Clifford Luu's path to baking has always been a little different. There were no apprenticeships in high-end restaurants or exclusive cooking schools in France. Instead, the project administrator used his flair for flavour, his passion for architecture, and his natural sense of wonder to go from casual hobby baker to one of Sydney's most exciting creators. Armed with a not-so-average kitchen toolki
t that includes a set square and a razor blade, Clifford's detailed sculptural cakes, colourful textural sweets, and prettily patterned sourdough crusts have gained him a devoted Instagram following of 200,000+ people (and climbing!). His innovative designs have led to collaborations with the likes of Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art, Nolinski Hotel in Paris, and brands such as KitchenAid, Oreos and Williams-Sonoma. Clifford believes that everyone can be part of the creative cake community. It's this inclusive philosophy that has seen him sharing his knowledge in workshops around Australia, Asia and New York, as well as launching a series of online cake-decorating courses, encouraging people to embrace that anything goes and all is possible. With spatula in hand and French bulldogs Howard and Edward by his side, Clifford Luu now welcomes you to take part in his journey and share in his knowledge. Kicking off the wedding season with this white and gold texture celebration cake for ELIZA + TOM.
Underneath the ivory buttercream revealed layers of red velvet cake with a milk chocolate whipped ganache and raspberry jam that was served during cocktail before the sit down reception.

I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to have my mum beside me through every adventure, whether it’s traveling to Bangkok after a tough time or simply sharing the joy of Maker’s Day working together. Her presence is a constant source of strength and comfort, guiding me through life’s ups and downs.

Greetings to all, both new and longtime followers! Taking a moment to wrap up this year and reflect on the past 12 months.
Opening a physical space presented immense challenges—physically, mentally, and financially. Yet, I’m grateful for the experience as it taught me invaluable skills in a short span.

Cliff Luu is a self-taught baker and cake decorator specialising in a colour-loaded, texture-driven, sculpturally-influenced decorating style.
He established ‘Cakes by Cliff’ in 2015, creating cakes for all occasions whilst working full time.
The demand for his effervescent cake designs led to the growth of his 220,000+ strong Instagram following and requests for him to pass on his knowledge in person via private and group workshops.
Since the birth of the business, he has travelled around Australia and overseas to New York, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to deliver cake decorating workshops.
Juggling full-time work over the last 4 years has proven to be a challenge with the demand for more workshops and international travel only increasing. Inspired to do more to contribute to the cake baking and decorating community despite an inability to reach all corners of the world, he created the ‘Cakes By Cliff’ Online course in 2018.
As of today, Cliff has been involved in collaborations with brands like KitchenAid, Williams-Sonoma, Oreos, Dermalogica and Nolinski Hotel (Paris).
He has also been featured in publications such as Buzzfeed, Vogue Bridal, Time Out Magazine and other specialist wedding and events publications.
