yesterday I was called out to a rescue at Cedar Creek.
A carpet python had been sitting in the same spot for 3 days.

I headed out as soon as I could and assessed the situation.
He was completely stuck in the rock wall because he could hardly move the back half of his body.
He had sustained a terrible injury. He had a broken spine and ribs along with some puncture wounds.

I rushed him to my vets and headed out the back with them to take the xrays and decide on treatment.

Unfortunately the break in his spine was so bad and with only minimal movement we made the decision that he couldn't be saved.
I stood with him while we sent him to sleep. 🕊

I walked out of the clinic with tears down my cheeks, an empty catch bag and another little break in my heart.

Rest in peace. 💔

This big beautiful Red Belly was hiding out under a house in Laceys Creek. (Mind my concentration face) 🤣
He chose one of the smaller crawl spaces under there to hide out, there wasnt a whole lot of room to move... 😅 thanks dude.
The lovely owners offered for me to relocate him just at the back of their property!
They just didn't want him under the house so close to them and their dogs.
Absolutely beautiful people! Thankyou so much for caring about our wildlife.

Happy Steve Irwin Day!!!
A perfect day for us to appreciate Steve and all of the wildlife he loved.
Including these guys.
Eastern Brown snake. (Pseudonaja textilis)
Capable of a fatal bite, being the second deadliest snake in the world but also capable of being appreciated and loved.
Just like Steve did and just like I do.

Had a couple close calls with this guy yesterday, he was a bit of a live wire. 💣
Does that make me hate them? Absolutely not! Only appreciate and respect them more.

Today... make it your goal to learn something new about snakes. We aren't so quick to hate things if we know something about them.

Stunning little Eastern Brown from Laidley.
This guy had a run in with a cat and the cat ended up being envenomated. 😔
Please please please get your domestic pets seen straight away for bloods if they have had close contact with a venomous snake.
They don't always show signs of being tagged straight away and once you notice it can be too late...
Secondly make sure the snake is seen to by a registered catcher or vet as bites and scratches from our domestic pets are often fatal to these guys due to infection.

Just a reminder to everyone in flooded areas.
Our wildlife will be desperately searching for somewhere dry.
Snakes can and do swim very well. They will be searching out higher ground.

DOA, absolutely devastated I didn't get there in time.

You can't say you didn't see her! Couldn't slow down? Couldn't avoid her in the three and a half lanes you had at 5.30am Saturday morning?
Very sad start to my weekend and she no longer has one.

Eastern Small-eyed Snake. 🐍
(Cryptophis Nigrescens)

Quite a small snake with the average size being around 50cm.
They feed on smaller snakes, small lizards, their eggs and sometimes frogs.
Often mistaken for the Red Bellied Black snake due to similarities in colouring at a glance they are however quite different.

Generally a glossy dark grey to black with a cream to pink belly.
Their belly colouring does not extend up their side like it does on the RBB. They are also nocturnal and as their name suggests they have quite small eyes.

These guys are found in Eastern Australia from Cape York all the way down to Victoria.

They are ready biters and if handled tend to thrash around.
If you do receive a bite from an Eastern Small Eyed Snake be sure to apply appropriate first aid and seek medical attention immediately.
They are HIGHLY VENOMOUS and are responsible for one recorded death.

Right all the serious stuff is out!
Now let's appreciate the beauty of this snake. 😍🐍

This little guy came into care last night a little sluggish and dehydrated.
He was found on the road with some ants hitching a ride while he was searching for a new place to call home.

After spending the night in a temporary enclosure with some water he had a vet check today and was given the all clear to head back to his natural world.

Tomorrow is going to be a warm one in Samford Valley. Snakes like the heat but they also like to escape it. Your cool, air-conditioned homes provide a great place for a midday nap for our scaly friends.

I just wanted to remind everyone that I am available 24 hours 7 days per week. If you see a snake on your property and would like it relocated please stay a safe distance away but keep a close watch on where it goes, quite often we get call outs where we are unable to locate the snake as we have no idea where its gone or even if it is still on the property.
Should we be on the roof looking in the guttering? On the ground around nearby bushes? Over the fence next door?
Keep watch. 😊🐍
