Urgent Appeal: Cat Litter Supply Challenge

Thank you to everyone who answered our call for help in July for cat litter. The donations were overwhelming, and have got us through until now.

We are once again asking for your help with our feline friends 🐈

If you have any unused cat litter at home or can spare a bag for donation, we would be incredibly grateful.

You can drop off your donations at RSPCA NT, 80 Boulter Road Berrimah (Monday to Friday 9am-3pm, Saturday 9am-4pm).

This morning Bek, our new Foster and Volunteer Co-ordinator popped into the Mix 104.9 studio to chat to Leisha and Dan. We are so excited to have Bek on board at RSPCA NT and look forward to her working with our valuable volunteers and foster carers.

We really couldn't rehome and rehabilitate as many animals as we do without these amazing and selfless people who open up their hearts and homes to our vulnerable Top End animals.

Pupdate: Ollie has found his FURever home!

Sweet 2 year old Ollie visited Leisha and Dan from Mix 104.9 this morning. After getting used to his new surrounds, he settled in and made himself at home. He loves being around people, especially kids. Ollie travels well in the car and loves going for a walk. He's made a couple of besties here at RSPCA so would be a great companion for the right canine friend.

Sweet 1 year 7 month old Busta visited Uncle Dan at Mix 104.9 this morning to tell him that he and a lot of his friends have joined the 100+ Club. This means that an animal (through no fault of their own) has been in our care for more than 100 days. Busta has been here for a staggering 364 days (1 year)!

None of us are sure why Busta's human hasn't found him yet! He's a sweet boy who LOVES people. His entire body wiggles when he sees a person coming his way, and he is quite vocal in telling people that he is ready to move into his own home. Unfortunately some people must be taking this the wrong way as he's always overlooked.

Busta travels well in the car and loves seeing where he is going on his adventure. He walks well on lead, and has some favourite canine friends that he loves walking and playing with. Sadly, these keep changing as the other dogs get adopted and Busta is left behind.

He is treat driven, eager to please and very smart, so training and teaching him the rules of his new home should be a fun experience for you both. If you can give Busta the FURver home he deserves, filled with love and patience, he will reward you with loyalty and unconditional love.

Sweet Ollie headed to Bunnings Palmerston this morning to help the kids with their DIY craft. He had a great time and loved receiving all of the pats and cuddles from everyone he met. This gorgeous boy travels well in the car and loves people of all ages.

Meet Busta 🐾

Busta has been here for 358 days - ALMOST ONE YEAR. He is just over 1.5 years old and is wondering why his PAWfect human hasn't found him yet.

This sweet boy is very affectionate and LOVES people. Trying to get a photo of him for his profile was difficult as all he wanted to do was get cuddles. He will be a very loyal companion for the right person.

Busta's ideal person will be patient, understanding that he has been in care for more than half his life, and will need time to adjust to having his very own human and forever home. His new family will be committed to his training and willing to invest time and love in helping him reach his full potential.

Some of Busta's favourite things are: chasing after frisbees and balls, water play, humans and food.

If you think Busta could be the loyal and loving pet you've been waiting for, come down and meet him. He is microchipped, vaccinations are up to date, and he has been desexed, so all he needs now is YOU!

Live sheep export bill passes Parliament - this is a historic day in animal welfare!

We're relieved and grateful that the bill to phase out live sheep export has passed the Parliament.

The evidence has told us time and time again that live sheep export is unfixable.

The economic data has consistently told us that it is unnecessary.

The Australian community decided a long time ago that it is unacceptable.

And now, Australia's 47th Parliament has decided that it will be unlawful.

We're incredibly grateful to the MPs and Senators who supported this bill, and to the community for your ongoing support in making sure this important reform happens. Your actions mean you are now a vital part of animal welfare history.

Because of this amazing result we can continue to do the vital work of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming precious Top End animals in need.

We loved having Adam from ABC Darwin out to chat about the importance of helping your animals cope with Territory Day. Preparations are already underway at RSPCA NT to minimise the negative impact on the animals in our care, including having some of our more anxious animals out on foster for the day and night.

Some handy tips for your pets at home:
💻 Make sure your microchip details are up to date with a current contact number
🐾 If you are leaving the house to celebrate, make sure your pet has a safe and secure place inside the home
🫗 Make sure your pet has easy access to food and water
📱 Have a current photo of your pet on hand in case you need to share it in animal lost/found groups on social media
🏡 Keep your windows and curtains closed
🦴 Provide your pet with distractions like favourite toys and bones
📻 Put the radio or television on for ambient noise
🚶‍♀️ Exercise your dog in the early afternoon so they expel some of their energy
🐾 If you are able to, stay at home with your pets during the noisiest part of the night
👀 Keep an eye out the next day for lost and scared animals roaming the streets who need to be reunited with their owners
🐮 Ensure livestock are stabled where possible
🎆 Make sure pets are away from you when you are letting off your personal fireworks at home

We had a great time attending the COTA NT Darwin Seniors Expo today. We heard so many stories of the amazing animals that people have adopted from us over the years. Thank you to the hoomans who shared pictures of the animals in their lives. We loved seeing that Lucy, Nicky, Katy Perry and Thomas are living their best lives!

We hit another milestone yesterday in Australian Sheep welfare! 🐑

The Bill to end live sheep export passed through the House of Representatives with a large majority in favour of the Bill (89 for vs 54 against). It was so great to see such strong positive support from the Government in their speeches.

The Bill now heads to the Senate where we’re hopeful that Senators will, like their colleagues in House of Representatives, support the Bill and swiftly legislate the end date.

But we still need your help. It is crucial that you show your Senator that you support the Bill to phase out live sheep export.
