with the Darling Downs Heavy Horse Festival on THIS WEEKEND , our Welsh pony Dougall is having his first drive at a festival .. The Light Carriage classes commence at 0830 in RING 4 of the main arena .. Dougall will be driven by the wonderful Tamar Smith and prepped by Wendy Brown (the makeup , the fuss LOL) ... WILL BE A GREAT WEEKEND - come on out to Allora and check out the show !

I’ll start ‘Aberdeen on Shepherds’ ??

If only this old barn could talk! It could tell us its origins. It has spent the last 100 years in its present location having been moved there by the current owner’s grandfather in 1923.
It is believed to have been moved there from Hendon or Deuchar and there are thoughts that it could have previously been a hall. There is no record of a hall at Deuchar and the Hendon hall still stands at Mt. Marshall having been moved there in 1934.
I wonder if there is confusion with ‘Hendon Hall’ the property of Francis Kates. This was a 300 acre dairy farm on the edge of Hendon extending towards Allora. It was inherited by Frank Kates on the death of his father in 1903.
When Frank Kates died in 1918 the farm passed to his son Ernest Kates, and was possibly sold following Ernest’s death in 1923. In the 1920’s the farm was owned by Arthur Masters and ‘Emohruo’ the home of Arthur and Kitty Masters was the scene of many social gatherings. In 1934 the house and farm were sold to a man called Thompson.
The old barn’s time in its present location is limited. In about six weeks’ time a new shed is to be built on the site. It would be a shame to see all that history lost.
