October is Mental Health Awareness Month and I’ll be participating in One Foot Forward with the aim to walk 100km with the help of my furry friends. All income made from my pet sitting jobs during October will go towards funding for research with Black Dog Institute.
Pet sitting has been a job that has significantly helped me with my own mental health - animals and our pets support and care for us on a level that is beyond measure. In a world that is chaotic, that can feel lonely and isolating, and even heavy, the time spent with an animal can help to alleviate so much pain. In such a busy world, and busy life, pet sitting is a small pocket of space in this world for me that lets me reflect on my own needs.
From myself, to friends and family, coworkers, acquaintances and even strangers - we should all feel safe in this world to share our struggles and to have the support we need to be able to alleviate any heaviness we hold.
For those who are struggling: you are not alone, you are worth the space you occupy, the world deserves you and you deserve to feel like you belong here. There is help and support and I am personally always here to listen and chat 🩷
