Bob ❤️

Bob had an anaesthetic yesterday to investigate the reason why he was having trouble breathing, snoring, gagging and retching. A suspected nasopharyngeal polyp was found on exam and was gently removed.

This fleshy mass like polyp was causing Bob so many troubles with his breathing and swallowing. Since removal he has stopped snoring, and can groom himself and eat without snorting and gagging.

The mass has been sent away to a Pathologist to confirm that it is infact a benign polyp as suspected. Bob is also being treated for an eye ulcer on the paralysed side of his face, and for another round of ear infections. 🫣

Otherwise our big Bob is doing very well ❤️

Our newest little bubba ❤️

This little bub joined our rescue on Tuesday because her owners needed some help with her care. She is a now 4 week old Boxer girl who hasn't been doing so well. She is underweight, behind in her growth, and was dehydrated and lethargic when she arrived.

She is already doing much better but is still not out of the woods yet. Please send her all of your positive wishes whilst she keeps fighting to get big and strong. ❤️

Breed - Domestic Short Hair
Gender - Male
Cat Friendly - Yes
Dog Friendly - Yes, very confident
Child Friendly - Would suit slightly older children, is scared of young children
Smooch Scale - Smoochy and affectionate boy!

Location - Deception Bay QLD 4508
Medical Notes - Flicker has a heart murmur. He has had a specialist ultrasound by a Cardiologist which has diagnosed him with very early HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). It is recommended that he has yearly ultrasounds to monitor for any progression of his heart disease. Flicker is desexed, microchipped, fully vaccinated with an F3 vaccination, and is FIV tested negative.

Our gorgeous Flicker is ready to find his perfect forever family. He came to us off death row in a rural pound, and it was clear he had been living on the streets. He was dirty and beaten up, but was confident and loving straight away.

Flicker is a busy and confident boy who is needing a family who is happy for him to be involved in everything. He's nosey and cheeky, and a very playful and silly boy. He would suit a home with older children who can play with him and keep him entertained. He is very affectionate and enjoys snuggles and attention from his humans. Flicker can be a bit intense with other cats, and would suit a home with another relaxed and confident cat. He seems to prefer other male cats, and can be a bit cheeky towards cats that are more nervous. He isn't at all aggressive, but can tease nervous cats to get a reaction. For this reason he needs another confident cat in the house who won't be intimidated by his full on nature. Flicker would also suit a home as an only cat if he got enough attention from his humans throughout the day. He is also very confident with dogs big and small, and would love a home with a friendly doggo. ❤️

🔸️🔸️Please read below about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. 🔸️🔸️

What Is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in Cats?
Like the human heart, the feline heart has four chambers—two smaller chambers on the top, the left and right atrium, and two larger chambers on the bottom, the left and right ventricle.

The function of the right atrium is to pump deoxygenated blood from the body into the right ventricle, which pumps the blood to the lungs to pick up more oxygen for use by the body and release carbon dioxide for disposal. The function of the left atrium is to pump oxygen-rich blood from the lungs into the left ventricle, which then pumps the blood back to the body to allow proper cellular and organ function. Because the left ventricle needs to push oxygenated blood to the body, its muscular walls are thicker than those of the right ventricle.

When the walls of the left ventricle become fully enlarged and excessively thickened, the result is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The narrowing of the inner chamber of the left ventricle, due to this muscular thickening, prevents it from filling properly and decreases its efficiency. As a result, less oxygen-rich blood can reach the body to keep it functioning correctly and it causes the heart to beat faster than normal, increasing its need for oxygen and causing the death of heart muscle cells. This can also hamper heart function.

HCM is the most common heart disease in cats. As many as 1 in 7 will develop HCM at some point in their lives, and most show no symptoms.

Welcome Rose 🌹

Rose is a sweet little Devon Rex kitten who made her way into our rescue this week. Rose has some spinal abnormalities that cause her some toileting issues. Rose had xrays, blood work and urine testing done on Tuesday. She currently has a UTI which is already multi drug resistant to nearly all antibiotics. She has been put on a suitable antibiotic and is already feeling much happier.

Rose is full of beans and is your typical baby devon. She will be a lot of work to manage her heath issues and to get her to a point where we have her toileting concerns under control.

Currently Rose needs some tins of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Kitten food. If anyone would like to donate some food to Rose please get in contact with us. 🌹⚘️

Coco is very confident, outgoing and social. Poe is a little reserved at first, but once he gets to know you, he love's a belly rub. They are the best of friends, spending most of their waking hours playing with each other. Both kittens are very comfortable with their foster carers two male resident cats.

Age - 2 Years
Breed - Domestic Short Hair

Cat Friendly - Yes
Dog Friendly - Untested
Child Friendly - Untested. Would need older children who will go slow with her and let her settle.
Smooch Scale - Very smoochy and loving once she trusts her humans.
Location - Boondall QLD 4034
Adoption Fee - $200
Medical Notes - Bramble has been desexed and is ready to leave for her forever family.

Our gorgeous Bramble is still searching for her perfect forever family. Bramble and her brother Jester arrived into our care when they were 12 weeks of age after being caught living in someones backyard. Their mother has lived in a couples backyard as an non-socialised cat for quite a few years. We took in her other two sick kittens (Milton and Clive) when they were 5 weeks old. Bramble and her brother Jester remained with their mum until they were able to be caught and surrendered into our care.

Bramble spent her first 12 weeks of life living a bit too freely, but has settled perfectly into her loving foster home. Bramble loves to snuggle with her foster humans, and also adores snuggling with her furry foster kitties. She would prefer a home with another friendly cat to keep her company whilst her humans are at work. Bramble also LOVES water, and hopes her new home has a water fountain for her to watch and play with. She likes to have her back scratched and will wag her little tail in the air all excitedly whilst asking for some more. Bramble would suit a home with older children who let her slowly bond with them.

Please get in touch if you would like to meet with little Bramble. 🐾

Our gorgeous Jojo has been with her foster family for a year now and hasn't had a single meet and greet 😔. Jojo came into our care as a homeless "stray" with her single older kitten. She settled into care well, and is now relaxing in a loving foster home until she finds her adoptive family.

Jojo is very sweet natured, she is loving, and she seeks out her humans. She can be a bit of a busy body, and likes to get involved in the daily running of her home life. Jojo is currently living with other adult cats, and older children (which she really loves). Sleeping on the small humans bed is now her new favourite day time activity!

Please get in touch with us if you would like to arrange a meet and greet with our loving and playful Jojo. ❤️

Bob update! 🐈

It's about time we updated you all on our new rescue Bob. He joined us a few weeks ago from a Veterinary Clinic after he found himself homeless. We knew Bob was FIV positive when we took him into care, but he was also hiding a long list of other health issues that we have been trying to get under control.

Bob has horrible ear infections and pus has built up in both of his ear canals and caused his ear drums to rupture. He also has a head tilt, left sided facial paralysis (ear, eye, face, and mouth), and is ataxic (wobbly walk). He also had a mouth of awful teeth which were fractured and painful.

Bob's personality on the other hand is perfect! He is sweet, loving, and super smoochy. He spent a couple weeks doing his quarantine and recovering from major dental surgery, and has now been integrated into HandiHQ where he is settling in fantastically.

Bob will be in care for a while longer whilst we work with our vet team on how to best manage his health concerns. We are also unsure if his neurological changes are permanent, or if some signs will improve over time. For the mean time he is learning how to be a very much loved member of our rescue group. ❤️
